My buddy who's dad is the country music hall of fame said, the difference is one is built by Mexicans in Mexico and the other one is built by Mexicans a few miles from Mexico.
I book shows from time to time. I really want to do Ray Wylie as maybe my last show. I talked to his booking folks and asked to see his rider. It really doesn't matter if you can cover the fee for the artist if they want to be flown to gig in a private jet, only want truffle M&Ms and shit. Ray Wylie's rider was totally reasonable but he wanted to be provided two Fender Twins. That made me scratch my head as every other show I have done they brought their own amps. Well I have a friend who just collects neat shit and on hunch, I asked if he had a Fender Twin. Well he did and I asked to borrow it to see what the deal was. I went to his house to pick it up and almost busted both nut sacks. Fucker weight 83 lbs. I can see why RWH wants that to be provided...
There was also a similar dude at Stubbs trying real hard to be a cowboy. Had 3 cans of Cope on the table, six empty silver bullets but he looked like Mr. Man bun above without the man bun but head to toe in Cinch Rodeo cloths. The only thing he had roped lately was the buffet at some cheap ass tex mex.
We also hit Torchy's but damn you didn't tell me they didn't serve beer? WTF with that. That is fucking communist. Tacos were excellent though, but I'd rather have had a little less excellence in my Taco and a little more cold in my beer.
Update...Just got back. Weather was shit the whole time. Driskill was a great location and EVERY afternoon the bar was bumpin. Like most old hotels there were issues but not really a big deal.
Thursday we arrived late and decided to walk (rather than uber) to Waterloo for free Colter Wall show. Didn't make the show but did get to talk to him. Went to the bar next door for drinks and then headed to Stubbs for dinner before the Ward Davis show. I really can't rate the BBQ at Stubbs because the collard greens were off the chain good. Stubbs indoor was a great happening venue. Ward Davis was strong as new rope.
Next day, the ladies went to the Spa at the JW and the guys went to the LBJ library. One thing I have learned from going to presidential libraries is the job as President must sux sweaty balls most of the time. Headed back to the hotel for happy hour and the to Ranch 616. Ranch 616 was super funky and a great find. No way you would just stumble on that place.
Saturday, we did a city tour which gave us a little more idea about how the different areas of the City. We just ate at the hotel bar before the concert. We had seats on the left of stage as you were facing the stage. They were sort of from the back as well but they were great. The sound was really good and you could see all the "goings on". I am more of singer/songwriter type guy but every now and then you need to see a Rock and Roll extravaganza and FM filled that bill. Mike Campbell was awesome fill it and Neil Finn did a great job on the vocals. While the ladies couldn't hit the high notes anymore, they sounded fantastic.
Had brunch at the hotel on Sunday and flew out Sunday afternoon. Will go back for sure
Colter Wall at Waterloo tomorrow afternoon. Ward Davis at Stubbs tomorrow night. Fleetwood Mac at the Erwin Center Saturday night. Two weeks ago, John Fullbright at a house concert. Next? Todd Snider at the Ryman on 4/20?
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away
Well it took me yearsTo get those souvenirsAnd I don't know how they slipped away from me
But only bones lie here entombedMy spirit flies as high as Old Glory wavesRemember all of us and the sacrifice we madeOn the last Monday in May
It ain't the first line but it is my favorite
The cuckoo clock has died of shock and the windows feel no pain/pane
The air was as still as the throttle on a funeral train.
Well I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head, that didn't hurt
Cowboy, cowboy
Well, I'm packin up my game and I'ma head out west
There she goes shaking that ass on the floor
Bumpin' and grindin' that pole
I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
Roland was a warrior from the Land of the Midnight Sun
With a Thompson gun for hire, fighting to be done
I want a big red nose I want some floppy shoes
I want a squirtin' flower squirt it on you
Them boys from Oklahoma roll their joints all wrong
Oh says Red Molly to James "That's a fine motorbike.
A girl could feel special on any such like"
Well it sure didn't take too long
I woke up one mornin', she was gone
Seeing a Tweet from Sunny Sweeney that she was touring with Bob Seger, I shuffled through I music and found that Live Bullet recording and started listening to it. First that will be a super interesting pairing between Gettin Sweenered and Bob. I think you folks in Texas will be the only ones with that part of tour available. Live Bullet has some of best horns, percussion mix on it of anything I have listened to in a long time. Going to have to go back and check out Average White Band now. (yes imma Old). Of course all the first run of tickets for the concerts have sold out and you have to pay a big price for a resell ticket. Who you got on your rediscovered artist?
I stumbled upon a super hi end audiophile show one time. The only thing I noticed other than the price tags was that most of folks in there were super olds and there was no way they could tell the difference between what they were buying and a Walmarts boom box
Please allow me to introduce myself
It was a clear black night, a clear white moon
