I'm surprised to see hate for Reality Bites. As someone born directly in the middle of the Gen X era and who saw it in the theater during college it really hit home with me. I enjoyed the hell out of it.
I had an unexpectedly interesting experience with it when they released the 10-year anniversary edition of it with Writer's commentary. As a kid in college watching it I thought Ben Stiller's character was a huge douchebag. Watching it 10-11 years later on Netflix (before they offered streaming) I got the DVD that included the Writer's commentary special edition. Watching it again at that age, ~8 years post-graduation from college, things were reversed- the recent grads seemed like the douchebags and I related to Ben Stiller's character way more.
The chick who wrote it, on the commentary track, said she experienced the exact same thing upon rewatch all those years later after writing it.
Good times- that movie will always occupy a special place in my heart for a certain moment in time/culture.
Props to all who have contributed to this thread. I had my first one yesterday and reading the posts in this thread was super helpful in the week or so leading up to it.
As others have said, the procedure itself is a breeze and Propofol is impressive. After they told me they were about to start the Propofol I recall hearing 5 or so beeps from whichever machine was beeping and then I woke up in the recovery room 20-30 minutes later feeling completely fine.
The prep process wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting- my doc prescribed Suprep and mixing it with almost frozen water the taste was 99% masked. The volume wasn't bad either. If I had to do it again that way I'd be fine with it, but next time I might go for the pills others have mentioned (by the time I saw that was an option I'd already picked up the Suprep kit).
I hit Taco Deli for lunch afterward and then took a long nap at home. The staff where I went were all excellent- very friendly, helpful, easygoing, and professional (Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital). I highly recommend them if they're convenient to you.
That still crosses my mind occasionally when I'm playing that stretch of the Zilker course. How long ago was it that you yelled that at us from your car- 2007?
Well played, sir. 👏👏👏
My symptoms mostly felt like allergies plus a low fever for ~24 hours (100.5-101). It was the 2-3 days of a super light but persistent cough that got me to take a test out of curiosity (and because I had some at home).
There were no shits, diarrhea, or other GI symptoms involved. Overall my symptoms lasted 5 days.
I absolutely loved it (binged it 9 months ago on HBO Max- maybe we discussed it on that thread?). Agreed, hopefully more exposure will help it get picked up for another season.
I don't go to casinos much anymore but was joining some friends in Lake Charles last month for a golf & gambling weekend at the Horseshoe so ahead of that I ended up watching that Blackjack Adventure documentary.
It was a fun and educational watch- I'd kinda always wondered about how casinos handled card counters and learning that there's a whole cottage industry for identifying and tracking them was new to me.
I've been going to Fantastic Fest for the last ~10 years and it is f'ing awesome. I'm curious to see if anything changes at all with this. I'm hoping they'll keep it awesome.
It is a great time of year in Austin- Fantastic Fest ends and then a week later is always ACL Weekend 1.
Last night's Blues on the Green lineup was darn good. Golden Dawn Arkestra (headliner), Nane (2nd band), and Grace Sorensen (opener).
I thought Nane was the best of them with GDA a close second. What I heard of Grace Sorensen (her last 2 songs or so) sounded good as well but I can't speak to her whole set.
The late afternoon showers made for some nice weather at Zilker.
Tonights lineup is Riders Against the Storm, Carmelo Haze, and The Point. The forecast is looking good again.
My napping experience is that they make me feel more tired, make it impossible to fall asleep at bedtime, or i wake up with a headache. Not worth it.
Apparently I drew the short straw on nap genetics.
I turned it on for 10 minutes and it was just some asshole relentlessly berating his camera guy. Had no interest in viewing that kind of negativity so changed the channel and never went back.
We lost power for 2 weeks after hurricane Alicia (August 1983 in Houston). The other side of our street had power so most houses had extension cords running across the street to borrow power from neighbors until things were back up.
