  1. I know a guy who left an oil major about six months ago to go work for Rivian because he felt working for a major was too unstable. Hah.
  2. Yea, we need to pull our heads out of our asses and kick the production industries in gear.
  3. Work with quite a few South Africans in international oil. Fun guys, good humor, hard workers, and great to get drunk with 🤷🏻‍♂️.
  4. Yes, yes they are. Lingcod makes beautiful fish & chips.
  5. It’s incredible how poorly managed European energy is, can’t understate that enough. They put their neck on the chopping block in cahoots with Russia and it was very obvious for some time how vulnerable they have made themselves.
  6. Big problems on the Ukraine war thread. Had issues on the NSFW LoL pic thread too. Anything with embeds.
  7. Happening to me constantly too. It’s a pain in the ass. happens on both safari and duck duck go
  8. Fair point. I took a look at the government statistics, link below, there’s lots of data on export market destinations and import providers tabulated by country. China is a number one through three export market for soybeans, corn, and cotton, among others. Most of our ag imports come from Mexico / South / Central America. In todays global economy everyone is very interconnected but I think it’s safe to say that food wise China leans much more heavily on us than we do on them. https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/foreign-agricultural-trade-of-the-united-states-fatus/u-s-agricultural-trade-data-update/#Top 10 sources of U.S. agricultural imports of fruits and vegetables, by value
  9. Uhhhhhh what? What food comes from China? We consistently export to them.
  10. Will be a good look for all the prison inmates to enjoy.
  11. What the hell is the purpose of this again??
  12. Pacific city mall, go troll around, stop by Jack’s and get some surf t shirts.
  13. I’m not sure I follow? I see your point about the money being available, but we should also consider that this is a capitalist society we live in. Shareholders demand returns. The government should set some clear priorities aided by either tariffs, subsidies, or clear policy that doesn’t flip flop when the person and party in charge changes. Uncertainty is the enemy of long term business investments. I am doing my best to keep this non political
  14. Yea, I would make a joke but after a certain the humor is just lacking.
  15. You need to come to an understanding of the geopolitical and macroeconomic backdrop of the situation. This metaphor reads a little defeatist to me. It’s high time western countries stopped hollowing out manufacturing, resource extraction, and energy production and depending on unfriendly nations to perform those functions for us. We will have to pay more for the privilege of increasing our manufacturing / commodity base. We also need to increase our global shipping fleet and stop depending on the Chinese companies like COSCO and China shipping for those functions. The inflationary impact of the global response to Covid aside, I believe the above reasons are why inflation will not moderate in the near term. Additionally, the global deflationary force that was China manufacturing from the 80s to now will not likely recur. Their workforce has progressed to the point of requiring higher pay to remain competitive.
  16. Who honestly needs that grinder? For French press / Aeropress / drip.
  17. I watched the geminids meteor shower from wild willy’s hot springs one year, it was amazing. We were in the hot spring surrounded by snow and the stars were falling. It was the most active meteor shower I’ve ever seen.
  18. Yea, I wouldn’t say Death Valley is a quick trip from Mammoth. I used to hang out in mammoth all the time when I lived in California. June lake loop is a fine idea, the beer at June Lake Brewing is tasty and the Tiger Bar makes a quality Bloody Mary. If you really want to check Death Valley off your list you could try hiking telescope peak. It’s a long hike but gets up to 11,000 feet and you can look down on badwater basin. Highest top to bottom vertical relief in the states.
  19. Magimix. It’s the consumer version of the robot coupe industrial food processor.
  20. Take the lump sum, put half into SCHD and half into VTI. Investing a lump sum is usually better than a lifetime fixed payout because of the effect of inflation over time. When you invest your lump sum you can get dividends and capital growth.
  21. If you don’t need money or make enough to need a tax break l, it’s Salvation Army or goodwill all the way every time.
  22. Wild high elevation trout have such a short feeding season they usually slam anything you set on the water. I can definitely attest to that. Usually they’re not too big (10” max) for the same reason.
  23. Hysteresis is the preferred term.
  24. One of our friends has the Evoque and while it’s definitely not their top of the line, it’s been a pain.
