  1. They're already ahead of my coworkers.
  2. Texas Tribune has that for the state. https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2020/texas-coronavirus-cases-map/?_ga=2.228915034.775902359.1598031928-1390640648.1598031928
  3. According to the graph, we should be in stage 3. I get that we have to be under a threshold for a good period of time. But we've been under 40 new admissions since the start of August and trending downward. Or am I missing how to interpret that graph?
  4. What metric is the city of Austin/ Travis county using to determine the stage that we're in?
  5. I've had Charley Crockett's album "Welcome to Hard Times" on non-stop this weekend. Many of the songs sound alike, but I love it so far.
  6. Teaching virtually for six-plus months is another way we're making our kids guinea pigs. Just like covid, we don't know the long term effects of this teaching model. Some will succeed educationally and remain healthy in this grand experiment. Others won't.
  7. In 2018, approximately 17k Texans died in a given month, according to the CDC. As of a couple of weeks ago, Texas was ahead of the total excess death count from March through July by several thousand.
  8. I could be wrong, but I think the pick up is at Read Elementary, where Doss held classes this last year.
  9. we agree completely. But something about both videos seems off, like they're part of some performance art piece. That scene doesn't just happen organically. There's more there, but 240 characters doesn't cover it.
  10. From far away, it looks like a group of assholes harrassing/ trying to beat up a lady on her property. "Those kids are assholes!" From up close, they'll see a lady wearing (ironically or seriously - who knows, it's Portland) a swastika armband. "That lady is an asshole!" I hate Twitter.
  11. The antifa found the one profa in Portland?
  12. Isn't that what we've been doing since mid March?
  13. Correct, unless you're at that magical age where flu and covid deaths are approximately equal, which appears to be around 18.
  14. Probably about equal. Hard to say given the age range that the CDC reports deaths. Assuming 200k overall US covid deaths, you would think that 189 Americans aged 15 to 24 would die from the flu compared to 298 from covid. As a comparison for that same 15 to 24 age range, 14k Americans die of accidents and 5k die from suicide each year.

    I am the walrus?
  16. What if they protested the decision to not be able to throw parties and they served beer and Boone's farm at these protests?
  17. Okay, so what are the measures? Make that yard stick public. "Hey Austinites, you want to open schools? We need to be in stage 2, heading towards stage 1 on a consistent 14 day decline. Hospitalizations need to be at X. Vents need to be at Y. Positivity rates need to be Z. If you want it, mask tfu, stay home whenever possible. We're in this together and we won't move the goalposts just because."

  19. The Y runs a bunch of schools' after-school care programs and I heard they're going to provide during-school care... at the schools.
  20. Is it possible to break up the teenage bracket? There's a world of difference between a 10 year old and a 19 year old.
  21. Picking my kids up tomorrow from camp. They've been there for two weeks without incident. We'll monitor them for the next two weeks and keep them away from the olds. I'm betting the entire fall semester will be virtual, so I'm okay with our decision to send them to camp.
  22. Wasn't there some thought that the MMR vaccine held some benefits against covid?
