  1. Probably the best brisket cook I've had. Super pleased + chessey squash.
  2. Loved Hole in the Wall and hit it up pretty frequently when I was a student in the early 90s. Side story. Mid-2000. A good friend really wanted to see a band at Austin City Limits when they still filmed in the Communications Building. He was in line, but didn't make the cut. But he got a good look at what the hand stamp looked like. It was about 9 a.m. He ran outside and looked across the drag at Hole in the Wall. He ran over there. They weren't open but they were there doing prep. He runs in there, Looks at the guy at the bar and tells him exactly what he needs: a stamp that looks like ___ so he can sneak into the show. The guy goes through a drawer of hand stamps and finds something really close. Stamp on hand, my friend darts back over the Comm. Building and walks into that show with a quick raised hand. Worked like a charm. Thanks HITW! Edit: I sent the story to my friend, and he said I got it mostly right, but a few details to add: "I left work to do this, and the shape in question from the Hole hand stamp was a red star. Bartender asked me if I was going to try and sneak into the bar later. Told him I was over 21 and that I was trying to sneak into the show next door. He became eager to help"
  3. Okay, WalMart Market. Way to step up your game!

    OysterDead! I approve! /face melted
  5. That Spring Bock will keep you warm in January, it will. Especially when it's 80 degrees outside.

Let's face it. There's a pretty good chance he's intentionally going to carpet bomb the protesters. If he does, the muftis might withdraw their fatasswah though.
  7. All I know is that in 2024, they "overhauled it," and it was a complete nightmare for a while. In subsequent years, I've filled it out, and it takes about 15--20 minutes.
  8. Obligatory: Thank you, Simone. Also, Kristy Swanson eats up all 31 Flavors of Trump's bullshit.

I don't think any new roadblocks have been erected, but it still doesn't provide a path to legal status or citizenship, only a legal bar to deportation, not that that's of much comfort these days.

  11. One of these days I'm going to grow up and buy an angle grinder.
  12. Hell, @Armybrat , it's the only appropriate way I can think to respond, not for now, but for later (and yes, I know the TEX registration predates your having to register with a specific number of stones):
  13. I follow a similar method, but his suggestion to run the oven at 450--500F doesn't track with other things I read. At that high of a temperature, even with high temp oils, you run the risk of carbonizing the oil rather than polymerizing it. I've had better luck running the oven at 400F. You don't have to hit the oil's smoke point to polymerize it. In fact, you can polymerize oil at much lower temperatures, although doing so is time consuming. When I do maintenance seasoning or spot seasoning, I just do a thin layer of oil (wiped "dry") on low on the cooktop. After about 15 minutes, the spots fill in nicely and it doesn't smoke or carbonize the oil. YMMV

Why is Ford bringing him to the F150 factory? Are they releasing a new high output Rapetor?
  15. I pretty much watch anything he puts out. Solid content. Videos are well done. Dude even got me to dive into sausage making. https://www.youtube.com/c/ChudsBbq Just one random, recent video:

That's really cool. If you've got more pictures of her with them (not in a typical, Surly-creeper way of asking) or that she took while hanging out with them back in the day, don't hesitate to share.

Wow. That's the tiniest middle finger I've ever seen.
  18. Interesting. My limited familiarity with Marshall is evident. The only 4x12 I ever had was an early 70s Sunn, which was 4 ohm, which I used with my Bassman 100.
  19. I bet it does. But what I love about the Champ is the likelihood of a impedance matchup between the amp and the speaker (of course, a 4x12 isn't necessarily 4 ohms). Be careful running that 8 ohm Deluxe into a lower impedance cabinet. Low to high mismatch is far safer.

No worries. You encouraged me to read up on it. I knew there was a period where Jerry was really dissatisfied with Bobby's ability to improve early on. Reading about it, I really like the recollection that Bobby, while taking the time to really focus on his playing, just kept showing up, and the Dead being the Dead, nobody did anything to dissuade him. Phil probably made some faces, but they just kept playing.

I think he missed some Mickey and the Hartbeats shows, but the accounts I read about the firing were that he just kept showing up and playing the Dead shows. And its not like Jerry was going to confront him. But there are some missing tapes. So who knows. It's just a funny quip. The truth might only serve to make it less funny.
