  1. They took jobs at Red Duke elementary a few years ago in preparation. Jordy LaFell is also a very good tennis player so that will likely be a part of the calculus - I know there’s been a lot of these brother/sister recruitments in the past. They’ve been tripping together to Ohio State and Missouri thus far
  2. Hell I don’t know. During this time, any coach worth a damn should have been at Lamar early and often anyway. If memory serves, Matt Melton was right there when he said it, and I think he co-signed it. I see Matt in a few hours and I’ll ask him if he remembers hearing any of this and can clarify.
  3. https://www.on3.com/rivals/jacoby-thomas-281460/ I don't know this kid, but he is also a freshman at Shadow Creek that came over from Brazosport I believe. Kid is a monster and another top 50, or 4++++++++, or whatever they come up with to indicate P4 lock and probable high round draft pick.
  4. It's in Pearland, but Alvin ISD. Everyone mentioned actually lives in Sienna but the moms of LaFell and Addai have worked in Alvin ISD the last couple years which allows the boys to attend Creek. Adrian Jr. and the Williams boys are/will be at Ridge Point. Shadow Creek's OC and recruiting coordinator Rene Glapion played with LaFell in high school and the head coach was on the staff at Lamar during that same time, so made sense for the family.
  5. Yep, his son Aaron is a really solid 2027 LB who will be a borderline Texas prospect. John Jr. is a 2029 DL who will likely be a National top 30 kinda guy along with BJ and Jaylen. He's got two younger than them who will bite when it's their time also. Big John says that without him Texas never gets Orakpo - apparently they were after John heavy and just kinda happened upon Orakpo.
  6. Sienna specifically is a neighborhood where upwardly mobile (couldn’t think of a better adjective) Black folk feel comfortable. Of course, all ethnicity of people live in the neighborhood, but there’s lots of us. Felt kinda cringey to type, but that’s how. All of those guys mentioned also have 8 or 9 year old sons who have played together for four years now. In those four years they’ve allowed ~100 points or so and lost one game.
  7. It’s that Adrian. He’s had a tough few years, but he’s our friend and we love him lmao. Jr is an 8th grader, and an amazing kid. Being totally objective, they’re all good kids and tremendous athletes. On that note, there’s another Sooner (John Williams) with kids in this group who will be considering Texas. Chykie has been hammering the UT angle at all of them for a while now, so just wanna give him his credit now if this one shakes out for the good guys.
  8. I’m biased as hell, but this kid is quite possibly the best HS athlete in America right now, irrespective of class. My first post on this site, I think BJ was maybe headed to 8th grade - I said then that Texas will have every opportunity, and they do. He, Adrian Jr. and Jaylen Addai are all in play for Texas in the classes between 28-30 and all three sets of parents are wide open to the thought of Texas. Crazy enough, BJ and Jaylen have more of an affinity for LSU than either of their fathers. The decision for both will be well thought out and based solely on the opportunity for development. The only concern around BJ is whether he’ll choose basketball full-time, which is something Mom and Dad would be gruntled about.
  9. I like his game a ton. Coming into the season I figured he'd be the first LB off the board. This was his least impressive season to me though. He had some really good games in the middle of the season, but didn't always seem to be in the best condition. The expectations were admittedly out of this world, but he underperformed a bit imo.
  10. Respectfully, I don’t know any of these MF’s. But way to go to those guys. Or we’ll get em next year - whichever is applicable.
  11. "You gotta rob to get rich in the Reagan era" - Nino Brown Seemed apropos given the grand larceny of errbody
  12. Texas ain’t bullshittin. I never got on here to vocalize gnashing of teeth, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to thinking Sark and Co. had no plan around OL recruiting. Lots of moving parts, but Texas seems to be doing as well as anyone navigating this shit. They’ve either planned very well or are extraordinarily agile. Possibly both. Impressive work.
  13. The thing is, even if the "scholarship limits" were 105 and funding them and NIL was no issue - only about 65 players really matter. How many players even travel? Many moons ago, that number was 75, and the last 10-15 or so to make the travel roster barely rep in practice and never sniff the field in the game. Also, I get the talk about depth and the desire to run out fresh guys (especially at the DT positions), but my very unpopular opinion is that I don't love subbing a real dude just for the sake of rotation or to make sure my second string guy feels good about snaps. I hate seeing Colin Simmons (insert name of any other DUDE) arbitrarily not on the field if he doesn't need a breather. I see this is starting to turn into a personal rant on substitution patterns, so I'll STFU
  14. David and his brother Abe are Texas grads, and while he's undoubtedly going after top dollar, he doesn't hide his affinity for Texas and has also helped get kids home. The Atkinson recruitment this cycle is a good example - David's frat brothers during his time on campus included Earl, Wells, Keenan, Marquise, J Hills. Atkinson's dad is an active member of that same fraternity, was introduced to Hills (via Dawit), which led to training with Hills and DJ. I'd expect he will only be involved in "five star" type recruitments, but the kids he represents will hear about Texas for sure.
  15. Great family. I think Jr. is overseas hooping? I’m sure they’d be happy to have Juice back close to home. May get back some of what was lost when Gbenda left. 3rd/4th and 1 is a lot more tricky with two backers that can fit the A gap. * edited as I just saw upthread that Jr. is playing for the Warriors. Wow!
  16. I still haven't fully recovered from the letdown of the last Tyler Johnson that played OT.
  17. I'm a guy that roots for the players and greatly appreciates the change in life trajectory that college football can provide for folks. My family has been direct beneficiaries of this. As such, the portal was a welcome addition to college football for me - just an opportunity to get to know more of these kids, and for them to have more opportunities for betterment. However, I think this year and the way the portal is being handled will be a tipping point. In the agents' and kids' rush to get paid, I think they've forgotten just how ruthless a free market economy can be. Some of these kids have fucked themselves massively. Not just the guys who are going to have to drop down a tier in competition or prestige, but the thousand or so (at least) young men who won't be playing football next year, and likely won't be in school. In fairness, this has been the case each year of the portal, I just haven't seen it to this degree. Hope Texas uncovers some linemen, and hope some of these kids stop listening to these agents (and vice versa). Fuck refreshing this thread until at least tomorrow.
  18. This may be my least favorite portal defection to date. I admittedly half-watched the Citrus Bowl, but one of the plays that gave me promise (other than the TD to Lockett and Clark/Arch's play) was Barnes closing on Underwood for either a sack or very short gain. Can't remember the quarter or situation with any specificity, but the kid closed like 20 yards of distance with a perfect angle in < 2 seconds. Got there and made the tackle efficiently. Made an extraordinary play look mundane. Maybe that play was an anomaly and not what the coaches see from him in practice. Fuck, I don't know fuckall. Whatever, man.
  19. Note to self: Right around the time of year when people who’ve not been to the gym in ages feel the need to come in and fuck it up for us regulars… the EXACT same thing happens to the Surly recruiting board. Auld Lang Syne
  20. I'm not sure who's more explosive, but they are both plenty swift and have good long speed as well as small area quickness. To be clear, anyone on a football field (NFL or otherwise) who can run a legit 10.5 100 meter is one of the fastest people on said field. Either of the two would immediately become the back we are missing who has true home run capability. I'd be happy however this one shook out if it is indeed a choice to be made.
  21. Really thought Texas would take a run at Tez. Coach Jackson is a strong recruiter, but I think Hankton is on another level. OSU got a good one. Again 🤦🏿‍♂️
  22. Texas didn’t even get a shout out or uniform pic 😂😂😂. Well fuck you very much, Mr. Niblack and good luck with the whole draft thing
  23. Damn. That's...irresponsible.
  24. I don’t know shit about the morale/vibes part - I do know for sure that he’s an ace recruiter and that Tiger football alumni want him around the program. For whatever that’s worth. I don’t know the extent that any position coach has influence on scheme in Sark’s offense (I get the feeling he doesn't like anyone calling his baby ugly), but one of either Wilson or Hankton would certainly be helpful recruiting Louisiana and N.O specifically.
