All Tech's coach talks about is Texas, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if they play their best game all year against us. What's funny is that it still won't be anywhere near enough to beat this team.
Anyone that was expecting another 49-0 was setting themselves up for disappointment. Anytime you beat a team 49-0, they will likely have you circled on their schedule the next year. Even though we should win if we play OU again, I wouldn't expect it to be a cake-walk at all. It's pretty obvious that they are a much improved team this year. They looked pretty even with us physically, and Gabriel is good enough to keep them in any game.
They really don't run him that often. They only ran him as much as they did against us because they knew they had to produce some kind of run game to win. Against the rest of their schedule, they can simply be pass-happy.
The games at TCU and Iowa State scare me the most. They both have given us trouble lately, and would love nothing more than to derail our season. I would normally also say Tech, but it is at home.
From what I've seen, Anthony is the only guy that is actually out. The rest of their key guys seem to be fine. Their lines have played with consistency through all 6 of their games, particularly their DL. Also, Gabriel has had a clean pocket the entire year.
Kansas doesn't have the guys in the trenches to hold up against OU. It looked like we were playing an FCS team when we played them. If Sark hadn't called off the dogs, we would have had around 800 yards of offense on them.
Gundy is 3-15 against OU and lost to their dumpster fire team last year. Not to mention that OSU is significantly worse this year. I think Kansas is the only team on their schedule that has a realistic chance to beat them.
I can understand this perspective. Our 2018 team struggled with Tulsa at home, but went on to beat a Kyler Murray-led OU team and play in the Big 12 Title Game. Sometimes a team does not always play up to their potential. It is also worth noting that SMU is not the pushover win that they were 10-20 years ago, either. They've poured some serious money into that program lately, and have upgraded their talent significantly.
Out-gaining an opponent isn't really that signifiant in today's game. USC was out-gained by Colorado. Is Colorado a better team than USC? The fact that OU was able to immediately put two long drives together after SMU cut the lead to 3 tells me that they were the better team.
