I know they put these out quickly, but this line from Nahlin made me laugh:

Project 2025- Cadres Decide Everything!
Has anyone read much of their document? I short circuited on page 1 of chapter 1. The fire hose of lies and angry buzzwords that don’t really mean anything are a lot to take in. Maybe page 2 digs up the bar for intellectual honesty, but I anticipate a difficult read.

Those three are giving us the highest levels of performance art. They all work so well together. It’s really amazing to see such an ensemble perform together at such a high level of artistry.

HOW AMERICA GOT MEAN
From the posted critique: Maybe I’m misreading him, but I’m struggling to align lamenting “too much focus on individualism, self-actualization, and selfishness; hollowed-out materialism and consumerism” with the conservative worldview. From my vantage point, those are all things conservatives seem to think are awesome.

There’s something about the mugshot that makes me sad. A team of weak, insecure advisors probably workshopped the photo then worked with a weak, demented old man to practice looking tough for his weak, profoundly lost followers. The vanity, shallowness, and utter lack of substance in the entire pathetic movement encapsulated in one photo.

The official How Much does Trump Weigh prediction thread?
I’m about 6’3”. At my heaviest I was about 260. I was nowhere near as fat looking as he’s been even in recent days. If he’s actually around 6’3”, he’s got to be pushing 300. Fat me probably carried more muscle than that conservative specimen of masculinity, but still, he’s way after looking than I ever was. Of course since he claimed 6’3”, it’s guaranteed that he’s lying, so 5’10” 265.

Religions are....
The yellow shirt reminds me of the King James Version of Psalm 139:8. If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. Theology types will talk about the ever-evolving idea of Sheol vs. our modern concept of hell when it comes to Psalm 139, but if you’re out in the rain angrily protesting school children because of a fundamentalist reading of the Bible, it’s worth considering if Psalm 139 simply says what it says.

HOW AMERICA GOT MEAN
It seems trivial on the surface in light of the direct and tangible horribleness that’s celebrated in the culture, but we largely no longer sing or make music together. So many churches have drifted away from congregational singing to Christian U2 and laser lights and the ever growing non-church population isn’t getting up on Sunday mornings for a sing-along either. The lack of communal music-making is both a direct reflection of the decay and a cause. Texans get a couple of Saturdays a year for the Eyes and I guess baseball fans get a minute or two of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, but that’s really not enough. The unrepentant band and choir nerds are still playing and singing in community groups, but there aren’t enough of them to change the culture. Concert-goers get to sing along with Taylor Swift or whatever, but even that is done under the banner of an “audience” consuming an event. I’ve long thought that a nationwide weekly sing-along movement would be transformative to our culture. It doesn’t matter if the songs are good or meaningful — mmm Bop would make a fine start as any — as long as we do it together. Just give me 30-60 minutes a week of the Mr. Rogers songbook and watch that meanness drift away. Working together to make a thing that is gone as soon as it’s made, that you can’t sell or monetize because it’s simply something we did together is antithetical to our culture.

Official Thread for Abortion Demagoguery
That’s a tough article to read. It lays bare the reality that in restrictive states, exceptions are often on paper only — they are essentially total bans. It’s only tangentially addressed, but it also points to the need for sex ed starting from a young age. Before it’s possible to get pregnant or get someone pregnant, children are owed an education on how that happens. If it’s possible to be abused — which is pretty much any age — children are owed language to advocate for themselves.

Joe Biden 2023: The Dark Brandon Rises
I’m pretty sure we’ll see this same exact phrase in a GOP campaign ad in the next year or so.

Regarding the question of looking to the president for moral leadership, we probably shouldn’t, but the idea that character isn’t a core component of leadership is insane. The idea that conservatives has vigorously argued against character in leadership to the point that lack of character is a defining conservative feature is utter madness.

Georgia did it through years of voter registration drives. It takes lots of people willing to see the long game and persist in their efforts over a number of years to make it happen.

This post reminded me of this: Some of us live in small towns, so yes, we’re bored.

Speaking of being offended: cmt pulls Jason aldean video
It got me to listen the song, so I guess the PR worked. I don’t think I’ll be listening much more. There’s a Michael Jackson Beat It quote in the guitar towards the end, which makes for some interesting imagery. He’s from Macon though? So not exactly a small town guy. I live in a small town in Georgia and his vision of small town life doesn’t align with my experience in 2023, although the Sons of Confederate Veterans and their giant flags are ubiquitous.

Surly Dad Thread
Mine did about 6 years ago. I didn’t even know laser was an option. The visit with the doc took about 5 minutes and the snip took about a second. It was really no big deal.

Yeah, there's no way in hell.
I’d also like clarity on this, but don’t have any interest in searching for “testicular implants.” Can you get magnets installed so you can carry nuts and small tools? Vibrating balls? Heated balls?

The Supremes
Forgive me for perpetuating a stereotype, but I suspect that the LGBTQ community is mostly unconcerned with the prospect of conservative Christians blocking their access to high fashion.
