COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
We were at my wife’s family’s place on Lake McQueeney. We had a small group and so did most houses we drove by on the boat besides one exception. We stayed outside besides one or two people at a time in the house. The Miami house as we call it had around 30-50 early to mid 20 year olds and they kept cramming 15 or so people on their Super Air Nautique.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
Austin has been pretty steady in the 500 range for the last 5 days. Way higher than anything we saw before June but still not necessarily rising.

COVID-19 2nd wave - Texas only - Stats and such
A 35 day shutdown of what? Just make masks mandatory. I understand shutting gyms and movie theaters. I don’t think we need a complete shutdown. We are stuck with this for a while can’t completely shut down things again. LA has been locked down and they are seeing another spike right now

Time for another ‘my dog is awesome’ thread
There is a place in Austin called Remington Ranch and they have a bus called the bark bus that takes pooches out to their property in Buda. Our dog rode it once. Second time my wife tried to drop him off while I was out of town he refused to get on the bus.

Ya that’s the limited. 70k should look pretty slick. I’m surprised they didn’t do more of a dramatic change.

Bars should have to close again. They have proved they cannot operate safely. Gyms, amusement parks, bowling alleys need to close as well. I really don’t think much of this spread is in restaurants. Most of them are doing a great job. I think restaurants will allow people some normalcy but at much safer precautions.

All Encompassing Mortgage and Real Estate Thread
We do new construction SF HVAC, electrical and plumbing in all 4 major markets. We did 10k houses just in plumbing last year. If we annualized what we have done the last 3 weeks we would do 15k this year. With such little existing inventory on the market builders are absolutely selling a ton of houses. Builder that had been selling 50-60 a month in a market are selling 80-90.

I’ve been rocking the mask in public since March. I’ll be interested how Austin restaurants and bars mandate this with the new Austin and SA rules.

Texas is not becoming more impacted than other places. Our death rate and hospitalization is still low especially per capita. Yes we have seen a spike in cases and hospital admittance. Only one county is using more than 10% of hospital beds for Covid. I would say with a state as large and diverse as ours there are probably huge differences with how businesses are following orders. Most restaurants are taking every precaution they can right now that I’ve been in. I wouldn’t step in a chain restaurant or fast food restaurant in regular times but I definitely wouldn’t go now. You also would not catch me at a Golds or 24 Hour type gym. Places I’ve been have been over the top with precautionary measures. Jack Allen’s, Sway, The Grove, Salt Traders, VY’s, Matt’s all have distance between tables, no shared condiments, throw away menus or no menus just use your QR code. Orange Theory only 12 people in class 8 ft apart and no one uses same station. I think that is all we can ask for those type establishments. People should wear masks in stores and when not eating. Large gatherings and people having to work are probably leading to these higher numbers. That includes patio bars packed because no restrictions on those.

Abbott doesn’t need to give power to the mayor’s. What he needs to do is just make masks mandatory at stores and places of worship. Bars are definitely an issue. Went down to get Garaj Mahal the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend and the bars just operating pretty close to normal. Main measures I saw were to protect staff. The bars have patios so no capacity limits. Most restaurants are doing everything very responsible.
