Most of us aren't saying he should be fired this season (although if he loses out, he probably should be). We're saying we see the writing on the wall. Great coaches don't have this many red flags. And Nebraska sucks because they're in the middle of nowhere and their recruiting fell off a cliff (in addition to hiring shitty coaches). We don't have that problem and never will.
Not sure what point you're trying to make, other than we all need to shut up and accept mediocrity. Not doing it. Every program with expectations fires mediocre coaches. Bama is the best example because they're the most successful, but every program that gives two shits about football does it. Only mediocre programs keep mediocre coaches.
Bama kept firing coaches until they got Saban. Didn't seem to matter once they got their guy. Look up the coaching history of any blue blood program and it's usually the same story: 2 or 3 legendary coaches with long tenures, and a bunch of bums who lasted 3-4 years. Maybe Sark suddenly gets it and becomes the guy (unlikely based on history and his performance thus far), but you don't keep him around just for the sake of continuity; no program with expectations does that. If the results are still mediocre after 3-4 years, you try again.
Recruiting has improved largely due to NIL. Ewers and most of last year's O-line haul wouldn't be here if not for NIL. As long as we can (legally) drop bags, we'll get players, regardless of who the coach is. The ability to hire a great staff is far more important.
He failed in the NFL. The vast majority of coaches do. But he was successful at both stops in college and had three 10+ win seasons, which is three more than Sark. Not saying he'd be my first choice, but Saban/Urban/Dabo aren't walking through that door.
According to this site we would owe him $15.7M at the end of this season. If we lose out and Arch decommits I could see it happening. But the Urban ship has sailed. We'd probably go after Rhule.
True, but Mack should've gone to 3 and we were arguably the best team in the country each of those years (definitely in 05, obviously). He also had to share a division with prime Stoops, who owned his ass; despite shitting the bed against OU, I would take those early 00s teams over Herman's CCG team that lost 4 games.
Eh, he had 4 years and managed 1 CCG appearance.. and we couldn't really bring him back after going all out for Urban. It's hard to say what would've happened if he had NIL money to throw around, but my guess is he'd still be good for at least 2-3 WTF losses every year. Not the guy, but yes, probably better than Mr. 7 Win.
Herman's buyout was around $15M, which is roughly what we'll owe Sark after this season. You have to think he'll be gone if we go 5-7 again, right? Right???
Rhule is out there. Not quite Urban, but he's probably an 8/10 hire and would almost certainly take the job. Wonder how bad things need to get to make the ole switcheroo..
