NBA Playoffs 2023
Looked like Booker just got impatient. KD looked like he wanted to set a screen with about ten seconds left to get either him or Booker a three attempt. Booker just rushed it

By RAPTOR Lavine is 96th and Herro is 136th. So, yes, in a vacuum most metrics agree that Lavine is a better player. But, no, most metrics do not paint Lavine as elite, and, no, the evaluation is not in a vacuum. Herro represents better value currently and better medium term potential. Lavine is what he is. Herro is still coming along.

2023 Houston Rockets Offseason Thread - Time to Start Thinking About Winning Again
Weird that people are down on Jabari Smith. He was easily top 5-8 of the rookie class and is still very young. Potential top 20-25 player in the league if development matches potential over the next 3-5 years. I understand the disappointment in Green but feel like he was hamstrung by the coaching and situation. Still a natural elite scorer who could be a solid contributor on a deep playoff team. Rockets are not entirely short of talent anymore. It's just all young and needs 2-3 years together.

I'm surprised by that. I would definitely take Herro over Lavine with their current contracts. Their per 100 possessions stats suggest they're basically the same player (total career and just this year) with Herro being 4 years younger and without the injury history. Lavine gets the edge in TS%, PER, and BPM primarily (I think) b/c Herro takes (and misses) a bunch of bad 2s. If you can get Herro to just make better decisions he's the better value, easily. I think that is a much more likely development over the next four years than Lavine avoiding decline/further injury.

^ berth Chet probably not going to be ready at the start of the season, right? A big guy with that foot injury needs to not be rushed back.

28% which was surprisingly high to me. I don't think the questions were all that thoughtfully crafted if the intent was to neutrally present the choice.

It's criminal that Ant has to play for that bullshit team. He might be the best overall young player in the league right now.

What do you mean? The Hawks season has been a massive disappointment but his individual play has been on par with what one would expect. His FT% and FG% are career bests. He's taking more 3s than ever and hitting a percentage higher than his career average. So he didn't morph into a superstar, but his play is hardly worthy of derision.

I know it's not the offseason yet but there's already a lot of draft talk going on so I thought I'd share this site that offers interesting analysis of teams' draft success: https://braydengerrard.shinyapps.io/Draft_Scores/

I get that, but there were glimpses of potential and he was young. Dumping him netted nothing and keeping him around on the G-league team to manage his development would have been minimal opportunity cost. In isolation his story is totally innocuous, but in the context of the Spurs team development it's part of a trend of poor eval/roster management. From 2015 to 2021 the Spurs had seven first round picks. In 2022 only two of those picks remained on the roster. And for the players like Dejounte and Derrick White who were actually great evals and development stories for draft position the ROI was not great in the end.

Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
I get the joke but also, do people really get married not having discussed financial expectations? My wife and I opened a joint account when we got engaged and contributed to it every month until the wedding. We were poor, so that was only a few hundred bucks here and there, but it set the tone and forced us both to demonstrate to the other that we could be disciplined financially. If that account balance started dipping instead of growing that wedding would have been off.

Not sure if anyone has retained any interest, but I didn't know Luka Samanic was back in the league. He just had a nice game against the Nuggets. Still think it's weird how quickly the Spurs cast him off.

Wives and the Stupid Shit They Say/Do
I'm a firm believer in the idea that couples can make any financial arrangement work for their relationship but separate accounts is like anal sex to me. If other people are into it, cool, but I just can't understand the appeal at all. I don't have any money. We have all the money. Marrying a woman who wasn't stupid about money was a priority.

I can't imagine taking AD over Tatum right now but sure, the rest I'd agree is debatable. If I can only pick one to try and win a 7 game series with, me personally, I'm picking Bron over AD 10 times out of 10. I thought Nephew was the biggest question mark on my list, actually.

Is AD a top 10 player even when healthy right now? I'd probably have him on the outside of Giannis, Embiid, Jokic, KD, Tatum, Steph, Luka, Bron, Kawhi, Ja.

You're right that it's close but I think you're overestimating the defense gap. When he's engaged embiid is very good defensively even on smaller perimeter guys. Not saying they are equal but I think the gap on defense is smaller than the gap on offense, which favors Joel.
