  1. He will be part of the equation, but he has to come back to baseball healthy, and there is going to be a ramp-up period. He probably isn't just going to walk across I-35 in late January after not doing baseball for 4-5 months and be ready to start a few weeks later in the opener at San Diego. There are just a lot of moving parts with him that it probably is safer to make him a luxury more than a necessity in terms of roster building/projection.
  2. His Tuesday morning update: Tuesday morning update Let me paint the picture for you: Tyler Atkinson's dad has said Tyler is likely to make a decision around 11:15 a.m. ET on the Pat McAfee Show. There's no telling that will happen exactly at that time with TV time windows and the typical delays to commitment decision moments. But in the event it happens at that time, Atkinson will be announcing a decision at the same time Kirby Smart is doing an SEC Radio appearance and at the time all the Georgia football players will be in the main media room at SEC Media Days. Whether it's Georgia or Texas, diabolical move by whoever planned the timing of the decision — on the same day both teams are at Media Days. Much like the Monday night update, there's a lot of surprise and uncertainty in Athens. The predictions that started to trickle in surprised the folks at Georgia as much as anyone. I've still been getting feedback on the verge of disbelief that it could be playing out this way. But it does look as though it's going the wrong way here. There will be a lot of discourse about this today, so let's try to act like we've been there before. Yes, I'm told the Texas offer is notably higher than Georgia's, but that was the case when Georgia still had confidence it would land Atkinson.
  3. I don't think many teams are walking around with great depth at catcher. I do like the JUCO kid we got there and the freshman from Louisiana is going to require some seasoning but is supposed to be pretty polished.
  4. Freeman and Moroknek are signing. Jayden Duplantier is not starting next year. They are already pushing for a new OF from the portal. It will all work out.
  5. It isn't under $100k based on what I heard, but it's not enough for me to believe he is making a smart decision. After taxes and agent fees, they are taking home a check that is significantly less than the number that is dangled in front of them the entire time.
  6. If we assume everyone who was drafted signs: C (3)- Tinney, Ermis, Courville INF (6)- Livingston, Duplantier, Becerra, Mendoza, Borba, Rodriguez OF (6)- Robbins, Williams, Hill, Pack, Petersen, Monsour RHP (15)- Riojas, Burns, Hamilton, Howard, Flores, McCreery, Grubbs, Crossland, Paris, Furgason, Winter, Westphal, Rogers, Walls, Rummel LHP (7)- Volantis, Harrison, McKernan, Higgins, Walker, Bing, Leffew That is 37 right there and I'm assuming a few will be considered grandfathered in under the old 40 man roster rules, so I think we have some wiggle room to add some more guys whether it be JUCO/Portal/HS
  7. If the bonus number I heard on Freeman is right, he must really not want to do one more year of school. It isn’t high at all.
  8. The options in the OF are pretty limited and we are hurting a bit on the position player side now. We are going to need someone like Anthony Pack to play as a freshman. C- Tinney 1B- Livingston 2B- Mendoza SS- Becerra 3B- Borba LF- Rodriguez CF- Pack RF- Robbins DH- Who the hell knows.
  9. Moroknek and Dotson are gone, based on what I heard.
  10. Damnit, Luke Dotson picked too. He was my favorite of the 3 portal arms we picked up.
  11. Moroknek was just taken in the 11th round. Probably not great news.
  12. We are likely going to have to cut a few HS kids loose in the next few weeks. I don't see the numbers adding up with what we have returning + portal guys + what is currently 16 HS signees.
  13. The portal is closed, closed. I don't even think grad transfers can enter. I think Galvan is signing regardless. He still make up to $150k after round 10 without a team having to dip into their bonus pool. There are a few HS guys I think could sign for the $150k. Not anyone super notable, but I've heard rumblings of a few of the lower-ranked guys potentially wanting to just get started with their pro career.
  14. I think age is hurting Galvan. Already 22 years old at a position where the lifespan is shorter than others. He also has massive swing and miss concerns. His swing will likely need to be reworked quite a bit.
  15. Ojo dropped to #40 overall. I believe he was top 10 previously.
  16. The new Rivals/On3 rankings update was not very kind to Texas. Dia Bell- #2 Richard Wesley- #24 John Turntine- #63 Smoke Matthews- #150 (big drop) Kosi Okpala- #193 Chris Stewart- #240 Jermaine Bishop Jr.- #275 (big drop) None of our 3 DTs are in the top 300 despite the fact that they are all ranked in the top 170 for 247sports.
  17. A lot of the freshman class started moving in this week. Brett Crossland was among the group, which is notable because he has been getting some draft buzz. I'll take it as a good sign. Freeman and Moroknek are going to have to really want to sign because I don't see any team paying up for guys with their profiles. Both are already 22 (Freeman will be 23 in a few months) and have the competition level question mark, especially Freeman since he was previously at Auburn and did nothing.
  18. Don't worry DJ, you still have time to declare a major
  19. Samari Matthews (non) update from the South Carolina 247 board Cornelius (N.C.) Hough four-star cornerback Samari Matthews is set to announce his college decision later today. While the recruitment has long been seen as a South Carolina vs. Texas battle, sources indicated late this week that Miami has re-entered the mix with a late NIL offer that exceeded what Texas had previously put on the table, prompting the Longhorns to respond. Despite this late twist, it remains unclear how lucrative NIL packages, particularly those offered in place of formal revenue-sharing models, will be received by the NCAA's Clearinghouse, which must approve such deals. All NIL packages must be submitted by August 1, and if these arrangements fail to gain approval, it could spell complications for schools banking on them to land top-tier prospects like Matthews. While a commitment to Miami would come as a surprise, a decision for either South Carolina or Texas would not. Regardless of the outcome today, sources indicate the Gamecocks will continue to recruit Matthews aggressively if he does not choose them. His recruitment may not be finalized until December, when he is expected to sign. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, Matthews is rated as the No. 6 cornerback in the country and the No. 5 overall prospect in North Carolina's 2026 class.
  20. That is one I am glad we are not paying up for.
  21. Wow. From Sam Spiegelman this morning: Hey y'all ... a few hours out from Jamarion Carlton's 4 pm commitment This has been Texas vs Baylor for days -- Baylor has had a ton of momentum since June 20. That momentum has faded a good bit over the last few days That has coincided with a full-court press from La'Allen Clark and many behind the scenes at UT. I am not ruling out Baylor, but I am leaning toward the Longhorns with Carlton based off intel and conversations had this morning My pick is on already on UT -- and I'm feeling stronger about this as we get closer
