There's a zero percent chance Freeman sits. There's a slightly higher, but not very high, chance Markakis sits.

Martin out, Julio in and starting a game four (if we get there) so to recap: To win the series the Braves are going to have to: 1) beat the best pitcher in the National League since the all-star break or 2) Win a Julio Teheran start on the road. It's over and done.

Acuna was a stud. Freddie's last two months were an anomaly, Donaldson was healthy, Ozzie was more consistent, Mac and Markakis provided leadership. The talent from Soroka and Fried was apparent. They'd run through a wall for Snit. The most fun thing is just about everyone else had big moments even if they were bad for long stretches. Riley's first couple of weeks helped jump start the team in June. Ortega's grand slam against the Dodgers was massive. Culberson had some big hits early and had that game saving throw in July. Hechavarria provided some good defense and some hits. Matt Joyce has been consistently good. Julio and Keuchel had good stretches. Jackson and Swarzak had a couple of stretches where they kept the bullpen afloat until AA brought in the reinforcements. They're just a fun team to root for. The big question mark and most fascinating thing to watch in the playoffs is going to be the starting rotation in the playoffs. Soroka has earned the game one start, but he has no playoff experience. They didn't sign Keuchel to not pitch him in October particularly given his experience. Folty has been great since he came back. I don't think Snit would bench Julio and Fried is a major wild card. Soroka, Folty and Fried have the best stuff and in October I think that matters, but I think Fried is the long reliever/rescue guy. I hope Folty's final stretch has moved him into the game 3 start ahead of Teheran, but Snit is loyal to a fault.

bitch move by Dave Martinez to have the umpires check if it was a strike or not while Culberson was lying in a pool of his own blood, but he got fucked by karma leaving Rodney in after that and the Braves blowing the doors off them. The division is basically over.

Hey, a total garbage goal still counts.

USMNT 2019
Ream is from St. Louis so I'm fine with him getting to start in his home town. Robinson has been having a great season for Atlanta which doesn't mean it's going to translate to the National Team by any means, but the guy has been one of the best, if not the best, CB's in MLS this year. If playing at a really high level in MLS doesn't get you a legitimate look with the national team, particularly when they don't have a ton of quality depth at that position right, what's even the point?

I don't understand why Long started ahead of Miles Robinson. Long has played 12 games for the USMNT. Berhalter has an idea what he brings to the table. Why bring Robinson if you aren't going to give him a start?

Seven new starters. I'm presuming CP, McKennie and others went back to their clubs. I heard about departures but haven't been super locked in.

So, our defense is garbage
It's simple to me. Orlando has a month to get the defense ready for OU. If it's another disaster like this week was, you move on. Herman won't do that because he's too arrogant to admit his guy isn't doing his job right, but it's three straight years our defense has been woefully unprepared to play a power 5 non-conference opponent. LSU is a lot more talented than Maryland, but the point remains. Our defense looked lost. Joe Burrow is getting a lot of praise, but the defense didn't challenge him at all. If they're going to play marquee non-conference opponents every year the defense has to be prepared to play them. In Herman's tenure they've yet to be ready for a power 5 opponent in September.

Big series starts tonight and three of the four pitching matchups are tasty: Fried vs Strasburg (tonight) Keuchel vs Corbin (tomorrow) Soroka vs Scherzer (Sunday) A split is a good result. Win 3 of 4 or sweep and the division is all but over. Fried gets two starts vs the Nats in the next two weeks. I would like to see him pitch well and put pressure on Snit to have him start over Teheran in the playoffs (assuming Soroka and Keuchel are 1 and 2). Snit is ultra conservative so I'd expect Teheran to get a playoff start and Fried be the insurance policy should any starter get shelled, but I don't love the idea of Teheran starting in October.

2019 US Open tennis
What a fascinating match. The humidity got to Monfils and he looked like he'd be done in four sets, but they closed the roof for rain and that helped him. Berrettini had major lemon booty serving for the match in the fifth and gagged it away but rallied in the tiebreak. Nadal is the only player left in the men's draw who can keep a player born in the 1990s from winning a grand slam for the first time.

Berrettini has yet to show he can be competitive on Monfils serve which is going to make winning difficult. He won 5 points on Monfils serve in the first set.

Roger seems fine in the second set. Just feeling charitable in these first sets.- 2019 US Open tennis
He's undoubtedly a lunatic. I would argue that while the yelling at fans and umpires is unseemly, I think ultimately it's mostly harmless. Sure the fan or the umpire may feel shitty in the short term, but nobody is going to be siding with the rantings of a crazy person as opposed to, say, Serena when she berates a chair umpire during the entirety of the US Open Final. The one time Kyrgios undoubtedly crossed the line was with the "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend" thing with Wawrinka. He took a private matter between consenting adults and made it very public during a match. It wasn't fair to de-facto slut shame Donna Vekic like that and it wasn't fair to do that to Kokkinakis, someone who was supposedly his friend. Otherwise though, I just think he's so absurd it's hard to be offended. I mean, the man called a chair umpire a "potato with arms and legs" and I'm sorry, but that's HILARIOUS.- MLS 2019 Thread
Good news: MLS Cup to air on network television. Very bad: MLS Cup to begin during the NFL 1pm game "witching hour" and continue through the beginning of a nationally televised Rams-Steelers game. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/08/28/2019-mls-cup-air-live-abc-and-univision - Amazing Soccer Goals, Saves and Blunders
