  1. I heard UT received over 100,00 applications. California's response... uhomes.com Blogs: Student Guides on Living, Travel, Lifestyle12 Most Applied to Colleges in the USThe most applied to colleges are University of California, New York University, Northeastern University, Cornell University, Boston University.
  2. Its a lot cheaper through Charlotte. That said, Asheville and the western part of that state is so nice.
  3. Completely legit reason. I'm a procrastinator. Wait, you mean Asheville isn't major? At least WCU is about equidistant from ATL, CLT and Knoxville so there are options not necessarily close options other than not affordable Asheville. Then again, what we save in tuition for an out-of-state school pays for an assload of flights.
  4. Why? I mean, I get it but I am curious about your reasons? Apparently if you want any kind of grants, loans, etc you have to do it. And I do wonder... what if you do it the first year but like @jimmyjazz not bother after the first year?
  5. My son has communicated with one of his future professors multiple times... been super responsive. I was like, WTF... they are helping you before you even get there? Amazing.
  6. I prefer Orange County Anyway, back to women's sports, rowing absolutely dominates. Year-by-Year Highlights 2025: Won inaugural SEC Championship; placed 3rd at NCAA Championships (8th consecutive top-4 NCAA finish). 2024: NCAA National Champions. 2023: Big 12 Champions; 4th at NCAA Championships. 2022: NCAA National Champions. 2021: Big 12 Champions; NCAA National Champions. 2020: Big 12 Championship canceled due to COVID-19. 2019: Big 12 Champions; 2nd at NCAA Championships. 2018: Big 12 Champions; 3rd at NCAA Championships.
  7. GASP those monsters! The programs will open at schools with the most economically disadvantaged students in the Austin, Manor and Del Valle school districts. More than 2,000 pre-K and elementary school students are expected to participate. The county is working on getting after school programs to Pflugerville ISD, too, according to county documents. “This is really a huge deal for Del Valle ISD,” Del Valle Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez said. “90% of our students in our school district are considered coming from poverty.”
  8. Neighbor told me her daughter got into UT, Tulane, Yale and Boston College. Waiting for some other ones... that Yale one... oofff... no merit scholarship, just need based. Estimated cost of attendance is $90K !!!
  9. Just completed the FAFSA form. As long as you have your numbers it's pretty damn easy.
  10. Interesting. Western will give you a little bit of extra $ if you fill it out but when I say little, its little (its better than zero)
  11. OK... thanks for walking me off the ledge. Just need some basic financial information to calculate the net worth and then let the system pull our tax data. I'm assuming you don't have to be accurate to the penny on net worth... not trying to fudge anything but just want to provide a good enough estimate because I'll get denied anything anyway.
  12. a) Go to Bay St. Louis b) Drive the speed limit
  13. Well... uh... We could all aspire to be a gif one day
  14. I LOVE THIS
  15. Not sure about that because I've seen plenty of Italians order an Aperol spritz but maybe the vibe is different in Venice (which does tend to lean harder towards more tourists vs other cities). Another option is a Hugo Spritz (pronounced Ugo) or Campari which, honestly, is what I prefer. Although let's be real, I prefer a Negroni. I agree an Aperol Spritz is too tame. Nailed down our itinerary for the summer 4 nights in Rome in Testaccio (had a chance to stay with family but they are too far in the suburbs) 7 nights in Sirolo (Le Marche) 2 nights in Capua (visit the area and Reggio di Caserta... maybe maybe if I can squeeze it in go to Herculaneum) 1 night back in Rome, probably with family For those interested in Caserta, here is an article on the palace. If you want to nerd out, it was used in Star Wars I and II which is why my son requested we visit. The palace alone has 1,200 rooms, covers a total surface area of 60 acres and is more than three times bigger than Versailles. Include all the grounds—the sculpture park, the English Garden, the experimental silk factory, the colossal aqueduct—and the complex is roughly the size of Monaco.Frederic MagazineTour Italy's Best-Kept-Secret: A Palace That Rivals Versa...1,200 rooms. 60 acres. Three times the size of Versailles. All things considered, the Palace of Caserta is roughly the size of Monaco.
  16. ( insert laugh cry gif here )
  17. Well that's kind of it. We do fine but when I say fine I mean fine enough to not really qualify for anything so it feels like a lot of work to get nothing. I mean I guess we could use it for loans in the future but it won't apply to us this year.
  18. My son was interested in Oregon but I was like, "yeah, I ain't paying that" We head back to Western Carolina in a few weeks for him to audition for the music school. I think he wants to go there either way. I'm all for it - really a good fit for him and a beautiful campus. Just a good vibe with that school. For what he wants to do, he doesn't have to go to some prestigious school - just get good instruction and good professors and he'll get what he needs with the college experience.
  19. So FAFSA seems like a major pain in the ass to fill out. Is it just me? Any tips?
  20. Yeah and when people try to refer to other places like "its the Venice of Northern Europe" like Bruges or I had someone tell me about the Venice of the Canary Islands (we were visiting Puerto de Mogan) there's nothing remotely close. It is completely unique and fascinating and so much more interesting and complex that the main areas seen by tourists.
  21. My dad told me a story about taking us to Venice when I was a kid and we got lost... this was waaaay before Google, Intertubes or anything... just pure confusion with no idea how to get back out of that particular part of Venice. Good times. Google maps has us spoiled.
