We went to Parker's Club here in Austin recently. I never really got into jazz and probably have 5 songs total in my catalog. So, grain of salt and all, but I was immensely entertained and impressed. The house band is the Kris Kimura Quartet fronted by the owner and they were exceptional. By the end I was certain I would return soon, and I wanted to find every song they played and listen to them more. The venue is exactly what "jazz club" evokes. Small, intimate, dark and a very cool vibe. The service was great and the owner genuinely exudes his passion for the music and his establishment. Highly recommended especially for a unique date night, even if jazz isn't typically your thing like it has been with me.
Old news but I took my son to see Tame Impala a few weeks back, a show I would have never gone to myself. 1) It was actually a damn good show. I came away impressed and actually liking the music more. 2) Saw maybe three guys as old as me. 3) Also saw the pure joy on my kids' face when one of his favorite songs started and he stood and sang the whole thing. It made the absurd price tag very much worth it.
Why stop with the generational unicorn superstar who is obviously doomed to perpetual IL stints? Like I saw, probably in some tiktok comments or something, that 44% of NBA player's kids are not very good? Bronny. There you go. Yet Spurs management ignored that irrefutable fact and drafted, and even play, Dylan Harper. Gotta dump him ASAP too.
Speaking of delusion, lying, and cowardice... Someone mentioned aggy's bowl game envy in the recruiting thread, which got me looking up their bowl wins/losses (spoiler: they're under .500) and ultimately at the aggy football Wikipedia page. Those with Wiki access may consider editing the "Rivalries" section, or add a factual accuracy disclaimer to the top. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_A%26M_Aggies_football#Rivalries "Fairly even" is 29-20 Texas (including the mid to late 80s program where, somehow, some way ... aggy quickly "got good" before regressing to the mean). Just a brief sample of the margin of victory post "military school." 49-12 52-14 38-3 42-13 32-3 57-28 53-16 45-13 51-15 50-20
The "we could have beat Miami the bestest team evar" narrative will put the start of the big drop on next year's aggy rollercoaster somewhere around the exosphere.
