Otamendi should be off for his second yellow, but because the ref just didn't give him one for a clear yellow card foul he's still on. Atrocious officiating tonight.
nope, same number of teams.
edit: If Cameroon wins tomorrow 13 of the 16 teams that made the knockout stage four years ago will make it this year.
I also think the perception is skewed because of the US. Four years ago the pots were the seeds, CAF/CONCACAF/OFC, UEFA and AFC/CONMEBOL. The United States drew the toughest possible group (Sweden, Australia, Nigeria). This year they went to the traditional FIFA rankings seeding the way the men's World Cup does and the US got the worst team from pot 3 (somehow Thailand wasn't in pot 4)
As a result the US beat up on two of the worst teams in the tournament to start the WWC this year. Four years ago the US didn't look all that convincing until the semifinals.
I'm glad Arriola scored. When he played for the U20s he left everything on the field and was devastated when they lost. He really cared about wearing the shirt and I want to see him succeed with the senior USMNT even if he's been bad up til now.
Even by the lax standards of CONCACAF Guyana shouldn't even be in this tournament. The League of Nations qualifying was 34 teams playing 4 games with the top 10 qualifying for the Gold Cup. Barbados used an ineligible player turning a 2-2 draw into a 3-0 Guyana win giving them nine points. Among the all time CONCACAF-y moments, that's up there.
Nicaragua kicks three players off the team for hiring escorts following a 4-0 loss to Costa Rica.

I thought it should've stayed a yellow, but I guess if you hit a player above the neck it's a red card. He definitely caught him with the arm, but it wasn't intentional and he didn't swing his arm.
