2024 Weight Loss/Exercise Thread
What do you think about the use of Ozempic for people who are only moderately over weight? I’m hearing about some women I know that I don’t really consider having a weight problem using Ozempic. I thought it was for people who are more in the obese range. You seem to be the exception, which is good, but I read somewhere that most people gain the weight back after stopping Ozempic.

The movie you just watched
Ryan’s Daughter. A David Lean film. He also directed Bridge on the River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia, and Doctor Zhivago, among others. An interesting movie with pretty high highs and definitely some lows. Worth watching.

Tenants in Common Accounts in Probate
There may be a temporary freezing if, and when, the bank finds out about the death. If I understand your situation, half of the TIC account becomes the property of the deceased spouse's estate upon death and then subject to probate. Half of the account would be owned by the other TIC. There could be a temporary freezing of the account until the separation gets worked out and the bank may want to see letters testamentary establishing the executor's authority and that could take several weeks depending on the probate court. And the bank/brokerage firm might have their own procedures in place and I can tell you that Merrill Lynch (BofA) will have a NYC-based attorney involved and they don't know shit about Texas law--assuming Texas law applies. All of that said, if the surviving spouse/TIC is the sole heir under a will, or applicable law, it may be easy to get the bank/brokerage firm to act quickly. If the deceased spouse has surviving children by a previous marriage or if there are other testamentary trusts involved, it will complicate matters.

Texas BBQ
The brisket is not good at Goode Co. if it’s your only option, make a meal out of the sausage, maybe the ribs, and load up on the dirty rice and jalapeño bread. I don’t recall eating a vegetable at Goode Co BBQ. Different thread, but I like the Goode Co. cantina on the Katy Frwy near Campbell.

Trivial Things That Make You Surly
People that can’t even navigate an HEB parking lot. They don’t know how to exit the property, causing a backup, and then everyone behind them blocks the lanes. So it’s gridlock (no one can enter from the street or turn down a blocked lane) and the people are too stupid to figure it out.

Super Bowl LVII - Las Vegas
This. My 29 yo daughter called me a few months ago and asked which channel the Chiefs were on. She’s never given a rat’s ass about the NFL or football. She’s not alone.

Bourbon
I will try it and report back. Thanks for the tip. I like the OF 1920 and 1910. The price point of the 1920 and 1910 is about as high as I go unless something just falls into my lap. There’s just too much good stuff that I like that is readily available.

Bourbon
Damn. Yesterday I bought another 1.75 of one of my daily drinkers—Evan Williams BIB 100 proof. $27 at Spec's and always available. I don’t mean to knock people that seek out high end booze, but I’m glad I don’t have to spend $$$ for something I enjoy. I guess I’m easily satisfied.

YESSS, FINALLY!!! - Masters of the Air - The 8th Air Force, Spielberg, Hanks, Goetzman (Crew behind Band of Brothers, Pacific)
Yep. The terror bombing by both sides was covered extensively in Manchester’s Last Lion biography of Churchill. It’s suggested that early in the Blitz Hitler was against indiscriminate bombing of English cities (he knew the Brits could return the favor) and some of the early attacks were against unintended targets. The Brits retaliated and then the gloves came off.

It could be an entire new thread, but it shows just how important it was for France and Great Britain to never let Germany invade the Low Countries and then France. Those extra few hundred miles mattered in a number of ways—especially when the V1 and V2’s came along. They killed a lot of civilians. The colossal failures of France and Great Britain during the mid 30’s came home to roost—again. They shouldn’t have ignored or rejected my avatar’s warnings. Thank goodness there was the channel.

It’s already apparent how dangerous the daytime missions were, but in the coming episodes I’m guessing it will be even worse. Until we were able to deploy long range fighter escorts, some missions in 1943 lost 1/4 of the B17s. I find a lot of conflicting data online and one site said that without fighter escorts it was virtually impossible for one crew to survive the allotted 25 missions. I like how they addressed early on the two philosophies of the RAF and the US on night vs daytime bombing.

And, of course, LeMay, has his cigar. Please don’t make a CR comment about LeMay . . .

Israel vs everyone war thread
On a related note, I’ve been enjoying Golda on one of the cable networks. It’s about the Yom Kippur war. She was awesome. Russia (still causing trouble. . .) added a different dynamic in the early 70’s, which explains Israel’s reluctance to kick ass and take names. At least peace eventually was made with one Arab nation.

Yep, most of them smoked. My parents were Korean War era and they and their friends all smoked. My mother didn’t quit until the late 60’s when it was becoming widely accepted that it was terrible for you.

Chicken Fried Steak
The 71 bypass around Columbus was finished my sophomore year at UT so after that I would never detour through old 71 and stop at Schobel’s. Before the bypass I hit it quite often.

Getting old sucks
On getting shingles if you’ve never had CP, it’s possible to get it from someone who has shingles if you come in contact with their open rash. It’s probably a long shot, but it can happen.

Getting old sucks
How old are you? I got chicken pox when I was very young like most people in their late 50’s and 60’s. I don’t remember getting CP. Until the vaccine came out, I think damn near all children got CP. My daughters got it very early and I’m sure they don’t remember it. They are 32 and 29.

That’s right. Neither were pressurized. That’s what I was trying to say.

It didn’t stop Churchill. He flew in a B-24 (also not pressurized like the B-17) during the war and had his oxygen mask modified so that he could smoke his cigars during his long flights.

Of course. Not saying it didn’t happen or that it’s poor writing. Just odd that it ended up that way.

Of course. I heard that. Literally. Still wild that they have similar nicknames.
