And why the fuck not- Trivial Things That Make You Surly
I feel like I could fill up a page, but here are three from this week: HEB not accepting Apple Pay. Associates cc-ing themselves on every fucking email they send me. Dude, if you really can't stay organized enough to not need two copies of every fucking email you send, then bcc yourself. Waiters who offer to "curate" a menu for me. I can read and pick from the handy sheet that the hostess gave me when I sat down, asshole.- What the fuck is wrong with you, Southwest Airlines?
First flight out the day after TG is a breeze, but agree on Christmas. No thank you.- Name a time that a TV show made you cry
Love's Labor Lost Wasn't even close to parenthood when that episode aired, but holy shit that one stuck with me.- Tell me about New York City
Wrapping up a week in NYC (first visit in about 10 years and first with kids), so here it goes: Yup, the smell of weed is everywhere. Haven't read the article quoted above, but I was surprised how prevalent it was. Maybe I shouldn't have been, but whatever, it's definitely a thing. I'll save the rest of my thoughts for another day on a different board. Here were our highlights with kids (15 and 12) in tow: Dinner at BXL -- dug the vibe, and the staff was great Sunday brunch at Balthazar La Ferrara Bakery on Mulberry (went back for more rainbow cookies a few days later) The Met The Rockettes Christmas Spectacular Momofuku Noodle Bar -- perfect pre-theater dinner Funny Girl -- Lea Michele killed it Polo Bar -- pain in the ass to get a reservation, but it was so worth it We also did the Macy's parade (watched a lot from Essex House lobby) and Empire State Building observation decks. Prob not as good as the Summit One rec'd above, but the kids wanted to do ESB because of Elf, so there you go. Again, thanks to @PenelopeWitherspoon, @The Ace of Aces, and others I know I'm missing for so many solid recommendations.- Texas vs. tcu - 6:30pm on ABC
He's damn sure not gonna risk taking a body shot by extending for a catch over the middle. He's made that pretty clear this season. Agree JWhitt should be #1 target.- Game Day Experience 2022
Night started off with poor timing. Felt like the band came out late, maybe because of the parachutes, team came running out before the intro bells finished and the song build up, and the pre-kick off Texas-Fight goes away for the hype video. Then the volume seemed way louder than usual. I'm not an old fogey, but holy shit, I couldn't hear the people next to me. And for the love of God why have we not moved on from Bob Cole. Cronkite can stay so long as that MF is still polluting the stadium.- Oklahoma @ West Virginia
- ESPN GAME DAY
"You're from... uh... Texas."- What the fuck is wrong with you, Austin?
Nope. The camp under the I-35/Airport overpass looks like it's never been cleaned out -- which it actually was once or twice after the camping ban went into effect. Maybe the downtown camps are cleaned out, but other open and obvious ones around town are thriving.- Tell Me About Texas a&m
Well, we know lists don't work for them.- QB Slide Rule
Bingo. Once the QB crosses the line of scrimmage, he's like any other ball carrier. Run out of bounds if you don't want to get hit. This is an interesting compromise.- Fuck Big 12 refs
And then make it clear behind the scenes to the remaining Big12 schools that we hope they enjoy their last swings at us, because we will never put them on our schedule again.- Texas vs oklahoma state - 2:30pm on ABC
This. The fucking secondary too often just stands and watches someone else almost make the tackle and then go "on shit" and try to recover too late. Whatever it is, lack of effort, poor alignment with the D-line, or just shitty play, it's got to get fixed.- Tell me about New York City
Looks cool. Will definitely add to our list. I am getting down to details for our trip Thanksgiving week. This will be our girls' first time to the city (they're 16 and 13), so we're also hitting the classics as well. Will see the Rockettes and getting tickets to &Juliet. Any recommendations for Thanksgiving dinner that's either a great atmosphere or (even better) non-traditional Thanksgiving food? My family isn't huge fans of the turkey-dressing dinner. Our favorite Thanksgiving meal to date was an Italian place in London, so we'd actually prefer something different. Thanks in advance and for all the other great recs on this thread!- AL-NL Division Series 2022
Was just thinking that, time wise, this feels like an AL east game.- Fuck Big 12 refs
I thought that too after last week. But now I'm convinced the conference just shrugs their shoulders, says fuck off, and it gets worse.- Carpetbagging weasel faced smarmy little bitch, Ted Cruz
I don't know what prompted this, but yes.- Washington DC
Old Ebbitt was great for adults and kids after a lot of walking, especially the raw bar. Also HIGHLY recommend Maydan -- even my picky teen and tween daughters loved it. The Lincoln Memorial end of the mall is the best, especially at dusk.- [Discussion] Mass Shooting at Uvalde Elementary School
I've never been able to get through to anyone at Cornyn's office. Roger Williams's office will answer and talk to you. I don't try Cruz because, as mentioned above, he truly DGAF about anything but himself.- ERCOT Urging For Energy Conservation
Good luck getting those fuckers to call you back. They're still working on all the orders from a year ago.- What the fuck is wrong with you, Austin?
Light rail between downtown and the airport would have been an easy intro to the concept and -- bonus! -- visitors pay for it. But no, we have to protect taxis from Uber and do the most ambitious plan possible just as soon as they had enough renters and self-described urbanists to vote for it. Oh, and according to a riveting Nextdoor explanation, the Gypsi family speaks French.- Elite private schools and college admissions
For those of you who have been through the admissions process recently, what advice do you have about hiring a private admissions counselor? I have many friends on both sides of the issue. The ones who strongly advocate for doing it mostly sent kids to private schools. My oldest is a sophomore and wants to go to school in the south with football, greek life, etc. Obviously, we'll do the SAT/ACT prep, but I'm questioning the value of paying someone to help apply to mostly state schools. Thoughts? And about the golden penis syndrome, the NYT had a story several years ago about how fucked up dating life was at UNC Chapel Hill. Girls outnumbered guys sometimes 3:1 at parties. Guys acted like assholes, and the girls' competition with one another went to a whole new level. Finally, 1000% this. The junior lawyers I manage who can't write clearly or be bothered to proofread and edit their shit really piss me off. How they get out of undergrad and law school without these skills is beyond me. - Alamo Bowl: Texas vs. Washington - 8pm on ESPN
