He needs to double down and own that statement. If he apologizes and tries to backtrack he has already lost. Because the Republicans aren't going to let it go. It has to be managed well. And color me skeptical the campaign that produced that soundbite will do so. But why make a statement like that anyway? He needs to be attacking Republicans for corruption and illegal activities. Showing how they are making Texas and the United States worse in every concievable measure. Instead going in on a controversial culture war issue like that seems like a bad idea. He should be pivoting every question. He needed to shift that back to how the Republicans are exploiting immigration for corrupt and illegal purposes. And he is going to put a stop to that. How Jesus loves law and order. There. And lets be real the Democrats would never do that anyway. Under both Obama and Biden the Democrats basically continued Republican border policies. If some left wing person really wanted some kind of overhaul of how immigration is done, I have my double Talarico would burn much political capital to make that happen. Now that he has said it though, he needs to own it and try to use it to his advantage. Trying to hide it or minimize it will be a loser move.
I would like for our immigration policy to reflect actual reality and our economic needs. But it hasn't been that way for...100 years? The closest we ever got was pre-9/11 George W Bush when he briefly talked about having a robust guest worker program. But whole point was to be able to exploit poor foreign labor and circumvent labor laws. It never actually had much to do with immigration. The fact that now it is used as an excuse to destroy local government and enact fascist government is...well probably predictable.
Of course the polar vortex weakening because of global warming is contributing...but whatever. The president is too stupid to understand something I easily grasped when I was 10 years old.
The things is...I would have voted for her even if she was. Even if the President was just a cement block sitting on a desk in the oval office that would be an improvement over an actively malevolent jackass. That is how low the bar is the Democrats. Which is unfortunate because you keep hoping that someday the Democrats will realize how terrible they are and reform and cut out of the rot. But the Republicans are so much worse they keep being sent back into powers despite themselves. Somehow despite being the worst waste of space in the House, a body with several members suffering from dementia at age 90+, Jefferies is likely to be Speaker of the House next year. It is just infuriating. I do think things are slowly improving in the party one funeral, and primary, at a time. But it isn't moving any where near fast enough for them not to blow it once again.
Well the problem is, our power and prosperity was based on all of those things. There is no way to keep funding our military and maintain our wealth without that structure. Our national security and prosperity will collapse like a house of cards. So that's cool.
Mineral rights. As if American companies couldn't already go extract minerals in Greenland. Back in the 1990s I remember feeling a bit nervous history had made us masters of the world considering we are an incredibly stupid country full of idiots. But I hoped nobody else would notice. But now I guess we are showing our ass to the world.
I can name the starting line up of the 1992 team (I think) from heart still. Catcher Chris Abbe First Braxton Hickman Second Roberto Deleon Third Clay King Shortstop Tim Harkrider Outfield Charles Abernathy Outfield Calvin Murray Outfield Mark Prather Pitcher/DH Brooks Kieschnick It is a completely useless skill. And nobody cares. Just shows how much the team meant to me as a kid. Fucking Pepperdine ripped my heart out.
That is what they do. They have always fallen over themselves covering for him like my sister used to do with her alcoholic ex-husband. Our media has always been...suspect but in the past decade they stopped even reporting reality.
Only because those teams had a low number of losses though. It is a risk. If you have two or fewer losses then sure, it can help. But the first goal is to have two or fewer losses.
People showing up to explain why something incredibly stupid that Trump wants is actually not stupid and makes sense has been practically our national sport since he got elected the first time. It barely phases me anymore. I barely look at them any more but I expect that the mainstream media is awash in articles acting like Trump has a great point in threatening the peace of the world over some vague goal in Greenland.
The idea that the government is only appearing to do incredibly stupid things in public while acting wisely and strategically secretly behind the scenes has been thoroughly proven wrong hundreds, if not thousands, of times in the past. I need to see some pretty convincing evidence of that. But even if it is true that secretly we are acting in friendship with Denmark and the Europeans it might not even matter. Because politically we are doing devastating damage to our strategic interests and empowering anti-American political parties and politicians in those countries.
The insanity is thinking we need to own it for defensiver purposes. Denmark and Greenland would have let us do whatever we wanted in Greenland for security purposes. There is absolutely no reason to want it, at least for that purpose. But now we are increasing the number of hostile states. Anti-American parties willing to work with with the Chinese will be massively empowered all through Europe and in Canada and Mexico. China doesn't want Greenland.
