Texas Recruiting Notes 2020
Remember back when everyone knew the hammer was about to come down on Ole Miss and a bunch of players were like, nah I don't believe it, coach said it wasn't true, and ended up going there anyways?

But seriously though, JQJ is running it by the staff before he tells some kid he can't be part of the class, right? Right??

2019 Texas injury and illness
There was still 3:44 on the clock. The punt rolls down inside the 5. Texas goes three and out, OSU uses timeouts, and the punter shanks it from the endzone. OSU scores quick and then kicks off with 2:45 left on the clock. We need a first down to end the game. Except for the fact that I saw it with my own eyes, that sounds more realistic and probable than Jones and his slide muff.

Oklahoma State @ Texas - 630PM on ABC: Mensas vs Mullets
I don't remember hearing McCulloch being mentioned the last couple weeks. Are we only asking him to be steady in the middle and he is competent but unspectacular? Or is he about to be passed by other guys?

Most of the SEC is outright crap
247 has the composite team score that combines the recruit rankings for the entire team to show the overall talent level. https://247sports.com/Season/2019-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite/ Of course this is based on high school recruit projections and does not include development in college or coaching. #15 Tennessee #21 South Carolina #22 Miss St #25 Ole Miss #26 Arkansas To me the defining characteristic of the SEC is great athletes that are not developed and play under terrible coaching. You watch these teams and you see the huge athletic D-lineman and fast skill players, but they play like garbage.

Okie State defense
Right, I'm a lot more worried about stretch/outside zone, as I don't have confidence that the DEs can hold up or that the LBs can get through the wash.

Okie State defense
The expectation for the rest of the games should be score >40 and hold the opponent <40.

On Texas Gameday they had a segment on the pass defense and Griffin showed some plays where we were in zone and guys were getting out of position. Best case is it takes a loss for the guys to understand to do their assignment and trust each other, and seeing it on film they can get it corrected. Worse case is the coaches aren't capable of communicating the concepts.

ESPN GAME DAY
I feel like Gameday is targeted to viewers in former Confederate states regardless of where they are actually located that week.

Texas roster 2019

I agree there is a trend with Orlando not doing well against spread offenses and he hasn't done enough to modify his play calling or understanding his personnel weaknesses. But, along the lines of how difficult it is to defend competent spread attacks, consider the following. LSU has more talent on defense, more experience, and a highly regarded coordinator in Aranda. The only "stop" LSU got on defense in the second half was when we chose to kick a FG on 4th and 9. 3 plays earlier it was a LSU blitz on 1st down that got Texas behind the chains and led to the "stop". The previous 3 TD drives by Texas in the second half did not have a sack by LSU. The 3 and out with less than 2 minutes in the first half had a sack on 3rd down with a 4 man rush. There was a stunt and the end came free up the middle. I'm not going to defend the blitz on the 3rd and 17, but I don't think it is crazy to say that against a competent spread attack that drives generally only end without a score if you get pressure. I think the Texas offense itself is a great example of how you can march down the field if given 3 tries to execute the offense and get 10 yards. Orgeron admitted that if we got the ball back they wouldn't have been able to stop us. I think the solution is to look at how we are getting pressure, or trying and failing to get pressure. If you blitz the nickel and don't have someone else fill the gap a competent QB/WR will hit the hot route. If a safety is getting stonewalled maybe you trade off exotic blitzes from different directions with a bigger stronger guy.- So, our defense is garbage
Especially in a trips set. Put a guy on the LOS against one of the three so they don't all get a free release to flood the field. Also helps to disrupt if it is a WR screen.- So, our defense is garbage
There is a difference between dropping into coverage and standing around and being a step late, and dropping where everyone understands the potential routes, leverages, and makes the windows tighter. Some of the plays were just great throws by Burrow, he was much more accurate than I was expecting. But I think the whole secondary is playing tentative, or at least not coordinated. When you see the linebacker and safety both outside and the WR breaking inside it becomes an easy throw. - To__ Orlan_o - _efensive Coor_inator
