  1. Yeah, Ferrari is down on HP in their turbo because they made it smaller to account for the start issues. Now Merc and McLaren are trying to claim it’s a safety issue. Would be total bullshit if they change the start and Ferrari has a long term disadvantage after they raised this issue and no other teams wanted a change so they designed for it.
  2. Maybe but they’d likely give it right back on the straight when they’re clipping halfway down the straight. The other issue is this stuff is so complex that it’s mostly mappings and deployment controlled by the team. It’s not as simple as drivers can just press a button and pick and choose when they deploy at any time, so the teams are likely to all converge on the optimal deployment strategy.
  3. And here’s Alonso making his feelings known. These engine regs are a joke.
  4. Here's what Verstappen has to say about the new regs after driving for a couple days. Needless to say, he's not a fan. Lewis also had some super negative comments about how much focus has to be put on saving and energy management. Important sports news “This is unworthy of Formula 1,” Verstappen told NU.nl, among others. On Thursday in Bahrain, he spoke to the press for the first time since driving his new car. “As a driver, I always adapt, but now we drivers are only concerned with saving and managing. It makes no sense. In certain corners, you now have to go extremely slowly to recover energy. Sorry, but that belongs in Formula E. Formula 1 should be about driving as fast as possible, and we're not doing that now. It's like Formula E on steroids.”
  5. Supposedly Merc had an engine issue and RB had a hydraulics leak that prevented either of them from getting many laps in the morning. Kimi ran 3 laps, Max had 0.
  6. I was definitely hoping they’d have the racing yellow the use in other series.
  7. You’re really blowing this out of proportion. No one is mandating Merc change their engine. It will still work just fine at a 16:1 ratio and probably still be the best engine. It’s literally just enforcing a rule that’s been on the books for 3 years.
  8. A lot of reports coming out that RBR is now joining all the other teams saying the Merc PU compression ratio violates the rules and reports are the FIA is considering a new test by Australia that will account for dynamic scenarios, i.e. the compression ratio must be 16:1 at all times, not just during a static test. It'll be interesting to see if the FIA really implements the new test that quickly and if the new test will actually capture what Merc is doing. This is not an easy thing to design a test for and accurately capture. I did expect this was coming when Toto fired off in the media at all the other engine manufacturers. He doesn't usually say stuff like that unless he knows he's already lost the battle. IMO, what Merc is doing is illegal, it's just that the FIA test wasn't going to catch it under their current testing, so it was technically legal under those testing parameters. IMO the rule is pretty clear it must be 16:1 at all times and that rule was written back in 22 or 23. The FIA didn't clarify what the test would be until last year. So if Merc designed for a loophole based on the limitations of the test and the FIA now updates the test, it's tough luck for Merc. That's a risk you take when you spend resources taking advantage of a loophole: it might get closed at some point. Merc also may not need this. They could still have the best PU and car even at the 16:1 ratio. I am surprised the FIA is changing the test this quickly., but they usually only move quickly when all teams are united against something. I thought this might not get sorted until second half of the season or even all the way to 27.
  9. Coleman at Auburn reminds me a lot of Pickens at Pittsburgh. He caught everything that was physically possible to keep in bounds, and he's going to have a huge year in a functional offense in 2026.
  10. They have issues. People are saying they've failed the crash tests multiple times and will be significantly overweight to start the season on top of missing the shakedown.
  11. Where are you getting this information? All I've seen is the court indicated verbally that Duke needs to let him enter the portal, pending a written order. But that order only requires he be able to enter the portal; it doesn't allow him to portal to any other school at this time. The judge recused himself, so they'll have the injunction hearing in front of a new judge and that will decide whether Mensah is enjoined from transferring to another school or if Duke is only entitled to monetary damages, same as Washington/Williams.
  12. Sounds great for UT, but why would a recruit want to sign up for any of that? If they ball out at UTSA or Texas State, then they can just hit the portal and have every school in the country offering them huge money. Or they can go to another school, ball out and transfer to UT anyways. What is the upside for them to sign up for some minor league system that limits their options if they breakout?
  13. Sorrell started for the Packers today since they were sitting a lot of starters and had himself a day. Awesome to see him take advantage. i expect him to have a great career.
  14. It worked out great for us last time when Charlie locked Malik Jefferson in a dorm room for 48 hours and ignored his desperate pleas to be let free so he could go to College Station. I legitimately did a double take because I thought this had to be your account. This is legitimate performance art up there with Greenspoint in a game thread or Helobious making predictions about a team with a kid from South Texas.
  15. Don’t cuter BurntEyes, who swears Sark is on a PIP.
  16. You sure about that, champ?
  17. Texas defense ranks per F+ the last three years: 8th, 2nd, and 14th. The odds Muschamp does better than that are pretty fucking low. If PK really did want to leave, then fine. If this was actually a firing the year before Sark is trying to make a big run at the title, then this was a dumb move.
  18. Supposedly Sam told them he wanted to stay with Denver. Correct.
  19. Let's not be so quick to judge. We can't really say whether he's a good fit for Michigan until we know what felonies he's committed recently.
  20. Yeah, I think the level of secrecy over the first testing is a clear admission these new engine regs, which led to such weak engines that they had to create ridiculous moveable aero regs so cars wouldn't lose power at the end of straights, are absolutely terrible. I'm expecting this to be quite a clown show early on, which should at least provide some entertainment. We'll have to see how it plays out, but i think the moveable aero will be awful for overtaking. Pretty much every type of formula car racing series understands that you need some assistance in overtaking due to the dirty air created by such aerodynamic cars. Indycar has push to pass, F1 had DRS. F1 already had issues with overtaking this year with DRS, and now they didn't just get rid of overtaking assistance, they actually went even further and made it significantly harder to overtake. Moveable aero means even less slipstream on a straight because the wings will go to Monza-level and no car will have a huge advantage in the corners since they can all raise their wings. Maybe the limited engine power means teams will choose to deploy in different parts of the track and that could create some overtakes, but I doubt it. All these teams are going to identify the optimal places to deploy and likely have almost identical mappings, just like what happens now. The only real hope for much overtaking is one or two engines being significantly more powerful than the others, but that's a bad thing because it means about half the field will be completely uncompetitive.
  21. Kewan Lacy of Ole Miss is reported to be our top target. If we hire Baugh's RBs coach, that could change. I'm sure we've contacted Baugh's camp already since he'd be #2 if Lacy is #1.
  22. I expect the driver market to be crazy next year once drivers know the best engine and teams with these regs. There's a lot of rumors heating up that Charles will actually leave Ferrari after 2026 if Ferrari struggles with the engine and the regs. His ties to Jules and Ferrari will always make it harder for him to leave Ferrari than probably any other driver and team, but he also has to know he'll be wasting his whole career on a team that will never get it together if he doesn't leave soon. There's been a lot of smoke that Aston wants Charles, and they could be a real option for him if they get 2026 right. Then again, if the Merc engine is as dominant as some have rumored, Charles will probably do whatever he can to get into a Merc-powered car.
