Korean movies
I didn't see Concrete Utopia mentioned yet, or maybe it was discussed in another thread somewhere. I saw it at a film festival back in 2023, so hopefully it is streaming somewhere. It's great- I recommend it. "When an earthquake reduces almost all of Seoul to smoking ruins, miraculously one building remains standing. Surrounded by destruction, the survivors try to restore order but as outsiders begin to seek refuge at Hwang Gung Apartments, the residents soon realise that the real disaster is yet to come. South Korea's entry for the 2024 Oscar for Best International Feature."

I caught the cancer
I read the book last month and afterward watched the movie for the first time. Good stuff. Thanks for keeping us updated, I appreciate the updates and am always hoping for the best for you. I suspect there are many others who feel the same way but haven't posted Hang in there buddy, and keep fighting!

Why Can't I Quit You, Austin?
I made it as well. Awesome night for it- the weather ended up being great, excellent music, great people watching, and just fun all around.

Radioactive Wasps
I've seen the meek. They have a good time.

Disc Golf
With the cool weather the last 2 mornings some friends and I played 36 holes this weekend.... Live Oak (Saturday) and Circle C (Sunday). Great fucking time... felt like weekend staycation mode 😀 ! Happy to report that both courses are in great shape. I hadn't thrown Circle C in ~10 years.

2025 Thread of the Rains
Heavy rain for almost an hour in the Barton Hills / Zilker area (ended ~20min ago).

Netflix Recommendations
The Terror was great. There's a dedicated thread for it here IIRC, from a few years ago so you might have to dig but it has a decent amount of discussion from back when the first season aired.

I've been eligible for 30+ years but have only been summoned 2 times... and have never had to show up. Both times the letters said to call ahead of time- at a very specific time the morning of (Houston / Ft. Bend) or the day before (Austin/Travis). Both times they said I didn't need to show up.- Disc Golf
I played the Austin Beerworks course this morning (now enjoying beers in the tap room). Such a fun course but definitely challenging. I didn't take many photos, but here's one from the tee pad on 4.- Disc Golf

Hopefully your son lives and you can just YOLO the rest of your days after that.- Horrible way to die new stories
Reminds me of an incident in Lockhart back in 2016 https://www.npr.org/2016/07/31/488122733/hot-air-balloon-crash-leaves-at-least-16-dead-in-central-texas- Disc Golf
I played the course in Alpine this morning. They've improved the hell out of it since last time I played it (3yrs ago). It's a full 18 now and a lot of fun. Props to the folks who have been taking care of it, they're doing great work.- No Cuntry for Young Men
My comment was not that the genre didn't already exist. ISWYDT- I'm in the other thread too- and no, not at all like Modest Mouse... it was super soft emo garbage.- No Cuntry for Young Men
- No Cuntry for Young Men
^ I suspect mostly this. Otherwise, I'm right in the middle of Gen X and at some point around 2008 when I hung around with the younger "Millennial" folk the thing that stood out to me the most was how all of their favorite music was whiny emo pussy bitchass garbage. No idea what that was all about but it was definitely disturbing and a whole lot of wtf.- Netflix Recommendations

Thank you to folks who mentioned Tires. It isn't something I would've watched otherwise (and probably wouldn't have even heard of or recognized). I ended up watching both seasons over 24 hours- really enjoyed it.- Concerts you are attending
I've seen a lot of bands there over the years and they're typically very good with a good crowd. I've mostly stopped going while the beer garden has been shut down for remodeling (or whatever they're doing). The experience you described is drastically different from what I've experienced there over the last few years. Hopefully it gets back to normal after they reopen things.- Have you ever been in a movie?
I just watched it to see if I could spot you- yep! That's awesome.- Houston Restaurants You Miss The Most
Ta Hua, holy shit that brings back some memories 😀. I left Houston 20 years ago but still occasionally miss Mama's Cafe. Huevos Hofbrau on a hungover weekend morning was a fairly regular stop back in the day.- Big, lumbering, epic songs
