F1 - Apple
Yes in some cases they "re-skinned" actual F1 race cars from actual races and digitally overwrote the image with their fake team's livery. Also, at many tracks they also ran their fake team's real cars during breaks in the action between practice sessions or qualifying, to get scenes with their cars and drivers on the actual tracks in real time. And then a couple of times, they actually pulled up their fake team's real cars to the back of the grid at the start of an actual F1 race, to get some establishing shots and some footage of their cars taking off at the same time as the other real, actual F1 cars. In those cases their fake cars peeled off at some point during the first lap, so as not to interfere with the actual racecars running the real race. If you noticed, the Apex team was almost always starting in the final two places on the grid. That's because they wanted them to be filmed on the grid in real life without interfering, but it also worked for the plot of the movie because, in fact, their cars were supposed to be quite crappy until their upgrades arrived late in the season, and they would have been qualifying poorly, anyway. Anyway, completely agree they did some creative and innovative things with both sound and cameras, and they should be nominated for a lot of awards.

Yup. Pretty much. But it's a good thing that they're over-confident. Gonna make the tears even more delicious.

2025 Thread of the Rains
Yeah various sources keep saying it's the first time Lake Buch has been "full" since 2005 which isn't correct. This is the first time it hit 1020 but that's because 1018 was considered full in 2019. Anyway, glad to see someone bother to report it correctly. Well done, KXAN.

Mortal Kombat II
I think I saw the first one but I have zero recollection of it. Huh. That said, I'll see anything with Karl Urban in it, so I'm in. (and by first one I mean first rebooted one. I definitely saw the original in 1995 with Christopher Lambert and Bridgette Wilson. How could I forget... )

I think Bohls was also including the $20.5M from the House settlement as well. Which would be silly because anyone that wants to can pay that, and many schools will.

Maybe we'll get a scene of them all drinking margaritas at the Chelsea Street Pub in what's left of the Starcourt Mall!

Oh sure, the statute is rescinded. But now come the court cases. They're already happening. There will be more.

Yeah it's up to the NFL to protect its draft process, if they deem it necessary. It's certainly not the job of college football to do so.

This is one way to look at it. But another is that, just like scholarships, revenue paid directly to athletes is another manner to influence and affect educational opportunity offered to women vs. men. And if more money is being paid to men, or men's sports, then you're right back in the middle of a Title IX issue. None of them are employees, they're still considered students, so Title IX implications could still be in effect. I expect plenty of Title IX cases to be filed, and so I suppose the courts will have their say in the matter.

2025 Thread of the Rains
All floodgate operations along the Highland Lakes have ceased as of 1:04 PM today. There are still some relatively strong flows into Buchanan and so consequently the level there has now risen to just above 1020. And inflows to Lake Travis have slowed and the increases are leveling off, current level is 673.29 and climbing slowly now. We'll probably see some residual runoff continue into Lake Travis over the next few days, increasing lake levels by inches rather than feet at a time, but without any further rain events in the immediate future, the effects of this most recent rain event are effectively over.

Miller "Genuine Draft" and Michelob "Golden Draft" and Coors "Extra Gold" in the 80s, even before all that.

Beer 2025: Merry Christmas Everyone, Including the Haters and Losers
Heh, it was a fad for a while in the 90s. Either just before, or just after, all of the "dry" beers that the macros tried to market. And then let's not forget the "clear" craze!

It'll be 3.5 years since the end of season 4, so I suspect folks will be ok with waiting another few weeks between the first and last episodes of season 5.
