City of Austin seeking ways to fuck up Zilker Park
This is the most Austin shit ever. Builder tells them to not fuck with the train. So they immediately fuck with the train and break it. After admitting they did the exact opposite of what the builder told them they claim to have found āother problemsā with the train and decide to break ties and ask for a non-disclosure agreement regarding the whole fiasco. And hereās an extra $10k for you to agree not to sue us. I need to go into the park train building business. Deliver some unfinished non-working shit⦠wait for Austin to fuck it up⦠get paid extra and leave.

The Surly Mountain Biking Thread
So my 17 year old is starting to ride a little bit. Itās tough to fit in his schedule but heās had fun lately and we are doing a mountain bike vacation together this summer. So I need to get him a bike, which seems like the perfect excuse to buy myself a bike instead and let him ride it. Already have a burly trail/enduro rig and Iād like to avoid too much crossover so Iām looking for a lighter, faster XC bike. The kid doesnāt really like gnarly terrain yet so itāll suit him well and Iāll ride it on my neighborhood trails where my current bike is overkill. I demoed a Orbea Oiz all weekend and had a blast on it. Iād forgotten how fast a short travel stiff bike is. Itās probably 6-7 pounds lighter than my bike and it just doesnāt bounce at all when you pedal, even with the suspension full open. Iām not a big Strava guy but most of my stuff gets logged on there and with a moderate effort I set a 40 second PR on a short local <1 mile chunky trail Iāve done hundreds of times before (DiscGo DiscGo for you SATNāers). Just really surprised at the difference in speed. It handled basic blue trails with chunk and ledges fine, though not nearly as comfortably as Iām used to. I guess XC race courses are getting rowdier and XC bikes are getting slacker and more travel for them. Not going to buy it yet. Gonna scour the used market for a bit first.

It's time we talked about pickup trucks
Youāre obsession with peoples shoe choice is odd. How about people who wear athletic shoes but arenāt engaging in sports? Or wearing Jordans but donāt play basketball? Hiking shoes when not on a nature trail? Boots with a heel out on your ranch but not on an actual horse with feet in stirrups? How about women wearing yoga pants while not practicing yoga? I donāt wear cowboy boots these days but I get the appeal. They look nice and are comfortable and easy to put on. Who cares? Also drive a truck because I needed one 17 years ago and the one I bought then still runs great and has been paid off since 2010. Next car will be an EV but not until I absolutely have to buy one.

I keep fucking forgetting about them until late at night.

10,000 burpees in 2023
Same for me. I usually pause after 10 for maybe 30 seconds or a minute, then finish the last 5. Iām back on pace and going to try to get about 7-10 days ahead of schedule then pull back to 30 a day.

A disturbingly common trend in a lot of short documentaries these days.

What's your stance on curbside parking?
I park an old beat up Landcruiser in the compact car spots. Not to save time or anything, just a personal passive aggressive protest against the lack of decent sized parking spots in some lots. Itās a little snug but it fits and doors can still be opened enough for all but the fattest drivers.

What's your stance on curbside parking?
The issue isnāt whether it inconveniences anyone, the issue is how soft have you become that you need to shortcuts to avoid walking 20 fucking feet further from a store?

Nepal plane inverts in less than 5 seconds while landing and crashes, 68 confirmed deaths
This. Lost the left engine and got too slow. Vmcād it in. All that thrust on the right side has to be offset with rudder. Get too slow and you lose rudder authority, the good engine kills you.

The New Car Fanatic Thread
Not exactly what you asked about, but worth considering⦠It was recently pointed out in the Tesla thread that non-Tesla EVs still canāt use Tesla Superchargers. Itās been announced that theyāll be able to, but I think itās not been enacted yet. And when they enacted that change in Europe it ended up being for only a select few stations, not the whole network. They can use the slower Destination chargers, but most of the charging stations along highway routes are Superchargers and in Texas we donāt a big network of non-Tesla charging stations yet. Itās mostly the random chargers in an Econo-Lodge or Pizza Hut parking lot. I donāt want to give more money to Tesla but it seems like having an EV of any other brand would be a huge hassle if you plan on any type of road trips.

I thought she was gonna turn the door knob.- Tesla
Not to me. It looks like an average dime-a-dozen sedan to me. I donāt find it particularly attractive or ugly, just basic.- Tesla
They stopped taking orders for the 3 Long Range a while back because the orders were backlogged so far. I need a new car in a year or so and would love it to be an EV. I drive to Houston and back once a week and Iād like to be able to do it with minimal charging. Iād also like to spend less than 60k or so because Iām just not a big car guy and I have other priorities for my money than cars. Kia EV6 has solid reviews but doesnāt have the range of the Tesla 3LR. The Ioniq also has good reviews but is a ugly as bowling shoes. The 3LR seems to fit the bill perfectly except Iād have to give my money to that crazy fucker and thatās not real appealing to me.- 10,000 burpees in 2023
Iām generally doing sets of 15. A set in the morning and two in the evening for the most part. 15 is still tough for me but a lot more doable than 2 weeks ago. Also catching up to get back on pace.- Kids' Summer Camps?
One of my kids goes to Pine Cove and loves it. Itās very popular among his peers at school and quite a few other families we know. Itās a Christian deal and we arenāt Christian but the boy has a good time anyway and always comes home with new friends. We chalk the Bible study up as a lesson in having an open mind and being willing to learn about others beliefs. From what I gather they arenāt too obnoxious about it. Other than that itās your typical summer camp with lots of lake swimming and all kinds of outdoor activities. One campus near Tyler and another near Columbus. https://www.pinecove.com/summer-camps/overnight-youth-camps/- Major FAA disruptionāall U.S. departures on hold
Not a fucking chance. An airplane that starts its day 2 hours late is going to finish itās day tonight pretty close to the same 2 hours late. The days of making it up in the air or having airplanes scheduled to sit at the gate for several hours to be able to absorb things like this are long gone. Schedules are built tight, generally speaking. They will swap a some airplanes around to get some flights to run on time, but generally the whole system will be jacked up until tomorrow.- CFP National Championship Game: #1 Georgia vs #3 TCU.
Iām well past the stage of over-thinking games and speculating about how a win by some other team would hypothetically and indirectly affect Texas. Texas just needs to worry about Texas. I have no hate toward TCU. They arenāt a major rival. I know a few TCU grads and they are good people. Other people have the opposite experience, whatever. The only teams I really hate are the Aggies, Sooners, and Baylor. Fuck all 3 of those every time all the time. Every other Big 12 team is⦠meh, whatever. Seeing TCU win wouldnāt bother me at all. Seeing Georgia lose would make me smile. Iād enjoy hearing the all the inbred SEC homers bitching about it afterward. Easy choice for me, no need to involve a bunch of āwhat-aboutsā related to how it all affects Texas. I just look at this game on its own. Go Frogs. Doubt they win though.- I had sex with a 24 hour locksmiths wife
*spit roasting Like a pig at a bbq.- 10,000 burpees in 2023
Yeah WTF on 20 a minute or doing them for 20 minutes straight. Granted I go a little slow but 10 proper burpees with the push-up in the middle takes me almost a full minute. And 10 is about my max for a set. I could do 20 if my life depended on it but not much more. There is zero chance I could burpee nonstop for more than 2 or 3 minutes straight. For straight calorie burn I think 20 minutes spent in the gym would be way better than burpees. Simply because Iād spend most of the last 18 minutes or so unable to do anything from the exhaustion. To me itās like sprinting. Good for you in small doses.- Southwest or every other airline in the history of the world?
Alll the bullshit that happened over the last few weeks and thatās your bitch? On a flight that left a couple minutes early and landed even earlier, and your luggage made it but you had to find it at a different carousel. Thatās the hill you die on? Generally the airline doesnāt pick the carousel or have any say so about it. Theyāre just telling you whatever carousel the city told them theyād use for that flight. They load it on a belt and the city airport employees route the belts to whatever carousel they want it to go too. If the city changes carousels they may or may not tell the airline.- Yellowstone
Seems odd to debate individual points that arenāt believable in a show that is basically a constant stream of unbelievable events since episode 1. This show is nothing more than some outstanding cinematography in a beautiful area with a soap opera script seemingly written by and for 14 year old boys who wish they were cowboys. It was fun fun to watch for a while but people take it way too serious.- 10,000 burpees in 2023
Non Covid sinus infection, head cold, or whatever is kicking my ass right now. Taking a couple days off and will catch up later. Iād like to generally stay ahead of the average needed so I have a bigger bank of days available when I inevitably hurt something later in the year. - Yes: Pools are worth it....
