They could: Review the names on the registration rolls against names in their deportation database, looking for matches. (Only the names need to match. They don't need to be the same person. There are a lot "Hector Gonzales" in the world. For reference, see Florida's scrubbing of registrations in 2000.) They send in ICE to monitor the polling station with the justification looking for the deportation suspect. That's the initial rationalization for everything else. While they are there, they execute Kavanaugh Stops on any brown person. When they get the predictable reactions from the other people in line, they go into full riot mode. They cut voter participation at certain polling stations by more than 50%. None of this has to be legal. Democrats and candidates can file suits after the fact. But it won't change the election results. And ICE can kill people without criminal repercussions, so nobody is getting criminal charges for this.
It is. The first dude she saw had the uniform, but not the gear, so I was wondering if he was just getting his steps in over lunch. But, he was masked up. He was about a mile in. Then she saw a second dude with his gear. There were also Dallas PD in the parking lot, although she believes it's outside their jurisdiction. It was weird. She hung out in the parking for a bit after her walk; didn't see them hassle anyone or anyone hassle them. My best guess is they were seeing if anyone was camped out. But not sure why the first guy wouldn't take his gear if he was anticipating confronting anyone.
When discussing police reforms, I would put "require paperwork for any use of non-lethal force" high on the list. Cops are using that shit like ketchup. There needs to be accountability.
FYI, my daughter just passed some ICE agents on the trails at Cedar Ridge Nature Preserve in Dallas (Duncanville). We are trying to figure out what they are doing, but if anyone wants to shout at idiots...
The Greenlanders should invite Trump to visit and have him pet the polar bears. Not only would that solve some immediate problems in the US, the additional calories might help stabilize the polar bear population in the regions.
I've been wondering if one of the reasons Minneapolis is being targeted is because of its perceived demographics. (The city itself is ~19% black, ~10% Latino, and 6% Asian, although it gets considerably paler as you traverse the rings of suburbs.) From the tweet, I think Trump is genuinely surprised ICE isn't being met with parades. And, if he listens to the idiots who make up the Minnesota Republican Party, you can understand his confusion.
Pop country rose to prominence after MTV and Top 40 stations started playing hip hop. I don't think that's a coincidence. ....and here is a clip of David Bowie challenging the lack of diversity on MTV.
I think the new video is important. It shows her face. People make decisions on a split of logic and emotion, with a different split between different people. Faces help with making that emotional connection. And then calling her a "fucking bitch" afterwards is just galling. Also, I think seeing it from the shooter's perspective makes it easier to determine whether he had a reasonable fear for his life. Since we are seeing what he saw, it's much easier to put ourselves in his shoes, rather than guessing. I don't think there was much of a chance of getting a conviction off the first video. But it might be possible to get one on the second video. (All assuming this ever had a chance of getting presented to a jury.)
It doesn't show* the shot. It does show them (shooter and passenger) conversing and shows her (driver) expression shortly being he (shooter) murdered her. It's not the expression of someone who is trying to murder cops. *you can't see it, but I imagine you can hear it with sound on.
On the off chance that this is a serious question, do you really equate driving in a car on a public street with someone breaching a barricade after storming the Capitol as part of a violent mob? One is an activity most people do on a daily basis and the other is a felony, at the very least. Not only is there a huge difference in the culpability of the deceased, it's a paradigm shift in the assessment of risk for the officer doing the shooting. If you're not recognizing that difference, it's because you've chosen not to.
For Expanse fans - I am reminded of the scene between Amos and Murtry. Something like "You're a murderer. Killing him got you off and you're just itching for a chance to do it again."
I assume that's him supporting people who drive through protests, potentially killing protestors. I don't think he has any issue with cops killing non-Republicans, regardless of context.
Killing the woman did not stop or slow the car. Killing the woman did not change the car's direction. The officer did not get hurt. Because he was never in any actual danger. If his life had been in danger prior to killing the woman, he'd be dead now.
Not to give the administration any idea, but I think that would make it easier to acquire. With a population of 67,000 people, it seems like we could offer each person $100,000 if the referendum to pass, and we could effectively buy it for $67B. That sounds like a bargain to me. I still think it's ridiculous, but bribing a small population seems less ridiculous that threatening an ally.
Using FDR as a data point is good from an economic standpoint. I'm not sure that holds up for other policies. He did deport thousands of American citizens of Mexican descent, continue the segregated military, etc.. For anyone looking for role models from the past, I'll quote Blake: "Drive your plow over the bones of the dead." (In order to grow something new, you need avoid the reverence of the past.) FDR was better than most, but most really sucked.
Yep. The bigger pool of viruses reproducing inevitably leads to greater genetic diversity in the pool. Sooner or later, there will be genetic variations which my body hasn't trained on.
Assuming this true, and not some viral bullshit that the Department of Homeland Security couldn't figure out.. Hiltons are mostly franchised, so I assume it's a franchise owner, not the Hilton corporation making that call. Or maybe some lower level employee making a stand. I would expect Hilton corporate to weigh in and threaten the franchise. No way are they going to risk their government business over this.
One of the big questions for AI is what effect it will have on humans. How you treat AI will train you. On one hand, I can see that keeping some level of detachment is good, to avoid confusing an AI as a real person. But if say 70% of the interactions during the day are with an AI, and I act like a dick, I think that would inevitably have some carry over with real people. If I drop "thank you" and "please" when interacting with an AI, will that carry over to how I deal with my family? Also, in pretty much every scifi movie where the robots take over, it's always the abusive asshole human who gets got in a particularly gruesome way.
She has decades of grift available for her. A tell-all about shit everyone already assumes isn't going to pad her wallet like hawking cheap jewelry will.
