It wouldn’t have gone out at Camden Yards, true, but I wouldn’t call it cheap either.

Even if Brantley doesn’t return, if you start Vazquez, Mancini at 1B, Diaz in LF, and McCormick in CF, everyone in the lineup has a wRC+ over 100. I don’t believe any other team can say that. That’s objectively not full of bad hitters.

Could also place Castro on it.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
If they don’t get him, they should just roll with McCormick out there basically everyday. No one else realistically proposed is an upgrade.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
And a career wRC+ of 82. This is only the second season in his career he hasn’t been below average. I don’t really see him as an upgrade.- Piss on Grave Tour
Was going to add him. Can’t believe it took that long.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Well the 2 they just got + Bregman aren’t there, to be fair.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
So more like a homeless junkie's Juan Soto maybe.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
I mean, one is arguably going to be the best hitter of his generation, reached the majors as a teenager, and is a defensive liability; the other is an elite defender who strikes out a third of the time and can't stick in the big leagues in his late 20s. They're practically the same guy.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Oh I get why they would want him. But it seems like they gave up a LOT to get him.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
The Rays didn't get a prospect from the Astros, unless the reporting has changed. The only prospect I have seen that Houston sent out is McDermott to Baltimore. Which is why I find the move strange for them.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
I get this move from both the Astros and Orioles standpoint. The real puzzler for me is TB, who gave up 2 prospects (the one going to Baltimore is top 100! he's headed for Tommy John, but who doesn't these days?) for Siri.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
That's a great deal, if that's it's final form. Per Fangraphs, McDermott is a 40 and Murray a 40+ - so they swapped one pitching prospect for another that is roughly equal, maybe better. So they basically traded Siri for Mancini straight up. That's a win.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Yes. He's played there some this year, and a lot in the past. That versatility+the likely lesser cost might have made him a more appealing option than Bell.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Correct. He hasn’t played more than 40 games there since 2018, and none this year. I’m not sure he’s capable of it anymore.- 2022 MLB thread
More like why for the Padres. That’s a lot to give up for a closer, even a great one. Especially considering they gave up an adequate one in the process: Hader: 37 G, 34 IP, 29 SV, 4.24 ERA, 3.47 FIP, 2.41xFIP, .6 WAR Rogers: 42 G, 42.1 IP, 28 SV, 4.35 ERA, 2.35 FIP, 3.35 xFIP, 1.3 WAR- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
I think because he was on another level in 2018-19, everyone compares him to that guy rather than accurately assessing him relative to the rest of the league. He’s still a top 10 3B this season in WAR, top 10 in wRC+, he’s even 12th in homers. He might not be 2019 Bregman, but his numbers right now are extremely similar to 2017 Bregman-it seems that’s closer to who he is without the juiced ball. But that’s still a solid, above average player.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Bell is obviously the prime target, but Choi would be a decent upgrade in a platoon with Yuli, as mentioned. If you compare McCormick with any realistic CF trade candidates, I’m not convinced there’s a real upgrade there (of course, they could still use an OF bat in general depending on Brantley). And Maldonado will catch every playoff game-this should be known by now—so how much do you really want to give up for a guy who will play maybe 25 regular season games?- What is an “Elite”?
If you have to ask, then clearly you’re not.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
It would be trading for a 1B. It’s a much easier position to upgrade the bat even in a vacuum, and McCormick is out hitting Yuli.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
KC would do that in a heartbeat. Houston wouldn't.- Official Thread for Abortion Demagoguery
Is this questions only?- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
Well you’d also be getting a former top 50 prospect you debuted this year. He’s admittedly struggling, but he was a first round pick when Click was in TB, so there’s familiarity there.- 2022 Houston Astros Thread
This would be a solid move if there’s any truth to it. https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/report-houston-astros-tampa-bay-rays-discuss-ji-man-choi-jose-urquidy-jose-siri-josh-lowe-swap - 2022 Houston Astros Thread
