2025 Random Games thread
I like how the network highlights the corn WR blocking, and neither Brando nor his idiot broadcast partner catch that he engaged well before the pass was thrown.

RIP Gilson Lavis
Died a few days ago. Played on some great Squeeze songs during what I think was their best period, including Cool for Cats, Pulling Mussels, Tempted, Is That Love, etc., etc. His drumming always seemed to serve the song well. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/music/articles/longtime-drummer-classic-rock-band-215027149.html

Great Western Movies
Great movie (as is True Grit, the Magnificant 7, and a bunch of others), but my choice for best Western of the 1960's would be The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Tom Petty kicks all kinds of ass
My understanding has always been that TP punched the wall and broke his hand all to hell because of dissatisfaction with how the recording was going on one of his songs on Southern Accents.

NFL Week 9
Just an atrocious effort. No attempt to wrap at all.

2025 World Series- Dodgers v Blue Jays
Fucking Blue Jays, you had it in your hands & just coughed it up. Can't squander that many opportunities against that caliber of a team. Great game, great series. Congrats to LA. They kept fighting the entire time & made the plays.

Texas vs. Vanderbilt - 11am on ABC
JFC, just stop. Did you forget the first three fucking quarters?

Texas vs. Vanderbilt - 11am on ABC
OK, fair enough. But you do realize that play probably doesn't happen if the refs had properly called DPI on Vandy during the prior Texas drive, right?

Texas vs. Vanderbilt - 11am on ABC
Sark's responsible for the refs blowing obvious fucking calls??

Texas vs. Vanderbilt - 11am on ABC
Filsaime having a shitty game. Missed tackle on the Vandy TD and a stupid personal foul.

I don't mind it at all.

Now Marcia Ball - well fuck ALS
That's sad news about Marcia Ball. She certainly knows her way around the keyboard. Would play up a storm while kicking one of her crossed legs to the rhythm. Speaking of weddings, I once saw her play a wedding reception. The groom (who was a friend of a friend) absolutely loved Marcia Ball's music, so they came up with enough $ to get her to play the reception. Unfortunately, things got cut short when the groom hurt himself dancing during the festivities.

My first thought was, "Why the hell is someone dedicating a thread to a brand of sewing machines?"

Wine
The wife (no pics) and I are only occasional wine drinkers, and imbibe more red than white. But she does have a fondness for "old school" (at least from a California standpoint) Chardonnay, i.e., buttery, oaky, malolactic fermentation up the wazoo Chardonnay. That style is obviously no longer the trend, and it frustrates her whenever she tastes a new Chardonnay and gets nothing but bright, minerally, stone-fruit tasting notes ("If I wanted something that tastes like sauvignon blanc, I'd order sauvignon blanc!") My understanding is that the newer trend of lighter, more fruit-forward Chardonnay is actually more like the classic European Chardonnays and thus is actually more "old school" than the butter bombs that California produced back in the 1990's and early aughts, but that's not what she likes, so . . . Surly wine gurus, please recommend me some buttery, oaky Chardonnay, preferably $50 or less. I keep seeing Rombauer popping up when I do some online investigation, along with labels like Far Niente, Frank Family, and Hamilton Russell. Any others I need to be looking at?

Surly Jazz Thread
Came over to this board to post something about DeJohnette. One of the most significant jazz drummers/percussionists.

Texas vs. Mississippi State - 3:15pm on SEC Network
I didn't really interpret his comment as a dart at Arch. He was simply expressing gratitude that Caldwell is a capable backup. Arch didn't have a perfect day by any stretch, but he played winning football for the most part and was a helluva lot better than last week. Hope he recovers quickly.

Is there a better action movie than Raiders of the Lost Ark?
Such a great terrible movie. The Jamaican patois dialogue is awesome.

So we're going to bag on Caldwell for throwing a TD pass? Bold strategy there, Cotton.

Betcha Shipley is heaving a huge sigh of relief that Texas won.
