Someone in the secondary makes the most sense. Filsaime, Black, Mack. Bobby added that the departure would concern him about depth at the position and he’s been vocal about being concerned about DB depth.
Bobby - One of those players you can cross off your concern list is freshman defensive end Justus Terry. Terry is staying at Texas for the 2026 season. Terry was one of only a few Longhorns who had not made a final decision as of late yesterday. But he re-signed with the Longhorns. - We are told that at least one Longhorn has filled out the paperwork to enter the portal, and did so very late yesterday. Furthermore, it was a player who was previously reported as staying. Texas would like to keep the player so there is going to be some time here to see how things evolve.
Welp, Nahlin says we are pulling out of the Seaton sweepstakes "Things are moving fast. As of now we don't anticipate Texas remaining in the sweepstakes for Jordan Seaton. I think Texas weighed the ROI and is going to pass. Time to get a guard or two."
It’s even more manageable if you look into February. SEC definitely took a big step back this year. Probably have to get to at least .500 in conference play to have a chance to get in the tournament.
We’d be 3-1 in SEC play if it weren’t some of the worst officiating of all time against Mississippi State. Just happy to see watchable basketball in back to back games for the first time in several years.
I’ll have to make this a project for the spring after all the portal dust has settled, but there is almost no way the big boy programs are going to be carrying 16+ scholarship OL in this era unless the bottom couple spots are occupied by Max Merril types. You want to head into a season with 8 guys who can play in a pinch. Any team in college football who has to go past that number is screwed. Like a NFL team who loses 2-3 OL starters is likely screwed regardless of who is on the practice squad or waiver wire. So we have 3 starters returning + Oregon State guy (you telling me this guy can’t go out there and do something similar to what Cole Hutson did for 4 years? Hutson was our worst starter). I would hope that Cojoe and Chatman could be included in the 8 considering they’ve been in the program for 4 years. If not, why are they still here? So that leaves 2 spots to fill in the next few weeks that can be added to the circle of trust. Anything after that is a bonus.

There have been some doozy mental evals by Flood lately (Payton Kirkland, Daniel Cruz, Nick Brooks) that we invested quite a bit of time and effort into, which only compounds the other issues we are facing like the smaller HS classes we've taken along the OL the last few years.
With where we are currently at in the portal calendar, the best hope seems to be getting 2 contributors and 1 depth type piece. Anything more than that and you are likely taking dudes who were horrible last year or have very little game experience.
I wonder how many schools are going to have actual "OL depth" in this new era. From all indications, Brooks was paid a nice penny out of HS and probably would have required a fair amount of money to stick around in 2026 while most likely being a backup. This is all a tough balancing act.
