  1. So when is this freeze supposed to hit Austin? Just ran a few errands and roads are fine.
  2. We don’t apologize for our kinks around here.
  3. Fake geography!
  4. What starts here whitewashes the world.
  5. All I’m saying is that I would’ve had a better completion percentage against Ohio State than Arch.
  6. Fair, but replace Paul Dano and There Will Be Blood with Quentin Tarantino and every one of his movies in which he self-indulgently gave himself an acting role, and you get why Tarantino should shut his pie hole.
  7. Try this one: Link: Trump fucked kids
  8. Man, really shitty weather for all those IOL transfer candidates Texas is hosting this weekend.
  9. Look, people aren't shaking Donald's ears every day, are they?
  10. Thanks for the preview, Biff. Looking forward to it in March.
  11. Have you interacted much with that generation?
  12. Same. I've already got the generator running in my living room. I'm no dummy.
  13. Maybe we can get a two-for-one deal on the dark alley pipe beating.
  14. I think this is mostly true, though my law school days were quite a while ago (1996-1999), and the law school and legal markets have changed significantly. When I was at UT Law, the student body had a fair amount of undergrads from the Ivies, a lot from UT, some aggy, a sprinkling of other high-ranking out-of-state public universities, and a sizeable amount from diverse smaller private and public schools from all over that would have been considered second or third tier based on prevailing rankings at the time. I think if your undergrad university doesn't have "top tier" prestige, then you might need something more than high percentile LSAT and GPA, like a position in student leadership or significant work experience. That's probably especially true today with UT Law given that, like the school's undergrad, admissions is so much more competitive. Now, if your kid thinks they want to go the biglaw route, then I think the prestige of your law school means a ton more. Again, my biglaw days were a long time ago (1999-2003 at one of the Texas-based big firms). But when I was in that environment, it seemed like if you went to an Ivy League, you got a job offer as long as you didn't drool all over yourself, and apart from that, those firms hired heavily from UT Law, some superstars here and there from SMU/Baylor/UH, and outside of that, you probably needed near top of your class + judicial clerkship. It didn't take me long to learn that your law school pedigree doesn't mean much in real life practice, at least in the trial lawyer ranks. So after doing this for 25+ years, I've learned to put very little stock in where a lawyer on the other side of the docket went to law school. But my perception is that pedigree is still very important for biglaw job opportunities. Maybe a Surly lawyer younger than me has a different take.
  15. I can't say Nehls has really been on my radar since most of these MAGA dipshits in Congress have started blending together. But he's quickly climbing the official South Austin rankings of elected officials who need to be taken to a dark alley for a pipe beating.
  16. They have chicken fajitas. I hear great things.
  17. Man, sorry to read all that, especially for your daughter. Back in 2024, a few months during our first year of marriage, my wife went through various levels of shit in a relatively short period of time that felt like a Book of Job/Why Can’t I Get A Break period of time for her. She’s/we’re better now, but still dealing with some stuff. All I can say is that we just get through it. Not much other choice. I’ll also say that you (among others) seem, I dunno, “impenetrable” elsewhere on this site. There are threads here and there, like this one, where you see a lot more humanity from the anonymous posters who, like me, often just go for a cheap laugh. It’s nice to see that side of folks on this community, even if it’s during a rough patch. And a lot of faceless avatars have been a big part of some major healing for me at the worst time of my life. Even if I’m not feeling down about anything, checking in on this thread occasionally and reading about the support and grace freely given by everyone is a comfort.
  18. Glad I updated my will.
  19. Dante Moore looked like twice baked ass the last two times the country saw him play.
