AISD's (and other districts) Plans for Schools Starting August 18
In my limited experience ya the good ones do. But we visited as many bad ones as we did good ones. case in point our current one is as you describe, but they’ve still had to split all but the infant rooms to accomplish pods of less than 10 people. I think prior to all of this the state max was 15 kids with 2 teachers

Daycare has its own challenges that k-12 doesn’t, can you expand on what you mean? Plus when we did the tour around what seemed like half the south Austin daycares 3 or 4 years ago the chain daycares were filthy and did not seem to have staff that I would trust to sanitize a room. The education level of those teachers varies wildly.

Excellent point, but if you ask the TEA I'm sure the answer will involve more standardized testing.

Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
It's not in the margin of error. Texas is significantly fatter than NY, NJ, MASS etc, as are most southern states. Has been a trend as long as the CDC has been keeping stats on it. I'm not sure what your hard on for the NE is, but I don't agree that our current surge in Texas was always going to hit these numbers. We fucked up by not mandating masks and keeping reasonable social distancing restrictions in place, and then doubled down by moving through reopening stages at a fast enough rate that it wasn't possible to quantify the effects of the changes we made.

End by July? "Normal" days in the Fall?

Technically, the entire country has plenty. But the south has more, percentage wise.

Dude, the south has all the fat fucks. People in the NE that live in cities with mass transit actually walk on a daily basis, compared to the walmart electric cart riders we have down here. And really? Because it seems pretty obvious that the curve leveled off for a few months in response to the SIP, even if it didn't start to go down. And in those months we not only stockpiled medical supplies, we learned how better to treat the virus, and knocked down serious outbreaks in parts of the country rather than trying to have the whole country go through the outbreak at the same time. It's not the northeast's fault we didn't learn to mask up and keep social distancing after the SIP was lifted.

Time to Peace Out (Relocate Overseas)?
You better hope we're not. 3 million cases thus far over 4 months, and we're still watching the Texas numbers like a hawk hoping that hospitals don't get overwhelmed. In a country of 330 million people we'd need millions more cases to reach herd immunity. I don't understand how you think this works out from a numbers standpoint.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Probably better for the medical thread, but it's not the first corticosteroid to be used for treatment, dexamethasone being another one. And somehow I don't think an anti-inflammatory is going to be the thing that cures this virus. It's just another tool that works for some patients better than others. Plus, any doc that thinks he's found a self described "silver bullet" after one patient probably would be practicing medicine in the Permian Basin.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Immunity to other Coronaviruses commonly lasts between 8-15 months from what I've seen reported. So it's probably more correct to say the assholes will probably have a while before they spread it again.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Ah ok, I get what you're looking at now. I just don't trust the most recent data in that chart as being indicative of much with testing and reporting delays being what they are now. For all we know we could have a huge catch up day on Tuesday and the trend would be wrecked. If we make it to the end of the week and the trend line on new cases is still pointing down, I'll probably be more hopeful we're on the right track. I'm really hoping the hospitalization rates start to level off more than anything.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Family friends own an auto shop in San Antonio. One employee called in sick with covid symptoms last week, they shut down and had everyone get tested. All the shop guys working on the vehicles were negative. Every single office employee tested positive. Indoors in close proximity seems to be the worst. I don't know if they had masks on in the office or not.

I think I may have Covid-19 thread - 2 confirmed cases
Well, the city was always doing this for people who don't have a doctor, are under/not insured, or would normally seek care at an ER. You know as well as I that those of us with college degrees and professional jobs can work the system to get tested if we want to. Look at the zip codes where this is spreading rapidly, and look at the demographics of people admitted to the hospitals. Those people aren't flying to Colorado to get a test.
