Unpopular movie opinions
Happy Gilmore was the comedy superior movie of that era. There is a very large millennial demographic (that 100% also exists in huge numbers on this site) who made (and continue to somehow beyond all comprehension) loving Dumb and Dumber their whole personality. They were also insufferable Ron Burgundy quoters and loved the Chuck Norris jokes.

Unpopular opinion: there is not really anything funny, let alone "comedic genius" about Mitch Hedberg. Was he good at math or something? (h/t Norm M)

Surly kids who can't get into UT
Saw this today and thought back to it after reading your post: “At a certain point, for some firms, it’s a publicity stunt.”— David Lat, a corporate lawyer turned legal commentator, on the huge increases top lawyers are making to their hourly fees. Rates for partners at the 50 biggest U.S. law firms rose an average of 16 percent last year, The Wall Street Journal reported — and some senior partners are now charging as much as $3,400 an hour. https://www.wsj.com/business/lawyer-hourly-rate-bill-3400-807cf6ce?

I for one welcome our new AI overlords
I don't think the bold is true from what I've read. But they are hiking prices on the 90% attach rate stuff (like controllers) and unbundling games (wii sports from the wii and the mario from switch 2, as an example) which is raising the total cost of ownership if you look at it intelligently, to your point. But they are, notably, making a big deal of NOT raising the actual console price as the market for gaming stays flat/shrinks. I heard it argued actually and the data seems to also bear this out, the biggest detriment to the gaming industry (an industry which has it's lionshare demographics of 18-34 or 18-45 male) and why it's a declining industry post-covid is three things: 1) Short form videos 2) Mobile gambling / igaming / prediction markets 3) and this one was shocking but shouldn't have been in hindsight, the demographic powering the growth and rise of onlyfans and experiences like that

I think the Dunk & Egg show should be putting some pressure on the show runners for HotD to really step up their game and quit fumbling the bag.

I for one welcome our new AI overlords
For one, the AI demand of chips and RAM has caused Sony to announce the PS6 to be delayed until like 2029 potentially? Also, I think MSFT has all be given up on Xbox as a competitive platform to focus on AI.

Can we talk about Zuckerberg?
Remember when everyone was fawning over Zuck when he created Threads (does it still exist?) as the anti-Twitter during the whole Twitter/X/Elon heel turn? Looking back it's cringe when you see it rightfully as the "lesser of two evils" instead of stanning for one billionaire tech edge bro over another like Team Edward and Team Jacob

The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread
Could you not argue that, by virtue of their enlistment and service and the non-combat related risk and threat that the poster above outlined, that is a big part of the reason why there has not been "a foreign threat to your freedom" as you said? The standing army, the training and active armed forces, and the signal that we are well positioned to defend (and/or offend), acts as an effective detriment and thus a safeguard protecting freedom from foreign threats?

Unpopular movie opinions
Will Smith is a corny unc but he was the superior “Genie” in Aladdin. I get that the other corny unc, Robin Williams, is universally loved, and maybe it’s unfair as his was voice only animation, but yea…the Will Smith genie ate. Also, the live action Aladdin is the one (two if you count Cruella) example or the live action being better than the OG animation.

ChatGPT AI Tool— We all work for robots now
You should google Pactum AI and Walmart. They essentially are using AI as an optimal procurement bot. eta I'll just link it: https://procureconsupplychain.wbresearch.com/blog/walmart-ai-chatbot-automate-supplier-negotiations Anyways, the one actual factual use case that I think AI is actually a great deployed technology with real business value is in the contact center. The contact center has been being digitized and "transformed" for 20 years, why not let AI deliver the death blow?

Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
No not at all. It's just an observation of a very visual and relatively new phenomenon. That and the afreomentioned Costco being 80% Indian. I love my Indian brothers they are cool with me.

Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
You drive up and down 423 and all you will see is a) Indians in low end teslas b) 30 year old Indians in sedans with a yellow "student driver" magnet on the bumper or c) 30+ year old Indians in low end teslas with yellow "student driver" magnets on the bumper. That's about the gist of it. I am with you on being open minded and accepting and also benefiting from outsized appreciation. I think most people I know who want to leave have a "when my kids graduate plan" type 5 year plan at this point. I don't know anyone who would waste time at a townhall to complain and be racist.

And it's scary for them too which I feel sad for. I have a close Indian friend up here who works for AWS. Probably makes $500k a year. When the Jan 27th layoffs were coming up, he was a nervous wreck all January until he found out he was safe. Not because the money, he can make +/- 10% of that probably anywhere. But it's the fear that he would have 30 days to find a job or have to leave the country if he was laid off and didn't find a landing spot to sponsor him. What's the phrase you taught me? Stochastic terrorism.

Anecdotal to Frisco-area Indians, but you'd be surprised how they don't like affirmative action. I've seen it where they (and the Asians, surprisingly) are ever bit as racist as the anglos towards stuff like affirmative action, dei, etc. They feel like they squeezed on both sides, they get discriminated against because they aren't white, but on the other end they get zero benefit because of the "model minority" fallacy. I've seen more south asians and asians do explicitly racist things like call their kids away from the local playground and shooing them away from black kids when they were innocently playing or goofing around whereas the white folks here do that more sneaky. You'd think that the anglos of Frisco and Indians are almost the exact same people in a lot of ways like the aforementioned politics and community, except they are brown and generally not Christians (though some of that is even changing pretty quickly up here).- Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
It's probably on par. Indians on visas get taking advantage a little bit in comp from what I've seen, at least in the wrench-turning class of IT (e.g. developers and technical middle management of products, etc.). I think I shared you can't take a walk in a neighborhood up here without seeing folks in a TWITCH branded swag of some sort (or traditional indian sari/wardrobe for those 75+ year olds who all walk around the 'hoods around keeping healthy).- Surly kids who can't get into UT
Well, I guess we have tried nothing and are all out of ideas on how to get our best students to want to consider crappy U of H and the like! We will always be unified in our complaints on not being the UC system. - Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
