Watching the Ocho (August 7 only)
I wondered the same thing when I saw that it was on the 7th this year (In the past they've always done it on 8/8) and figured maybe there were bigger events happening on 8/8 this year than in the past... but I have no idea what they might be if that's the case. I love it when they do The Ocho.

Duck bowling- I saw that in a bar in Columbus, OH last month. I hope the mechanical bull is super close to the lanes so you can add a bit of extra challenge while releasing the ball.

Ah, so they checked their privilege- got it, thanks.- Official 2018 bitch about family/holiday drama thread
You have a 3-month old, that's more than a reasonable out. Tell them you'll catch them next time and don't spend a second giving a shit about their feelings on the matter.- Austin dreams
You're as obtuse / trigger-happy as Lobo. It's a true statement. I never said it was a deal breaker or a reason not to move to Austin, just that it's a noticeable shortcoming compared to his current situation- coming from someone who made the same move he's considering. Get over yourself.- Austin dreams
Calm down Cruiser/Lobo. I mentioned it to dago simply because he enjoys to travel a bit and it's an aspect of living here that's more of a pain in the ass compared to where he is now, nothing more- not sure how/why you lost your mind over it like that. As for your airline loyalty rant, in all my years here I haven't been loyal to any airline because there's no point in it when you have to fly out of Austin.- Converting old video tapes to digital
Precision Camera on W Anderson offers conversions for a decent variety of formats.- Austin dreams
For doing anything in my neighborhood and downtown you're better off just walking/biking on weekends that aren't December-February. I often walk or bike the Town Lake trail from my place to the office... it saves a lot of time and the scenery is great.- Austin dreams
I live in Barton Hills and work downtown, so generally in that vicinity- I'm talking about the gas stations on S. Lamar, Lake Austin Blvd., and Lamar north to ~35th.- Austin dreams
Yep, it has been that way for quite a while. Like imamac said, nobody ever really mentions that aspect in these threads.- Austin dreams
Fucking this- spot on- JFC just trying to run the simplest errand or grab breakfast can turn into a 3-hour shit show with how crowded everything is... lines at the gas stations are a fairly common thing now (fortunately I only go once a month or so)... they should start stationing bands at the gas stations now.- Austin dreams
I'd also seriously consider the San Antonio-ish areas people have recommended. SA is a lot of fun these days, it's very underrated. Re: Austin air travel- those extra travel options are in their very early days- it still generally sucks. That said, I still have a shit ton of miles w/United I've never used because they're worthless living here.- Austin dreams
You like to travel, correct? Keep in kind that for what you're used to living in Houston, air travel out of Austin fucking blows comparatively. Nowhere near as many direct flights, flights are noticeably more expensive, and it takes a lot fucking longer to get to your destination (connections). Quality restaurant options are a beating here too comparatively. It's all good if you realize/acknowledge you're giving up a lot of world class options to live in a place you find more aesthetically pleasing, but you'll always notice it. Also, it takes a long time to get accustomed to the lack of diversity here. Actually, it never feels normal- you'll always notice the deficiency after living in Houston.- Gringo Tacos
I went to Tyson's quite a bit 2014-2017 when I worked north-ish. The tacos were very good (2nd the crispy duck) and free beer on Fridays was always nice. You never knew what the keg would be- sometimes craft, sometimes Lone Star, etc. but always free.- Solve the Rittle
