The SH14 was cheaper at my Spec’s and I think I got the general idea of what small batch 14 year Barton tastes like so I didn’t bother grabbing a Calumet. The SH14 was a great value this summer in age stated tater bourbon.
I cracked the Woodford Master’s Batch 16 last night and have to admit it’s pretty damn good. Right down the fairway of sweet, oaky bourbon even if it’s pretty low proof. I’ll do a side by side with a couple other similar options like WT Diamond and W12 and see what comes out on top. It’s a buy if $119 doesn’t matter to you and you want to try it.
Oh, and the weird neck poured well and the giant stopper isn’t actually that big.
Toasted isn’t really very good. I traded two away for other bottles after opening one. B520 is supposed to be great, tho. Crack that and try it with another ECBP if you have one. I’ve only seen them in co-packs at Twin and I’ll be damned if I’m choking down a White Walker to get a B520.
Picked up one of these today and it’s actually not age stated. Apparently it contains the 17 yr but is blended with lower age product. Not sure why people can’t figure out how to do special releases just a bit better.
And 1 and 4. 1 is just completely unmemorable. Somebody could refill my chapter 1 with Knob 12 and I wouldn’t notice. I recall it being generically Bourbon-ish despite having some fairly oddball components in the blend.
Batch 3 is still shelf turding it up everywhere for $199 and MSRP is up $99? Right.
Not sure where they came from but Twin has been breaking out a few batch 1 rye lately for $202.99. That’s basically secondary value but it’s good enough that I bought a spare
$59 at Spec’s all summer long on the shelf. I had two backups so I didn’t grab more, but rumor has it that flow has been cut off by Heaven Hill so maybe I should have.
Old Ezra 7 is a Luxco brand now using Heaven Hill sourced bourbon at barrel proof. It’s damn good and $39 but has a secondary value of $75 or so and can be hard to find.
This right here. I have in excess of 100 open and usually about 30 on the back bar at any one time. A bottle will come out, lose a few ounces and then head back into the cupboard where I don’t see it until I’m running through my open list in Notes in my phone and dig through to find it. I’m trying to not open any bottles right now until I kill one.
If the question is what do I use for cocktails or people who don’t care then it’s a cheaper store pick EC or ER and Rare Breed/OF1920 for high proof. If you had to pin me down on something I’d say EH Taylor SiB or SB because 100 proof is such a sweet spot.
