Bread Thread
I finally decided to get off my ass and make a sourdough starter seeing as I am down to 9 packets of yeast and we're eating a good bit of homemade bread these days. We'll see how this goes.

Beer 2020: Pint glasses or it didn’t happen.
I was thinking of getting Jester King for lunch today seeing as my better half really enjoys their beer and they're not doing so hot. Blanc de Bois Gewurztraminer Coferm - $36 for a crowler. Damn. Even the mainstays are $17. We both still have jobs but maybe I'll just be getting pizza.

I think I may have Covid-19 thread - 2 confirmed cases
Interesting. I was on a work trip 2 weeks ago with someone who has since tested positive, and they said as long as I don't have a fever or anything, no test. Quarantine 2 weeks and call us if you show symptoms. At this point I'm assuming our family had it and was one of the lucky few that was largely unaffected. I'm sure that means we'll actually catch it at some point in the near future.

Germany also has widespread testing for anyone who wants it.

I think I may have Covid-19 thread - 2 confirmed cases
I just got news that one of the guys on a business trip I was on March 9th-14th has been given a positive diagnosis. Just called Travis County hotline, they said call primary care. Primary care doc said quarantine 14 days from no symptoms, not testing any of us unless we require medical care. I had a case of the runs Saturday, wife feels like someone is sitting on her chest. She had a slight fever Friday but nothing over the 100.4 threshold. I've got a 3 year old with a vivid imagination and a 7 month old. This sucks.

Dude, unless you can't breathe or can't get a dangerous fever under control stay the f home. What would you do differently if you have it as compared to if you don't? You should be holed up with netflix and delivery either way.

I’m in Vegas for a trade show that normally attracts 150k people from all over the globe. They just announced it is closing a day early so I’m getting an earlier flight home. I assume at this point I’ve been exposed as I’ve been here since Monday. My mom has been staying at the house to help out with the kids. I just had to tell her to be on her way back to her house before I get back from the airport. This shit sucks.

Quoted for truth. Unless you're wearing a full ppe suit, and know how to remove it properly just stay away from people. Speaking of, I just filled the truck with gas.

What are the odds our president, vp, and cabinet get tested today? Never know the answer but I'm guessing they do.

They are. Problem is that human subjects vary much more than lab animals or protocols, so your results are all over the fucking place with the same treatments. Can introduce a lot of noise that actually slows down development. This is why people mentioned up thread the strategy of going after it with antivirals that are already approved in the near term while simultaneously trying to develop an effective vaccine. By the way, if you're pinning your hopes on somebody stumbling on a vaccine in some other country that doesn't have a rigorous testing and development process...you're probably going to be disappointed.

Coronavirus Impact on Travel
We're hitting Scotland in May...supposedly. Going to see how much paying the Chase Sapphire Reserve helps us on this one. I made some noise to the wife about cancelling last night and hit a lot of static as well.

Yes. Vaccine production at scale actually takes quite a bit of time, in addition to the science and shit that goes into formulating it on the front end. Regardless of what happens elsewhere in the world, the FDA isn't going to let people get injected with whatever the fuck they "think" works. It has to be proven effective and safe before they'll sign off on it, even with fast track approval. That process also takes time. For example think of the normal flu vaccines. In years where the virus mutates significantly enough to not be effective at scale; even with small mutations and therefor small variation in vaccine formula, the new version is almost never produced in time to make a dent in that year's flu. That is not from lack of trying, or tons of red tape.

Again, vaccine development best case scenario is a year. That's with the stars aligning and heavens opening, and no hiccups along the way.
