  1. Do you even understand federalism and how representatives work? Because it appears you don't. You're trying to get the representation to be as close as possible to the views of the constituents. Parties as proxies tend to yield a good correlation. Can you name a better proxy to get the representation of the area closer to the makeup of the electorate?
  2. Yeah. And amazingly, that methodology will closely align by party. Since you can't do the apportionment based on individual candidates for every single election in every single district/precinct/etc.
  3. You do realize that the apportionment for federal offices, state offices, and local offices can be different, right? Then, please explain exactly how you would apportion representation at the federal, state, and local levels without any reference to political parties/policies/platforms as a proxy for the representation.
  4. Sure. I agree 100%. But... The odds are generally that the candidate that you support is a member of a specific party that you also tend to support (or that the other candidates that you support belong to). Most Democratic candidates espouse policies consistent with the Democratic Party political platform. Most Republican candidates espouse policies consistent with the Republican Party political platform. Most people lean one way or the other...very few people are truly in the center (the true center, not the "mainstream" center). You have to apportion the seats in Congress, state legislatures, and local areas SOMEHOW. Please explain how you would do it so that the largest amount of people get representation from representatives that share their policy beliefs that does not use any kind of political party as a proxy.
  5. Yes. I've said that multiple times on this thread. But, don't try to pretend that it's Republicans that are only doing it. Both parties have. Of course, some gerrymandering is actually being required by law. Some states have to have majority minority (Yes, that sounds stupid when you read it) districts. The only way to accomplish that is to gerrymander. I disagree with this.
  6. I'm not begging a question no matter how many times you repeat it. The federal house delegation should match the state electorate. The state house delegation should match the state electorate. The local political delegation should match the local electorate. I've said multiple times that the gerrymandered districts are stupid. I don't like them. But people living in majority Democratic areas should have political representation that is majority Democratic. And people living in majority Republican areas should have political representation that is majority Republican. This should not be this difficult to understand. So for YOU, WHY would the Maine congressional delegation be significantly different than how the state citizens voted?
  7. I didn't say anything about electoral votes fwiw. You were correct in your assessment. Thank you.
  8. That's not my position in any way. If Maine votes 75-25 Democrat, then the people of Maine should get somewhere near 75-25 Democratic representation in Congress (and even their state legislation). That election meant that most people in most states wanted Reagan to be POTUS. Not that 94% of people in the US wanted him to be POTUS. OR that 94% of the representation in Congress should be Republican. As I've posted, the gerrymandering in New York and California is much worse than in any red state....
  9. I think how they're drawn is stupid. Go look at what my actual position is on this...
  10. I'm on a keto diet right now. Because I got fat. But, I've lost a good chunk of the fat so far. Bread is one of the things that generally sucks having to give up while doing keto... And then I found this bread. Tastes just like bread. But, when I first got it I tried it as TOAST (there's the connection to the thread) because all the other keto stuff tasted like shit. I was beyond surprised. Tasted like regular toast with the same texture. I highly recommend it. Even tastes like bread if you don't toast it.
  11. Is that a yeast infection joke?
  12. It's not like they hide the numbers...
  13. I think that shouldn't be the case in TX. I also think it shouldn't be the case in NY, CA, and IL. Hell, CA voted 38% for Trump...and has 17% GOP representation... But, if TX plays nice, then the GOP gets fucked. Since the Dems aren't going to play nice in those states. I don't like it. I think it's wrong. But, I also think the GOP allowing themselves to be fucked is wrong. No.
  14. In Texas, people voted for Trump 56%-43%. The legislature is 59% Republican and 41% Democrat. Contrast to CA: Trump 59-38, Legisture 82-17... One is actually close like I think it should be. The other isn't.
  15. I've never said the bolded. But, since you talk about gerrymandering... New York voted 56%-44% for Trump. They gerrymandered their congressional districts to 73%-27% Democrats... California voted 59%-38% for Trump. They gerrymandered their congressional districts to 82%-17% Democrats. Do you think that any Republican good ideas are being looked at there? Do you think they're seeking any bipartisan compromise there? I think the state legislative representation should be close to how the state normally votes state-wise. And if an area in Austin is mostly Democrats, they should have Dems representing them. And if they're mostly Republicans (haha in Austin), they should have mostly Reps representing them. Bozo keeps going to the "communities of interest"... But, politics is one of those interests.
  16. You can also look at the Senate races. They'll generally be close to the same representation as the presidential candidate. In addition, you can look at state legislature representation - just use statewide offices to get the percentages. Should the congressional representation be 57-43 Republican if the state votes 59-42 Democratic?
  17. I think, and thought back then, that areas that are majority Republican should have representation that is Republican and areas that are majority Democratic should have representation that is Democratic. I will agree that the congressional delegation should "map" to the way a state votes... If the state is 57-43 Republican, the representation in Congress should be close to that. If it's 57-42 Democratic, it should be close to that. That shouldn't be too controversial.
  18. I've done that. Then the mob on here just dumps a bunch of "dumb aggy", nazi, racist, blah blah blah on me. Then a certain someone goes through my posting history and does a lot of neg repping to, I assume, get me sent to purgatory (it's actually a thing on this site). It's not worth my time to engage since I know that no one here actually gives a shit what I think.
  19. Why do you call me out like this? We did this a few months back. You obviously don't actually care about my views or opinions. Are you just trying to get a conservative to post on here so the rest of the posters can shit on me?
  20. The flavor has a little more wang to it.
  21. Did they just get a bunch of stoners in a room, hand them a bong, and give them carte blanche to invent flavors?
  22. I need to try this... I always get stuck on doing it the "traditional way" that I've done before. Because it looks delicious.
