  1. At IUP he went from 12-2 to 9-2 to 6-5 in one stretch. He went 8-4 then 6-5 at Elon. He's obviously a great coach but the hype outpaces the reality of his full record. I remember when Matt Rhule was the hottest name in coaching and I was mocked for questioning his actual ability. I think Cignetti is significantly better but this deification off a relatively short run of success isn't new.
  2. Sources tell them. My source was reading, they should try it. Literally exactly what everyone is doing with Cignetti.
  3. While your goal is logical, this is terribad business analysis. You can't just use payroll as a percentage of revenue, you would have to use revenue minus the standard overhead (non-player payroll) costs of running the MLB franchise. I don't have those numbers but your analysis here is really weak. As an example: Dodgers have 752 in revenue against 549 in payroll, Astros have 494/239. Your analysis says the dodgers spend 73% of revenue on payroll and the Astros only spend 49%. So it makes it look like the Astros don't spend as much as the Dodgers as the Dodgers spend 50% more as a percentage of revenue. But let's say that running an MLB franchise costs 150 in unavoidable costs (non-player payroll, facilities, minors franchise fees, minors facilities, travel costs, scouting, etc.). Immediately the Dodgers spend 549 in payroll against 602 while the Astros spend 239 against 344. That already, on its own, makes the numbers 91% versus 69% so the Dodgers "care" 31% more. And this doesn't even get into the actual revenue hidden from the books that each team has. The Dodgers can and do spend a shitload more than the Astros. That's all you can say. I don't particularly mind and I'm not going to cry about it, but acting like the Dodgers' massive lead in revenue isn't the main reason they pay players more is dumb.
  4. Vince Young turned Billy Pittman into an elite deep threat. Billy Pittman ran a 4.8 40.
  5. I'll still follow but it's a bit weird now that you can assume at least roughly 40% of a recruiting class won't be in Austin for a third season. The interesting part will be class makeup and the split between absolute studs and developmental takes.
  6. Man I wish this is the way things were just a little while back. If this had started in 2010 or so it would have been perfect as a Texas fan. 2000s great teams unaffected. Manziel would have left College Station as soon as possible. A&M would have paid Tate Martell anything to be the next Manziel. Although I guess the hilarious Jimbo plaque and contract probably wouldn't have happened. But as a thought exercise, how much should we have offered VY for 2006 at current market prices? 80% of our rev share for starters?
  7. It clearly is beyond some posters' grasps that an offhand comment made years ago under a different reality isn't necessarily an ironclad rule that the person has to live their life by until they die.
  8. The last page or so is exactly why I never think to myself "this thread can't get any worse."
  9. I thought I read somewhere that it's also legal to wait 48 work day hours. So theoretically schools could wait to enter players until the end of the day next Wednesday if they apply at the last minute today (Monday being a holiday for lots of schools). Or is that not accurate?
  10. I mean the olds have called our white uniforms the Storm Troopers for decades.
  11. Right, and it seems like some members of the staff were way too confident in Plan A but in reality the ability to pivot in the annual free agency era will likely be far more important long-term than making Plan A.
  12. No way what we've done was the plan all along but credit for pivoting fairly well so far.
  13. You don't have to believe in the Earth and stars. You can touch one and see the other.
  14. Read the thread, man! I can't believe you missed that one post 70 pages ago! / @SydneyCarton
  15. So he's a pretty smart young man, bodes well for development potential. Probably was misled living in Cypress by the heavy Aggie contingent around here. We Longhorns aren't loud enough, plus he came from Weigman's school so there was recent history.
  16. I think he was actually mentioned as someone Texas was looking at in the transfer thread but it didn't get much traction. Welcome to the young man.
  17. Oh FFS it was a Sooner
  18. The college football transition to the internet age was awesome. There was a recruit whose bio in the annual Athlon season preview magazine mentioned that he was in the Huckleberry Top 75 which was just a terribly formatted page I had on Hornfans that was a weighted composite of top Texas recruit lists. Obviously I should sue 247 for IP infringement.
  19. Tribute band for a Seattle based singer that died. Vedder happened to be around to audition for what would become Pearl Jam. Let's close this topic now.
  20. Plenty? Name them. I seriously doubt there are very many teams that right now have 7 "proven" OL who would satisfy Surly locked up for 2026.
  21. Almost zero chance there aren't additional depth pieces added for summer sessions to get all of fall practice in, especially this year as players realize there aren't great options for all of them.
  22. You sound like the kind of guy who leaves the bar at 10pm with the 2am bargain. Why the fuck would we be settling for bargains already when there are still thousands of players in the portal and 3 days for them to apply to enter?
