  1. A couple weeks ago, I finally sold out of one of my bitcoins on coinbase for two reasons: (1) to lock in a certain positive return from my 2017 complete dumb gamble and (2) to see if me selling actually meant I would get that cash in my real world account. I knew nothing about crypto in 2017 when I bought bitcoin and still know nothing about crypto but I do know that I like to make a small, stupid, high risk investment each year with a long holding period for said gamble. Even through all the ups and downs of this ridiculous investment, a piece of me always thought that when it was time to sell, coinbase would ask me for some password that I forgot to write down in some "wallet" or some other nerd term and I would get no money back. Well, that almost happened. Took me two weeks to prove who I am after having to take a pic with my drivers license and then a week later with my passport and my cash was restricted the whole time. I had to write on sticky notes what they told me to write like I was a hostage with today's date and Russell Crowe was coming to save me. Finally, yesterday I ended up on a three hour chat with some Indian customer service agent and thanks to Shiva and Ganesh, he unblocked my cash and I was able to successfully transfer those funds from my fantasy account at coinbase to a real bank today. Anyways, success. And let's keep taking bitcoin to the moon, whatever the fuck bitcoin is.
  2. Cairngorms is great. We also stayed in town called Tomintoul where we used as base to go to many scotch tastings. Also stayed at a haunted hotel there that was under renovation (that was an unpleasant surprise).
  3. Thanks for that. They will be 8 and 14 and luckily, we did Acadia NP last year and the then 7 year old killed it on hikes so she won't as much of an anchor as we thought she would be....I would say anything moderate she can do so would appreciate those recs on hikes as well. I read all your posts above and super helpful already. We also want to do another few days somewhere in Montana so any recs on if Bozeman or billings or something else is best would help out too. We did Yellowstone two years ago and loved it so will do that on way down but want max Montana time.
  4. @UTexasFight @Mo Horn and anyone else....starting our planning for July vaca here. With kids. Namely, is Colombia falls best place to stay? Any specific hotels or cabins that are recommended? We definitely need water as its all females but me.
  5. Many appropriate titles named. Criminally underrated as a spoof is Not Another Teen Movie though.
  6. Surly wants to hold you accountable. What is your depth goal by Dec 31 2024?
  7. I think se fue de este hijo de puta.
  8. @OraleNot sure how advanced you are on building and such but feel free to post your construction journey. This stuff always interests me and I'm sure some others. I posted about buying raw land on hornfans or shaggy many years ago. I remember leaving thread not as motivated and over a decade later, I'm super displeased I stopped looking (and partly because of that thread). I ended up buying some land with a house in Fayetteville that I love years later but I was looking at winchester/round top area for raw land around 2010 and all that area has blown up in that time. I even thought about buying lots of land in Tahitian village after the fire in 2011 but talked myself out of it so f me because that place is back to being nice and the $ returns would have been crazy.
  9. Completely agree with many of the cons to owning as second home. For example, had to drive to place yesterday to prepare pipes and the water well for the freeze. And then I get to do that at my regular house today. Double the fun! On the flip side, we did a proper American firework show for NYE that we could never do in town….obvi with all Chinese made fireworks. And no Mom was bitching about the kids lighting bottle rockets and Roman candles and then some of the big shit (pic below). Also, I made an outdoor movie set up a couple years ago and this is where we all watched the Sugar Bowl around a huge campfire. Great way to watch a shitty 3rd quarter. So my point is that this house gives us an ability to do stuff we just can’t in Houston and the cost of that is definitely a bit of work (and $). As for traveling and locking ourselves into one location, this is a second home and we spend roughly every other weekend here and not where we take vacations. If house was further (and more of a vacation house), we might not have same mindset. And this place being in Fayette County, we want to get the f out of Houston and here in summer and fly north.
  10. I used to love Command and Conquer and Herzog Zwei but stopped playing video games for a long time….but I’m back! I have a PS5 and was wondering if anyone had recommendations of games like those? TIA
  11. This opinion be!ongs in the Football Board
  12. That is why they call it the 12th Man dum dum
  13. My 9.95 contact says the Aggies just got a portal commitment from Reed Malphurs. They are above white hot now. not even sure what color this streak is...like Chernobyl hot.
  14. This is my trainwreck thread. I hate it so much, hate most of the opinions on it, and yet here I am clicking on this motherfucker again hoping against hope that it’s a moderator telling us he is locking the thread.
  15. We have been playing Azul and Jr Catan with 7 year old but just moved up to Catan. Still in learning stage of that one. With Azul, you look up and it's been an hour. Such a great, simple game.
  16. Update in case anyone is helped by data...We bought our ranchito right before covid. It has been awesome for our family and time with friends. A little less than 1.5 hours away and I can't understate how important that short drive is. It's in country so once we are there, you don't see anyone. Also, I had never thought of difference but there is a second home and a vacation home. We bought a second home, not a vacation home. Costs for all stupid shit you don't want to own two of but now do, like ladders and pots and cheese graters and waffle makers : $6,000. (Does not include furniture which is a shit ton more) Insurance plus all utilities/fiber: $600/month About $4,000 per year on repairs of some kind (freeze burst all pipes, metal roof rescrew, etc) Days stay (easy to calc because of utility usage on days there) 2020 = 107 (covid) 2021 = 47 2022 = 54 2023 = 50 Taking into account mortgage plus taxes plus bills plus furniture, daily rate of stay is a crazy $500 +/night. That makes you think "fuck that" as it almost does me. But then equity we've built if we sold would make that number likely go negative per night (lucky timing). Also, the mental health component is invaluable. Covid was fun for us rather than miserable. And the amount of time we spend with our family and friends actually has gone up since we constantly host people. And we are more relaxed in country than when in city where we are going from one birthday party to the next or some store to buy some useless thing. Added bonus: the amount of electronic time for our daughters plummets when in the country versus when in Houston so we actually do way more random stuff together like board games and campfire time Negative: Constantly having a set of errands to do like a leaky toilet or some fencing issue or some other bullshit chore. And for my wife, we are lucky enough to have a housekeeper in Houston but she is back to cleaning toilets and showers (great problems to have so I feel bad writing the negatives). If you feel stressed with more on your to-do list, I wouldn't buy a second home. We could air bnb house, especially because of proximity to Round Top during their festival weekends, but we love our stuff being our stuff so not worth it at this point for us. That could change if we stop going as much but hopefully not soon. Hope this helps inform a future decision for one of yall. In a nutshell, if you like your family, this is a fantastic life choice.....but make sure it isn't too far away.
  17. I needed to get the stink of the Washington game off so was watching UT volleyball YouTubes and somehow meandered to this. Interesting enough take by neutral observers. They weren’t very complimentary of Ella but very complimentary of team and Madi.
  18. Ags didn't lose, they just ran out of swine. And yes, I'll be here all night.
  19. @T-shirt Sip any recs on fence companies in Central Austin? We have called a couple and it’s been difficult to get a quote, with one company even coming to take measurements and then ghosting without ever providing a quote.
  20. I own bitcoin and ethereum yet I don't know what the above means...I'll just take it that I'm about to retire a bit earlier.
  21. I went to a Madison vs Yates football game where he had 513 all purpose yards in three quarters but his 3rd down passes all were +8 yards (vertically). Did not want, not a fit.
  22. From too much a/c to LSU saying not enough a/c, I'm beginning to think we mess with the thermostat like no other.
  23. Feel free to post more of these type of pics as they are great and welcomed by us social media illiterates. Thanks dude
  24. Such a great win. Watched both the it and Nebraska press conferences. Neb was a little salty. That hottie Murray girl said they will win the next three championships and their coach sorta dissed the way ut builds teams via transfers the last two years and said "I kinda like the way were building teams by growing our own players." good for him! it's important to feel good how you got to 2nd place.
  25. Can't remember, do all episodes drop day one or is it weekly?
