UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]
From @Machinator post this morning from 247: Beard will never admit this publicly, but according to sources close to the situation, it’s been harder for Beard to lure top recruits, such as Cade Cunningham, who ended up at Oklahoma State, because Tech is an Under Armour school as opposed to a Nike school like Texas and Oklahoma State. “In basketball, how schools align with shoe companies matter,” said a source close to the situation. There’s also the ability to recruit to Austin. Texas women’s coach Vic Schaefer may be the best testimonial for that. When 6-foot-1 forward Aliyah Moore, the No. 6 prospect in the 2021 class from Moore, Okla., signed with Texas, she said Schaefer had recruited her hard to go to Mississippi State, but Moore had no interest in going to school in Starkville, Miss. As soon as Schaefer got the Texas job, he called Moore, and because he was now headed to Austin, Moore was immediately interested in joining Schaefer at UT, which she’ll do this fall.

UT's next basketball coach - discussion/debate [Sean Miller Hired]
The 247 write up mentioning how Vic Schaefer wanted a 5 star that said "no thanks" to life in Starkvegas, but was all on board with signing with Vic to play in Austin seems appropriate here. Apparently the shoes matter a lot more than I would have ever guessed too.

Chris Beard to Texas
I stopped listening to Pretend We are Football after about the third year of Texas sucking in basketball with Bitter White Guy and crew just talking about how he may not succeed at Texas but he was a good coach. So I don't really care what he thinks.

Chris Beard to Texas
I went two pages past your question and never saw a response. I stole this from someone who stole it from some 9.95er (247?), but it was a good write up on his start at Texas straight from Penders himself:

I am on record that I won't say another negative thing about the man if he turns the Shaka Jedi mind trick into Beard as our next BBall coach, and I am a man of my word. He is golden for his tenure here in my eyes.

I have a pretty sick move at the local court where I throw a head fake then run under the goal pointing at the rim, hoping the kid with the ball will hit me with a sweet alleyoop (lay-up). Is that the kind of off the ball movement you are looking for?

2021 Texas spring football thread
All of this is correct, and Jeff did mention that 8 were still on the roster. So maybe we luck up and have one of those 8 guys that should make the NFL actually make the NFL. Of course Connor Williams and Sam Cosmi don't count, since both were 3 stars. I couldn't remember the details, because I can't remember what I had for lunch yesterday, but reading your comments brought the details back.

If I recall this correctly from Longhorn Blitz, we have had 41 straight 4 and 5 star OL go undrafted. If that doesn't underline the futility of our coaching over the last decade, I don't know what does.

Texas Women's Basketball 2020-2021 "A New Era"
She came sprinting from the other side of the court as soon as the horn blew. Apparently she has a history of concussion issues but a mouthpiece is reducing those impacts. Mouthpiece doesn’t help much when you get body slammed on the back of your head though.

Charli came up big. Celeste is a difference maker at guard. Ebo is the C of the future. Fun to watch for sure. I hope Vic wins a National Title

Shaka Smart - Out at UT In at Marquette
I actually went to look it up since I was just talking from memory. I remembered a loss in the national championship, but didn’t realize it was way back in 2002. They have four Sweet Sixteen appearances since 94, which seems to be the year they really fell off. Last National Championship was 87. You are correct that the name says basketball much more than Texas, but the production since the early 90s is basically on par with us. Edit to add that someone on the Horn said we are top 20 all time in basketball wins. I’m guessing that is largely due to longevity of our program, but that was news to me.

Texas AD Chris Del Conte
I was going to mention that we do this while also keeping up with our international super model wives, but Roll Left beat me to it. Many of us make as much or more money than nurses too. and I happened to win 9 national titles in a row in the late 90s on my PlayStation. So this hits close to home

Texas AD Chris Del Conte
I roasted him pretty hard for the “vote of confidence” in Herman, which I still think was unnecessary and poorly thought out. But the Sark hire seems good and the Shaka Jedi mind trick he just pulled was masterful and worthy of his title. I liked the Coach Vic hire, but after listening to him over the last few days, I now love that hire. Softball was a great hire too. If he pulls off bringing Beard, I will vow to never say another bad thing about him as AD at Texas.

I don’t disagree in general. But I think the Nebraska comp someone made is accurate. Indiana has been nothing for decades, but the expectation is national titles like the old days. Meanwhile the Horns are running an NBA factory that can’t win a single game in the tourney. I know which one I would sign up for if I was a coach.

Not that Texas has a glowing resume, but please remind me what Indiana has done in basketball in the last 30 years. I honestly don’t remember anything significant except for firing Bob Knight.

The CDC timeline is O/U of 48 hours right? I may take the under given the out of the blueness of this news about Shaka.

TJ will probably always be my favorite basketball Longhorn. Class act guy all the way around.

I did lip read a spitting tirade that seemed to include “every fucking call” but he regained composure and his team never lost it for sure.

Sheesh, I sure as hell hope not. I am hoping the Gators send him packing and want him nowhere near Austin. That guy sucks as bad as Shaka at coaching and is a much worse recruiter.

I take it you have never been to OKC

Fire Shaka Smart
Exactly where I am, but I will add that I like that his experience is in the NBA with offensive minded coaches. I think that would sell well to recruits. Plus Royal is one of my favorite Longhorn basketball players.

Texas vs. ACU - First Round - 8:50pm on truTV/TNT
Can we stop saying this? Lucking into a three game win streak to win the conference tournament is not the same thing as having the best record in a 18 game conference season. We won the Big 12 tournament not the conference title. I always hate this stupid dual champion thing. It is useless in the Big 12 and only matters in the conferences where only the tournament champ makes it in. I couldn’t give 2 shits about winning a tournament where we dodged both KU and Baylor.
