PSA - ABIA And TSA Lines
Unrelated but does anyone know if they are going to be bringing back valet parking? We used it in March of 21 but last time we flew it was blocked off and deserted. They still have a sign for it as you drive in to the short term parking. It was obviously very convenient and not that much more expensive than other options for a weekend trip.

Cheese Enchiladas
I worked at a small fast food chain in the boondocks of Oklahoma the summer after my 17th birthday. One of my jobs before getting moved up to drive thru cashier was making the refried beans. We would actually use fresh beans, sort them, boil them in a pressure cooker, drain them, dump the cooked beans into a large plastic tub and then refrigerate them overnight. Next morning, we'd dump them in large cast iron pots with a shit-ton of lard and mash that shit up good. They were absolutely delcious served in a paper cup with a little taco meat, shredded processed cheese and knock off Taco Bell hot sauce. It was 1980, dry and hot as shit (check the climate records; one of the hottest on record for the time). Nothing better taking a break when your hungover from drinking too many quarts of 3.2 Coors Light at the lake the night before than a cup full of that while sitting in the walk in freezer during your mid-afternoon break.

- Rugby World Cup 2019
USA to host the 2031 World Cup and 2033 Women's World Cup. ESPN Article- Las Vegas go hard or go home thread
Recently went to Vegas for 3 nights and hit up Julian Serranos based on a recommendation on this thread. Fantastic suggestion. Just an outstanding meal and great service. Question for regulars. For this trip I arranged casino credit since (i) table minimums are continuing to go up and (ii) I don't want to carry that much cash for the craps table. After a couple of rough sessions at the table the first night I rebounded and made enough to pay off all my markers and then some. What do you do with the markers when they give them back to you? Should you keep them in case they try to claim you didn't pay them back or just shred them? Sorry if this belongs in the dumb question thread, but I couldn't find any info online.- Eanes ISD school board races in west Austin
The West Lake Hills Mayor race is today too. Complete with late filings, challenges to qualifications and Texas Supreme Court Mandamus. Small town serious business. Full disclosure: Team Anthony.- Old Fashioned Hamburger Stands
If you've never had an Oklahoma fried onion burger you're missing out. J&W Grill in Chickasha knocks it out of the park. There's an interesting Depression-era story about onion burgers too.- Burgers

Article from Houston Business Journal yesterday that discusses the 3.5% cap on increases in property taxes absent a referendum and two constitutional amendments relating to exemptions (seniors and homestead) on the May ballot.- 2022 Rain Thread

Has the Cedar Door gone downhill? That used to be my go to for a Mexican Martini on the patio when I officed on that side of downtown. Side topic, probably worthy of its own thread on the Quackenbush forum on Hornfans, but after hearing about B-52s flying missions I went down the rabbit hole and sure enough they are now in the Ship of Theseus discussion. Wiki- Future of the Olympics
I went down this rabbit hole last year. Detroit tried for years to get the summer olympics and was very close on at least one occasion. Detroit Free Press- Six Nations 2022
@futuremanor any other rugby fans know if Six Nations is being televised on any US channels or if any bars in Austin are showing the matches this morning and tomorrow? Ireland is putting it on defending champs Wales in the first match. England should easily handle Scotland later today. And Italy commences its annual no-win tournament tomorrow against France. My son was telling me that there is some talk about start relegation and letting some other European teams (eg, Romania) take Italy's spot next year since the Italians never win a match.,- Elizabeth Warren 2020
Retail branches are loss leaders for bank's core business and in effect roadside advertising. And they're not the only ones who purchase primo locations (fee or lease) in part of marketing reasons. Best bit of Airplane II. Almost makes it better than the original: Witness: Striker was the squadron leader. He brought us in real low. But he couldn't handle it. Prosecuting Attorney: Buddy couldn't handle it. Was Buddy one of your crew? Witness: Right. Buddy was the bombardier. But it was Striker who couldn't handle it, and he went to pieces. Prosecuting Attorney: Andy went to pieces? Witness: No. Andy was the navigator. He was all right. Buddy went to pieces. It was awful how he came unglued. Prosecuting Attorney: Howie came unglued? Witness: Oh, no. Howie was a rock, the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued. Prosecuting Attorney: And he bailed out? Witness: No. Andy hung tough. Buddy bailed out. How he survived, it was a miracle. Prosecuting Attorney: Then Howie survived? Witness: No, 'fraid not. We lost Howie the next day. Prosecuting Attorney: Over Macho Grande? Witness: No. I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande. Those wounds run...pretty deep.- Coffee
