  1. Former player check: Dee Kennedy- 2 grand slams this weekend for K-State Tommy Farmer- Starting in CF and hitting in the middle of the order for UC Irvine Gasparino- Same as Farmer, but at UCLA. Homered this weekend Easton Winfield- Doesn’t look like an everyday starter for UH. Started 1 of their first 4 games and went 0-2 before being lifted. Jaquae Stewart- Starting and hitting in the middle of the order for Texas State. Looks like he even saw action in the outfield. Cole Chamberlain- No at bats so far for Coastal Carolina
  2. In the first few series of conference play last year (before the injuries), we would often list the Sunday starter as TBA and use Ruger/Flores/etc. out of the bullpen on Friday or Saturday if we had a chance to win a game or series. If they weren't used, they would start on Sunday. I wonder if they are setting things up similarly with Volantis this year.
  3. Flores will likely start against Lamar on Tuesday. Cozart may get a few starts before conference play as well.
  4. I'll put the over/under on the 3 big men you mentioned being on the roster next year at .5 Anybody who is redshirting or has played only sparingly seems like an obvious attrition candidate. Clark wasn't even signed by this current staff. It sounds cool to talk about stashing and developing guys, but I'll be interested to see how many schools actually find success with that approach in basketball, given the high roster churn.
  5. He got hurt a while back (not an arm injury), and I believe he is just now ramping up. I would think you see him at some point in some midweek games. Not sure if it makes much sense to redshirt guys anymore in this current era. The odds of a guy sticking around for 5 years are pretty slim.
  6. Agree on Williams. Feels like maybe they try to get him in 2 of the 3 games. Schloss has traditionally liked to alternate left/right in the order if he can.
  7. I'll call my shot 3 days out (assuming everyone is healthy) 2B Mendoza SS Rodriguez RF Robbins C Tinney DH Livingstone 1B Borba CF Williams 3B Becerra LF Pack SP: Ruger or Volantis
  8. Impressive that there were even people in the stands considering what I remember the weather being like.
  9. I think this non-conference schedule is tougher than last year. It’s not amazing by any stretch but we don’t play as many truly bad teams by my count. Dartmouth and Santa Clara ended up being garbage last year. Tech/Illinois/Washington didn’t sniff the tournament. We also had a midweek game against Houston cancelled and played a SWAC school. We had some RPI anchors last year and I don’t see as many this year. USC Upstate for 3 games and they made a regional last year. UC Davis is better than Santa Clara/Dartmouth. Coastal Carolina is obviously really good. Games against UTSA, Lamar, Texas State and at UH won’t be layups.
  10. I wouldn’t hate giving him a start or two during non-con to see how he looks. Maybe they could piggyback Volantis/Ruger and Harrison/Grubbs. Sort of like they had Spencer and Grubbs piggybacking for much of last year.
  11. In some ways, it's a little trickier than a normal year because you have about 4 weeks to figure out roles for 12-15 pitchers. Only so many starts/high leverage innings to go around before Ole Miss comes to town March 13th. Schloss seems opposed to it, but this would have been a good year to have back-to-back midweek games at some point in February to test some of the pitching depth.
  12. Interested to see what they do with Ruger. I would assume bullpen, but he has been stretched out like a starter the last month and apparently has looked awesome. Easy to forget he had a 2.98 ERA in early May last year before he got sick and ran out of gas down the stretch.
