USMNT 2019
Here are the FIFA rankings at the time of the Gold Cup and the worst team they played in that tournament along with the results. I cannot emphasize enough how bad Guyana is. 2017 USA 35, Nicaragua 105 USA 3-0 win 2015 USA 27, Cuba 107 USA 6-0 win 2013 USA 22, Belize 130 USA 6-1 win

Copa America 2019
Didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one up because the tournament gets underway tomorrow night. It should be fun. Brazil is hosting so there will certainly be a lot of anxiety there for the first tournament on home soil since the 2014 World Cup. Assuming they win their group, their semifinal game would be in the same stadium Germany whipped them in. Messi is back for Argentina trying once again to win a trophy with the Argentine senior team. They lost the last two finals to Chile in PKs. Uruguay, Colombia and Chile look to play the spoilers to the two more publicized teams. Group A - Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru Group B - Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Qatar (LMAOOOOOOOOOO) Group C - Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile, Japan Brazil opens the tournament with Bolivia tomorrow night at 7:30. We get an Argentina-Colombia banger out of the gates on Saturday. The tournament is on ESPN+. Should be fun.

USMNT 2019
So the USWNT is 1st in the FIFA rankings and Thailand is 34th. The USMNT is 24th which is completely laughable and Guayana is 175th in the FIFA rankings and shouldn't even be in the Gold Cup. I would put the US somewhere in the 70s right now between Honduras and Canada among CONCACAF teams so they're still probably 100 spots better than Guayana and I still wonder how many full games they'd have to play to score 13 goals against them.

Head into the Phillies series with a 1.5 game lead. Teheran has gone eight straight starts with one ER allowed or fewer but hasn't gone more than six innings in any of them. I have nicknamed him "Seis Bueno"

Tons of credit for to Australia for the comeback. That goal before halftime changed the momentum

Offside call is negated because the Brazilian player deliberately played the ball and headed it into her own net. That is WILD.

Massive fuck up from the Brazilian keeper as a cross into the box gets by her and in and it's tied. This has been the most fun game of the tournament.

Apparently that was the first group stage goal Brazil has allowed since 2003.

Australia was a dark horse in the tournament and has sucked in the tournament. They can still get in to the knockout stage as a third place team, but they'd play France or Germany in the R16. Big time disappointment.

I was just begging ANYONE to shoot first time. Every player would settle the ball and give the defender a chance to close. The PK France got was dicey.

2019 Women's World Cup - Do It Back to Back
Spain has controlled possession in this game, but their finishing is shit. I haven't seen much to think they're going to be a huge problem for the US unless they can play keep away. Germany doesn't look overly impressive without Marozsan so if she's out long term that could make that half of the KO bracket fun.

Lille escaped relegation two years ago and then finished second in Ligue 1 this past season.Their top two scorers are wingers, but Nicolas Pepe has been linked to a couple of different big places this summer which would hopefully open up consistent playing time for Tim.

2019 Women's World Cup - Do It Back to Back
If Spain beats Germany in the next game up the US' path to the Final is probably Germany (2nd in FIFA rankings), France (4th) and England (3rd)

Yeah the only thing even remotely offensive about yesterday was the referee adding second half stoppage time. The rest is just meaningless noise.

Thailand is going to have to literally murder an American to have a penalty called. First one was. Second one definitely was.

USMNT 2019
I was thinking about this today, with the current crop of utterly shitty MLS players on the USMNT roster Klinsmann was kind of a genius for scouring the globe to find players with US heritage to join the roster, but also his biggest failure was not demanding better youth development at the MLS level. It was putting a band-aid on a hatchet wound. I wouldn't expect his predecessors to put a premium on youth development at the domestic league level because they were MLS guys, but a guy who came from Europe you'd think would understand the necessity for youth development in domestic leagues

Winkler has minor league options so he's probably gone for either Keuchel or Minter when he comes back. The other spot will be between outrighting Blevins or faking an injury to Gausman to try and let him figure things out in the minors on a "rehab" stint. Hopefully for Minter it's just that the car accident he injured himself in this spring cut short his spring training and they brought him back too soon to start the season. Since being optioned to Triple A he's been scoreless in 8 of 9 appearances and only walked two guys. He's only had three clean appearances which is very much the AJ Minter experience so I'm not expecting him to be a lights out closer, but hopefully he can come back as a productive member of the bullpen. If Soroka's productivity doesn't fall off a cliff you have Soroka and Keuchel 1-2. Teheran has mastered the art of pitching ugly not allowing more than one ER in his last seven starts. Fried has his ups and downs. Who the hell knows what to expect from Folty. As far as the bullpen goes, Newk, Touki, Minter and Jackson provide a core and AA said they're likely going to add a bullpen arm closer to the trade deadline. As for getting out of the NLDS with this staff, well if we win the division we're going to avoid the Dodgers which is nice.
