  1. Texas A&M vs Georgia is the game to make, but A&M stands to lose everything if they do. As it stands I have no problem putting 6-0 Ohio State in over an 8-1 A&M team whose only good win was against Florida and lost by four touchdowns to the team they'd probably be playing in the first round. Instead of manning up and demanding the best opponent this weekend they're fine taking the easy win vs Tennessee.
  2. Except he's staying. Rationality is hard.
  3. Right, but that's my point. Leaving it open to interpretation, which he very much did in the statement is just bad if he's staying. Just say he's staying.
  4. Either way CDC showed massive incompetence today. Either Herman is definitely coming back and he left it vague in his statement or he isn't safe and he released a statement that does nobody any good. It's stunningly bad.
  5. So either Tom Herman is coming back and CDC didn't explicitly state it in his statement. or CDC purposely released a vague statement about Tom Herman's future that does nothing positive for him, Herman or the program. Either way this seems like a pretty incompetent day for him. I continue to be unimpressed by Chris Del Conte.
  6. Texas is going to be three quarters into next year's season opener with Tom Herman as head coach and some of y'all will still think Urban Meyer will be coaching Texas in 2021.
  7. Some of y'all have seriously hit rock bottom if you think Gary Fucking Kubiak is an option worth considering for Texas.
  8. THE TEXAS LONGHORNS ARE THE MAUI INVITATIONAL OF ASHEVILLE NORTH CAROLINA CHAMPIONS
  9. Greg Brown is 0-9 from three in two and a half games. That's not his game. Someone needs to teach him that.
  10. Yeah I'm with you. Like I said, it's highly unlikely. I think he's the first call you make if Urban says no. He'd probably say no, but I'm just outlining why I think his system would do well in college.
  11. He's a HELL of a coach. I think he's prodigious when it comes to coaching offense. He excels at getting his playmakers the ball in space to make plays. He turned Matt Ryan into an MVP on a historically good Falcons offense.. He made a Super Bowl with Jimmy G. He has an injury decimated 49ers team hanging around in a tough division. I think what his system does well would translate to college because as I said it's about getting playmakers open and getting them the ball. I think it's the kind of thing that would appeal to high school talent and he clearly knows what it takes to be successful in the NFL. It's a moot point though. As mentioned above he doesn't appear to have any interest in recruiting and there's never been a sense he even has a little bit of an interest in coaching college ball. He's very likely an NFL lifer.
  12. Tom Herman bringing out the greatest hits today.
  13. During a promo read... Walton: I'm watching the game! Benetti: You are?
  14. We're already Bowl eligible since there won't be win requirements this year!
  15. I don't think Fleck is the guy for Texas because I don't think he has the mettle for the job. Mack Brown was the perfect man for the Texas job because the Texas job has to have a politician to succeed. The brilliance of Mack Brown is that when the cameras were on he was your best friend and he could charm the pants off anyone (particularly people who can keep the money flowing) but he had an absolutely nasty side towards anyone who slighted him and was masterful at keeping that out of the public eye. That's not ignoring Mack's faults by any means. I guess I'd like someone with Mack's temperament for the Texas job with Dabo Swinney's ability to build a coaching staff.
  16. That is totally fair, but let's ignore all of that for a second. He led to Minnesota to their first 11 win season in a century. He led Western Michigan to their first ten win season in school history. I think it's an easy argument to say those are both more impressive feats than what Herman did at Houston especially because Herman inherited the Houston roster. So why was PJ Fleck able to do what he did at those two places? Is it because he's an X's and O's guy or because he's a program building guy? I'm talking philosophical coaching styles here and not any one specific candidate. The next Texas coach needs to be dynamic in a lot of ways. I think the program builder/CEO type coach provided he puts the right staff in place is what Texas needs. I think Urban Meyer is a fantasy.
  17. This is what pisses me off the most: No, motherfucker, this isn't about you as a family. This is about you, Tom Herman, being too much of a chicken shit to let your best player go out and get two fucking yards to win a game when you had TWO opportunities to do it.
  18. I'll preface this by saying I have no idea I have no idea who the guy is, but Texas needs to find the next Dabo Swinney or, gulp, next Mack Brown. Obviously on the surface "hire the next Dabo Swinney" is a no shit statement, but my point is this: they need to find someone who is the polar opposite of Tom Herman. The genius of Dabo Swinney is that without ever admitting it he knows he's not some X's and O's savant. He's college football's megachurch pastor. He can sell the hell out of himself and his program but he also went out and hired the best staff he could and makes sure Clemson pays them a shit ton of money to stick around so they can lay the foundation and implement it on the field while he does all the other shit that matters off it. The next coach at Texas matters obviously, but it only matters as much as the staff as he surrounds himself with. The salary of the coach doesn't really matter. If CDC has any brains (which is debatable at this point) he's going to give the next coach a blank check to hire the best staff he can. Not saying I want PJ Fleck, but I think a guy with that kind of charisma with a great staff would be way better than having an arrogant dickhead who isn't as smart as he thinks and has no clue how to build a program like the current guy we have.
  19. Also, Texas' average recruiting class ranking from 2007-2016 was 7.6 and that included the dip when Mack got fired and Charlie got hired and had to cobble together a class. Those ten recruiting classes produced 27 draft picks with only 4 coming in the first two rounds. The biggest problem at Texas is player development. It has been for a decade. If they don't get a coach that can turn good-to-great recruiting classes into NFL Draft players it doesn't matter how well Texas recruits.
  20. So I had to go with a stock photo because I didn't know we were supposed to have pint glasses in our photos... There's a brewery in Massachusetts called Treehouse that has a cult-like following among my co-workers. They'll drive an hour to wait in insanely long lines (can take hours in the pre-Rona times) to get cases of the beer because you can only get it at the brewery. They don't sell it in stores or in bars. My buddy was coming back from Boston and asked if I wanted him to pick up a case so I'm working my way through it. They're known for their IPA's but I opted for the lighter options and their Kolsch called Outlier is banging. The label are is pretty great too. I think it's a beer that would make a killing in Austin with the burnt orange and white color scheme.
  21. West Brom up. Brentford, Fulham, Cardiff and Swansea make the Promotion Playoff. Nottingham Forest loses, capping off a five game winless streak, that cost them a spot in the playoff. Hull, Wigan and Charlton Athletic going down. Wigan gets relegated with positive goal differential which probably has never happened. Barnsley's late winner vs Brentford kept them up. The scene was pretty entertaining.
