  1. So, in case anyone didn't know, the non-compliance with court orders in Minnesota is basically hundreds of habeas petitions have been filed resulting in orders from the court that the detainee be released in 48 hours. They are not being released in 48 hours. In some cases as many as 14 days after the release order. So the judges start asking for status reports and get no response (which in federal litigation is usually a tactical nuclear scenario). They don't have enough actual US Attorneys to handle all this litigation. So they're detailing or seconding ICE immigration attorneys, sometimes baby ones, as Special US Attorneys. They don't know what they're doing and receive no training. And they get stuck in the middle of the government and the court and its a terrible situation. At the most charitable, ICE has no system for complying with court orders promptly. They apparently don't have to comply with Immigration Court orders with any dispatch, so they're doing the same here. It's incompetence. It's also probably deliberate and contumacious. The transcript of the hearing where Julie Le, one of the SUSAs melts down. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FnY2z7eb5efGlHrb2AYBtfqMVDJSUfIu/view Also, the judge gives a good discourse on the significance of a habeas order granting release and it's not just the court that they're defying but the constitution itself.
  2. But skools need LoCAl CoNTroL!
  3. The law doesn't intervene in favor of the tech company or its customer. It lets the government compel the tech company in certain circumstances, ie to obtain evidence of a crime via a search warrant or grand jury subpoena. If the tech company wants to, it can hand shit right over. Probably not good for its business model.
  4. Actually no. Tech companies can refuse to provide such information, lawfully, except under certain circumstances.
  5. In a move I like very much, Fulton County is suing to return the material seized by warrant last week. Ironically, this is what Trump did with the Mar A Lago warrant, which Aileen Cannon fucked up. The warrant appears to have been legitimately signed off on by a legitimate magistrate judge, also a UT Law grad. The key piece of information seems to be the affidavit in support of the warrant. What kind of lies or suspicious information did it contain?
  6. Just to set the record straight, "strangulation" (not the word used but a good catch-all) enhances assault from a Class A misdemeanor to a second or third degree felony when it is committed against a family member. Tex. Penal Code 22.01. https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/docviewer?docPath=%2FPE%2Fhtm%2FPE.22.htm
  7. I'm not defending those actions done in the name of the Church and in the name of Christ. Still, they are perversions of the actual teachings of Christ.
  8. Absolutely. However, the particular IG in question was a career civil servant type assistant in an acting capacity made acting by Biden. So not a political hack. Might not be particularly competent, though, and who knows what kind of pressure was exerted on her.
  9. Well, on the one hand it seems all enemies of TrumpAbbottPatrickCruzPaxtonCornyn should be pretty strongly allied. On the other, can you really blame black people for worrying about being sold out by another white lib that seems to make the right noises? On still another, that doesn't strike me as who James Talarico is. And even if this was 100% true, it's not good evidence, in my opinion, that he's going to sell out blacks. They are primary opponents and people tell me that's a good thing to build strong candidates. Maybe in a presidential race. Not sure about this one. And even if a robust primary is a good thing in this particular race, this kind of sniping does not seem to be at all. Jasmine didn't have to say anything at all. Or, if she did, she could have said "I hope James didn't say that, and if he did, that's regrettable, or a shame or something." But I guess that's not who she is. Which leads to another point. There's probably a need for bomb throwers and those that can perform right back at MAGA, hopefully with a bit more truth behind it. But I don't think they should be all-bomb-throwing-performer-all-the-time.
  10. Good point. I didn't realize what an outrageous asshole he was until that point. It's gone downhill from there.
