  1. Holy hell. How old are their kids? Are they in danger of freezing to death during winter at this point? The whole point of building it like this was to be able to easily walk in and out. What’s the first thing the wife does? Put a bunch of sticks right in front of the entrance that i stab myself on every time.

Did not know this. That’s awesome.
  3. Is the psycho neighbor the one with the chicken, or different psycho?
  4. Based on some of your stories I think I’ve read, hopefully this is not a neighbor that will try to shoot you. Our roosters stay in our yard (well except the time the coyote got in). They only wake me 🤦‍♂️
  5. We’ve been mixing a few leghorn hens with our Ayams. It down-poured yesterday and the Ayams wouldn’t let the leghorn in the hoop coop, and the hen was just too dump to walk under another shelter in the pen, so it just gave up on life and stood there unmoving for about 10 minutes. Wife had to go grab it and put it in the barn. stupid chicken.
  6. My wife is from NY and we were visiting the falls around Ithaca a couple years ago. Went to hike a trail and there was a heat advisory. It was under 85. I finally got to make fun of her after all the years of “Texans can’t handle the cold” comments.
  7. I’m not sure this quite fits, as it’s more of anime meets American cartoon, but if you have younger kids (my 10 and 13 yo still enjoy it), watch (or rewatch) avatar the last air bender with them. It is a kids show, so it has some childish moments, but I enjoyed it and I was 40 the first time I saw it. Sprinkled with quite a few good messages for kids too.
  8. I flew out of Denver for the first time yesterday. Shit show. I’m still in a bad mood about it
  9. Mine was a bit different and legitimate. It was 4 am. A “small family gathering” that they claimed was going to be less than 20 was well over 50 apparently. My yard and the street ended up full of cars. the wife got upset with the husband about something and used her SUV to repeatedly ram her husband’s truck until she pushed it through my garage door.
  10. This is where I’m at. Getting calls from your neighbor that the police are at the house is not passive.
  11. Or learns to turnaround when repeatedly getting hit in the back.
  12. I certainly wouldn’t want to draw conclusions from a datapoint of 3. Rent prices can swing a lot even within a state, and if you’re just doing trends based on number of sales and price, the the bigger cities are going to skew averages that your every day landlord doesn’t see as reality. We bought our first 2 in 2018 and third in 2019. Our planned forth in 2021 but instead we live there now because we enjoyed the atmosphere (rural, woods, etc). We’ve taken some very dilapidated bordering on unlivable houses and done a lot of the repairs ourselves. I enjoy doing it, but it becomes a lot when you have an actual job and a family. “I’m going to be done in 6 months” turns in to 2 years. We started as an alternative to trying to fund our retirement only by saving in stocks because neither of us wants to care / learn about the market. Goal was to have income producing houses in retirement. Taxes and insurance have gone nuts (and I’ve never had an insurance claim). We’re not profiting. My hope is that value outpaces inflation plus our losses, but I’m terrified I’ll look back in 20 years and have a lot of regrets. We did STR (still doing one that way). I wouldn’t wish STR on my worst enemy. I hate this new iPhone update. Good bye and good luck.
  13. Yeah I might actually be able to turn a profit on my 3 rentals if prices had doubled since we started.
  14. Yeah it’s pretty great in the shade in the morning or evening even with the humidity in Houston. I miss the low humidity I got for the 5 years I was in Austin. I remember my first night there in early August hanging out on my balcony thinking holy shit this is nice and there are no mosquitos
  15. Finished except for staining after the pt wood dries (forgot to take a pic after roof). 18 more eggs in the incubator tonight. Wife said I can stop building pens/coops when I’m dead.
  16. Another week, another coop. Hope to wrap this one up tomorrow so this little guy and a few of his friends can have more space
  17. Buddy, you just described life as it has always been and always will be.
  18. So are you rich now with the way prices have gone, or have your cost gone up at the same rate?
  19. How accurate are we talking? As in if you start playing the game at 3p you won’t make it more than 8 miles in the first hour?
  20. If you weren’t 4 hours away I’d take him off your hands. Probably can get someone to take him for free on FB, Nextdoor, or Craigslist. another weekend, another coop. I’m exhausted and soon to be broke building coops. This one is for the Silkies. Wife wants to raise them and sell them. They are a little smaller so it is a little smaller. Still need a door and ladder, and I have to put bird netting up around the fenced area for them before they can roam. Will get the kids to paint the non pt siding on it.
