  1. But. Her. Emails....
  2. And here I thought you were one of our many Surly physicians.
  3. I wonder, if I do get into photography, will it reignite some of the excitement for common birds? With young kids, I just can't get away to find new stuff so much and I'm starting to exhaust my local patch potential. I like seeing the familiar things, but I'm also naturally goal-oriented, so it's fun to find "new" things, whether it's a new species at a particular spot or a new species to get a solid photo of.
  4. On the topic of Bald Eagles, I just stepped out to my very suburban driveway and looked up to see a large raptor that wasn't striking me as a vulture. Fortunately, my bins were in the center console and I got on the adult Bald Eagle, a first for my yard. It was immediately followed by a pair of Red-tailed Hawks and an American Kestrel. Not a bad few minutes for raptors at my doorstep! @Patricio Swayze , recs for a good starter camera for birds/wildlife? After doing this for a decade, I really need to upgrade from phone shots through binoculars.
  5. He lived adjacent to Reimer's Ranch Park, I believe.
  6. It doesn't take much. I remember a few days last October or November where any Lantana was covered in Monarchs. And a lot of people would stop and notice without even being alerted to it. I'm not always great at connecting with people directly, but nature, particularly the pockets of urban/suburban nature have always brought me closer to other people from all walks of life.
  7. Bringing people together over birds. Fantastic work. If we all took a few minutes out of our day to realize we are a part of nature and not apart from nature, we would all be much happier. Also, buy some bins, get iNat, Merlin or eBird and see what's in your neighborhood. You will be surprised how far you don't need to look to find things worth protecting.
  8. I am thrilled to have someone here to break up my boring words with photos. I know you venture to Brazil occasionally though. South America is the bird continent, so I'm expecting some Toucans or Cotingas at some point.
  9. A racist pedophile who loves to Tweet and happens to be POTUS is sundowning. Not that I would have been surprised by this at any point during either of his terms, but it's going to get even more fucked up, I would imagine.
  10. He is someone my parents really like. Probably because he is a black dude who can give them cover for their racism while being hard-core MAGA. I had to look him up after they said he was their preferred candidate and his entire page is about being the first Texas politician to support Trump's 2024 presidential bid.
  11. I'm a huge Olympics fan. I will certainly root for individual American athletes, but I don't know that I can root for the overall team at this point. Go Canada!
  12. You are nothing if not remarkably consistent and principled. A voice that I recognize before seeing the username or avatar.
  13. My wife is constantly annoyed by people who feel the need to comment on how much she chooses to make herself presentable before going to work. If she sat in a dark room by herself 95% of the time, she would still do the same thing, and I can assure you there is no pressure from me. Nothing wrong with looking better and doing your job better than those around you.
  14. My (not white) wife as I assure her that at least my parents are moderately upset about the Minneapolis shootings. "Oh they pretend to care now when white people are shot?" Cannot blame her
  15. Ok, my Dad comment was initially in jest but now I'm really starting to wonder. I'm pretty fucking pissed there weren't audible boos when they showed JD Vance's derpy fucking face. He should maybe hop on the Skeleton sled. Or downhill skiing. Maybe put him on the ice against Canada in hockey. He's clearly an athlete and really should be representing the country other than as a spectator.
  16. I would like anti-abortion folks to go spend some time in a children's hospital caring for kids who should have never been born. Children who, if they can experience anything, will only know pain before our medicine and machines can no longer keep them alive. But before they pass, they will suffer immensely while their family is emotionally, mentally and financially bankrupted because they were forced by the State into this position. God's plan!
  17. Dad?
  18. Snowpocalypse 2026 felt like it lasted forever, with the boys getting sick leading up to it and daycare being canceled for a couple of days following, but the joy kids find in even meager, icy snow is fun to be a part of.
