  1. for $20 the moonshine cfs is a great deal. if you split it with someone they'll put it on 2 plates and i usually can't even finish the half portion.
  2. interesting move going to one of the worst breweries in town.
  3. soulhat saturday night at antone's was excellent. sometimes i don't love their setlists but they played all the right songs on saturday. kevin mckinney is such a great guitarist.

they were only doing the trompo on weekends but lately i've seen it there all the time. i've had mostly good experiences there but a couple times the meat has been extremely dry.

have you been to de nada? it's extremely gringo.
  6. saw him a few times at antone's back in the early 2000's after discovering his cover of "champagne & reefer" via napster. he really fell off the map for a while.
  7. road trip. this pyrenees mix is bruce.

spent a few days on the beach at mustang island. was not crowded at all. beaches were clean the first couple days but quite a bit of seaweed and tar washed up on saturday. really hate getting the tar off dog paws. ate at black diamond oyster bar a couple of times and it was excellent. stopped at beach ball brewing and it was truly terrible.
  9. not a fan of bass for concerts but will definitely be going to this. sounds like it will be a stripped down set.

first visit to hank's. half price burgers on monday, $7 for a solid diner style burger and fries. at that price it was great but wouldn't pay $14.
  11. levitation 2016 at carson creek ranch big dumb fest on saturday was fun, caught several good bands. bat lips shredded hard, the grasshopper lies heavy was a good san antonio band, gus baldwin and the sketch did their normal high energy set, rickshaw billies closed it out and had the crowd going nuts. saw the tender things at hole in the wall yesterday. nice chill sunday afternoon set.
  12. enjoying qotsa alive in the catacombs. the stripped down versions of these songs are great.
  13. batch was a lot better when they had guest beers. keep giving them a try and they continue to be below average. the 3's and 7's anniversary ipa at oddwood was really good though.
  14. kevin mckinney at batch last night. kevin on acoustic and david ramirez on electric. played a mix of soulhat and solo stuff. quite enjoyable. apparently he'll be doing this once a month at batch. they cut him off promptly at 9:30, which was kind of weird because he seemed like he wanted to play longer. soulhat is playing antone's on the 28th.
  15. for those with hulu...bonnaroo is streaming today through sunday. looks like die spitz will be on tonight. https://www.hulu.com/bonnaroo
  16. is there a story about why they don't have lone star? have always found that strange.
  17. these are delicious.
  18. along with my parents, was an extra in that george strait movie pure country. we were in the crowd for a performance and can clearly be seen in the movie. they did a bunch of takes for a couple of the movie songs and then george played 4 or 5 of his hits for all the extras who showed up. filmed at an arena in ft worth.
  19. saw the well at central machine works on friday. they have a freakishly large outdoor stage. there were maybe 15 people who even cared that a band was playing. bad vibes all around in that place.

saw this band last friday, vanna black. they were good, would see them again. their 1st album just came out.

would you get twice the number of people if the cover was $10? $20 is kind of steep for a backyard concert. i go to a lot of concerts and i'm not sure i'd pay $20 to sit in someone's backyard...but i'm assuming the turnout is mostly people who live in the neighborhood and not folks who are coming for a specific artist. in that case $20 is probably the way to go.
  22. palmer event center? weird venue, but i like the lineup.
  23. saw 2 songs of aether realm at radio east last night before "lightning in the area" stopped the show. unfortunate because they sounded pretty good. after over an hour delay gwar took the stage and did gwar things. always fun. i truly don't understand the travis county weather policy for outdoor shows. they kick everyone out of the venue and tell you to "take shelter in your vehicle". i took a fucking uber so guess i'll go stand in the street and get rained on? we never actually left the venue, and it never rained, but it's stupid to make people leave the only place where there's shelter.
  24. the boomers are angry. this has happened to me several times over the last few years, most recently at neil young. it's refreshing to attend an arena show where everyone is standing.
