Beam has a hard time making things taste special or different than their basics aged up. Not sure this could possibly even be 2x as good as a 13-15 y/o Knob pick. Little Book 03 is probably their best special edition to date and way better than knob 2001 or 25th.
Pikesville is the available best. I like the Alberta stuff so WP 10 picks and Treaty Oak 10. Owl batch 1 and 2 are great, haven’t had three yet. Michter’s 10 rye is bsdass but I don’t have a bottle yet. Willett 4 yr is pretty intense but good. If you can’t find that try Kooper family rye. It’s a dead ringer for Willett.
There’s no MGP on that list, which is sad. Sounds like you’re in SA so you need to get your ass over to Alamo and pick up their 12 yr Widow Jane 100 proof picks for $86. That and the Redemption High Rye 10 yr at $79 are the two best MGP values right now. Both will wreck shop in a blind tasting.
This is great work, I love it. I did a slightly larger goat half on the open fire and half in my caja China on NYE and it was glorious. Not my photos, but my cooking.

Had it last night and it’s pretty much trash. Weird bitter flavors on the palate with a classic young corn craft distilled finish. It’s the same price as a Russell’s Reserve pick so screw that.
It’s hard to get in some areas and will sell for about 2x retail in those locations. Some guys in TX are using it to build up points at Spec’s/TW and fueling the fire.
For what it’s worth, I picked up a Larceny single barrel and compared it to Weller SR and the Larceny was nowhere near as good. For the retail price ($18) it’s tough to beat Weller SR.
Buy that WLW and I’ll take it off your hands for $400+tax and throw in a WB Saffell for your trouble. Or if you have another bottle in mind I might have that, too.
Hard pass. I’ll stockpile another one before they get hard to find but it’s all over Spec’s for $90 now. Just passed on a few Book 2s today at $89 a full 14 months after its release. Just be patient and it will come to you. With that said I did it side by side with Booker’s and a 15 year Knob pick last night and it’s clearly better so definitely pick one up at MSRP or less.
WLW is $800, GTS is $450 and ER17 is $1050.
Finally found a Little Book Chapter 3 in a Twin back room today. Also picked up a ‘19 GTS for retail that was being held for me. Christmas is gonna be lit.
That was kind of a joke. Sometimes the assumption is that there’s no good whiskey just sitting in the shelf at Spec’s because there’s so much bad whiskey sitting on the shelf. I keep a bottle of this and a backup for making great cocktails and people who like to drink with ice. It’s right there with four roses small batch select and 1910 when it comes to readily available bourbon.
Some solid pickups this week while shopping for client gifts including Remus Volstead 14, Weller Full Proof, W12, WB Saffell and a Redemption High Rye 10 yr MGP. Also grabbed a Kentucky Owl Batch 9 and a THH ‘19 for clients, hoping to also pick up a GTS for another guy next week when it drops.
