Team 1%er MGP over here. Start trying some BT stuff side by side blind and then you can see where it lands without the hype. But yes, 1833 will smoke pretty much anything 90 proof if you do it blind.
I love Magnus Cigar and would love to try the Bardstown take on the theme. I’m sure Weller SB is good and all, but seems like it’s probably not much better than Poor Man’s Pappy which should cost you about $50 to make. Pretty sure you came out on top there.
Just got back from our annual Alaska trip where we absolutely wrecked shop on the silver salmon. This place is about an hour and a half from Juneau and we did some fishing there last year. This year we didn’t bother with other locations other than scouting. These pics are from four days where it took between 2:45 and 4:15 to catch 12+ salmon (excluding pinks) on two rods which is about all we like to process in a day. I also racked up 4 Kings which is my best total since I was in college. The Halibut is all bycatch from trolling or dropping lines while cleaning fish.
Made a trade for one of these because I don’t think it’s coming to TX. 7yr barrel proof wheated MGP, cannot wait. Also picked up a stack of ‘17 M10 rye on vacation because who passes on something like that?
I wanted OWA to win because I’ve killed a few picks with friends as we all went on about how good it was. But yeah, Redemption beat OWA by a hair and RC6 brought up the rear with a weird young corn note. OWA and Blanton’s are probably my most frequently drained bottles because that’s what people want when they look at my shelf. The hype is real.
Overall Ranking:

3. Cornerstone
4. Revival
Value Rating:

4. Cornerstone
All worth picking up at retail in my opinion. Cornerstone is probably the most iffy of the bunch, but still significantly better than the new Rare Breed Rye. Revival is as good as some of the other finished bourbons that fly off the shelves and can routinely be found for $129.
It’s good, but in a weird funky old corn whiskey way. I like to pour it while I’m sitting on my porch with the Egg cranking out some smoke when it’s a little cooler. If you’ve had the Chronicles 40 corn whiskey range but want more flavor and proof then you’ll really like it. If you’re looking for classic bourbon flavors then you’re headed for disappointment.
I have a ton of love for Boone County 12 90 proof but I haven’t had a store pick 14. It reminds me most of ‘18/‘19 ER17 101. MGP doesn’t really taste like most Kentucky bourbon so I’m not really sure what to say.
I had to try this out after you said it because I frequently recommend Repeal Reserve when somebody wants an expensive yet readily available bottle. Volstead beats Repeal easily and it’s not even really close. Twice as good is always a tough claim to make, but it’s absolutely better. I’m not really aware of anything that’s better than 14 yr, 100 proof MGP for less money.
Definitely strong on the standard bourbon flavors, especially the vanilla and caramel. In general it has more oak than OWA and less corn taste than Makers.
