  1. I’m pretty sure you misread that post.
  2. I know this isn’t your primary point, but that’s precisely why some people came to the New World: they not only wanted to escape persecution, they wanted to establish their own religion as official. Roger Williams in Rhode Island stands out as the early exception. Religious freedom as we think of it was foreign to them.
  3. Yeah, but they're Eagles fans. There's not a lot of daylight between him, Rich Kotite, and Chip Kelly if we are just talking relatively recent Eagles coaches. And none of those is even statistically their worst coach in my lifetime - that would be Marion Campbell. In fact, he's a great contender for the shortlist of worst ever: he went 34-80-1 across 9 seasons (including 2 stints with Atlanta! How did he get hired again???). He has the worst winning percentage of any NFL coach with over 100 games.
  4. Ray Rhodes is a strange choice to lump in with those guys. He was basically just a mediocrity.
  5. Read some more of her stuff. She’s clearly not a Republican.
  6. Lexington. And that’s the point. He leaves there in the last episode. His daughter is just a few months old. Fast forward 4 years in the epilogue, he’s in Miami, and she appears to be 4-5 years old. Which makes sense. Now we are another 4 years after that, and she’s suddenly 15. Even if you assume he didn’t leave Kentucky immediately (though it’s pretty clear in the finale he is) and stretch it out to him somehow just having left there in the epilogue, she can’t be more than about 12.
  7. The timeline doesn’t make sense. His daughter has aged a decade in the last 4 years.
  8. Better than your NFL one.
  9. Meyer is more like Amber Heard: visibly past his prime and will likely crap in your bed.
  10. Carroll had an overall winning record, a division title, and two playoff appearances in 4 seasons. Saban was 9-7 and then 6-10. Those aren’t at all comparable even without the spectacular implosion off the field.
  11. We need an eye roll.
  12. No one credible-there a reason those guys don’t have jobs in academia. As historians go, they’re the equivalent of America’s Frontline Doctors. Which makes the Jesus mythicist posts extra amusing. (Obviously the bare existence of Jesus the man is a separate question from who he was.)
  13. It was a joke. Relax. (He responded to the defensive atheist who injects his disbelief and disdain for religion into every thread even remotely related to the subject and some not related at all but is totally not zealous why would you think that such a thing even exists?)
  14. So overzealous atheists are actually against reading?
  15. That was my memory too.
  16. I’m confused by a couple of posts claiming Lobo liked to humblebrag. It wasn’t particularly humble.
  17. There was Cruiser and TheCruiser, I don’t remember which he was for sure. He’s not the airplane dipper.
  18. Pretty sure it was Lobo himself (wasn’t he Cruiser then or something?) who started talking about utilizing the mattress scale.
  19. You have to be pretty drunk to think April falls between November and January.
  20. It’s been all downhill since the election of 1800.
  21. Actually they didn’t even have the same sticker. Have you somehow forgotten the metallic Longhorn?
  22. I already said you couldn’t really blame that fairly on Meyer. But he got in a bar fight as a freshman that no charges were filed in because the victim was in contact with UF coaches. That was pretty widely reported, you can easily look it up. Youre right about most fans here wanting him, of course. I never did and was open about that. I think he’s a pretty unsavory character. But you’re right that blaming him for Hernandez is silly.
  23. He was in a bar fight that could have resulted in felony charges that Urban swept under the rug. And then there’s the shooting he was questioned about-who knows what happened there. A bit more than just smoking pot. So if he were in jail where he likely belonged, yeah, Odin Lloyd would be alive. But I don’t think you can really lay all the blame for that on Meyer.
  24. Johan Santana* *Maybe But it seems the twisted ankle a month later is what really did him in. He went 3-2 with a 3.60 ERA, including 8 shutout innings against the Dodgers, in the 5 starts between the no hitter and that game.
