  15. you may be surprised how durable many of those old systems are. in fact, a thick layer of dust may have helped preserve the components while the system was in storage. however, rust and corrosion (usually from batteries or capacitors) can make it hard to repair. one of the biggest hurdles for new collectors is figuring out how to get old software images and how to put those images in media that can be read by the machine. there's a niche market out there for creating peipherals based on modern technology that can be used in vintage systems. for example, I have a card that i can put in any apple ii with slots that lets me use usb flash drives to load software images that can be exposed to the system as either a floppy drive or a scsi hard drive by the apple ii. there are also various video adapters that will let you plug your old system into a vga/dvi/hdmi display port.
  16. that twitter thread is an a+ example of aggy delusion and why you should never encourage your kid to go there.
  17. jfc herbstreit is such a gotdam hypocritical pussy. fuck him.
  18. in wargames, wopr tries to crack the code to override the launch sequence. however, joshua cracks it in about 10-15 minutes. some of you math nerds can correct me if i'm wrong, but that means that there are (26^6)*(10^4) or over 3 trillion combinations/codes. even if joshua was guessing 10 combinations every second, it would have taken him about 10,000 years to guess the right launch code. i don't know what kind of power the department of defense had in 1983, but my 1 mhz 6502 apple ii could barely run stickybear bop without driving me crazy. oh, and this is surly, so...
  19. john jay college sounds like where you would go to master the asian massage technique.
